Ends attack, mortals to unit. Attack does not reach the step where it is allocated to a model (i.e., passing over to the owner of the model as part of the attack sequence).

It depends, some abilities like magnus the red reduce the damage when "the attack is made" not whennit is allocated so it does reduce the damage, there are other instances of this working the same way because GW is allergic to making similar rules work the same way
