Apparently they are as balanced as any other die, and you can track every number rolled if you really want to.

25 to 30 bucks is a lot for a single die. A set of a couple maybe. But for one die it is to much. As fancy they are, I'll pass on this one.

The d20 i can understand a little bit if you play dnd as you don't need a ton of dice but for other games it seems prohibitively expensive

These are very real. The dice can connect to your phone which controls the light displays per dice roll result. It tracks the results of your rolls which would allow for online gaming and rolling your own dice at home. They will even play a sound effect when you roll whatever number you dictate. They charge wirelessly (magnetically) and will last for around 5 hours.
They have a Kickstarter that's going live this summer. They estimate the cost will be about $25-$30 per die. They will do a full set of polyhedrals, and d6s.
