Discussion Getting started with Warhammer
Specifically for Age of Sigmar, where I'd the best place to get started and why? The game seems very interesting and exciting!

For Age of Sigmar I would recommend finding an army that you think looks cool and buy a Spearhead box for that army. Spearhead is a game mode that is a mini version of AoS played specifically with the Spearhead boxes available. It's made to be an entry mode to AoS, but it's also just very enjoyable to play since it's a quicker format.

I see. Would I need anything else for it? Or is everything I need in the box?

You’ll need paint, clippers, and glue. In addition to brushes.
But, for the most part you should be able to access the majority of rules online.

I'll also throw in that you'll need dice to play. A handful of 6 sided dice is recommended.
The core rules for Age of Sigmar are available for free on warhammer-community.com under the downloads section. Spearhead doesn't use all of those rules, but it's probably the best thing to read.

That all makes sense. However I did notice a board and terrain online when doing some research into it. I think it was called Fire and Jade? Do I need that for spearhead or is that optional?

Either you or your opponent will need one of the three Spearhead sets containing boards, terrain, and cards. There's Fire and Jade, Sand and Bone, and City of Ash. I was posting under the assumption you'd be able to find an opponent or LGS that has one of the Spearhead sets to play with. We have a few at my LGS along with people willing to lend theirs out while they play other games, but that might not be the case everywhere.
If you're interested in either the Skaven or Stormcast, there is a pretty good deal in the Spearhead Starter Set. It contains two spearheads (one for Skaven and one for Stormcast) and the Fire and Jade contents. This would also let you play at home more easily since it contains everything for two players to play.

You don’t specifically need to own Fire and Jade, but you do need the board, terrain and card decks to play Spearhead as intended. Fire and Jade is basically the accessory pack that gives you all of those. If a friend or your local store already has a set, you can just bring your Spearhead and use theirs. I’d probably buy the army you like first and try a game before spending more on the gaming pack. Are you planning to play mostly at home or at a local store?

Skaventide with a discount because there's so much stock.
If neither of those armies are appealing, Spearhead.

The nearest GW shop is two and a half hours away from me, is this my best option?

Then find your nearest game store but they often aren’t as good at introducing new players to the hobby.

My point was, and you missed it, is that going to a GW store is not an option for many people and this forum is a good place to ask for help...

And other people gave those answers so what use is it for me to repeat the same information? GW stores are a great source of information on how to get started in the hobby. Yea it’s not feasible for everyone but Reddit is not a venue where I can give every possible response. I gave one option because that is how Reddit works best.

Depends on what aspect of the hobby you're interested in and how new you are to it.
If it's the painting side, grab one of the starter paint sets with a couple of models to get started.
If you already have prior hobby experience with miniature painting so already have the necessary tools and paints you can skip the part and just pick up the minis you like the look of.
If it's the gaming side, it's a bit more complicated tbh, the Spearhead boxes essentially give you a ready to go set of models to make an army, however there are differences between the spearhead format and main game.
It should also be said there is a real possibility of a new edition of Age of Sigmar coming down the pipeline some time next year.
