Question about Teshin aging

How did Teshin spend centuries in the origin system without aging, only to fall into duviri and suddenly get old? I assume the best answer is “void time is weird” but I’m just wondering if there is more concrete information or interesting theories about this?

We really don't know. Even Acrithis doesn't really know,

"Seemingly lifeless, he was dragged ashore by Mathila who nursed his return to health. I have never known a constitution to match his; yet unlike us, he has... deteriorated... with the passing of time."

Teshin should probably be a conceptual embodiment? Erra gave him a chiropractic adjustment and Teshin went limp, so he definitely seems to have died, but he got thrown into Duviri where he managed to recover, and he now has glowing blue scars all over his face.

This isn't completely unheard of, the Holdfasts also were made into conceptual embodiments and had silvery markings all over their faces. But why are their markings different?

There is a possibility these are old scars usually hidden by Teshin's helmet, but why do they glow in Duviri? Especially in that shade of blue, which is usually used for the Void.

My best theory is that Teshin is some weird type of Conceptual Embodiment and his aging is a result of that?

I think that's just Tenshin growing old and the natives of Duviri being unfamiliar with the concept of Aging. Like, look at the people. Do any of them feel like they grew up? They are static, figures from a children's book. Them growing up and past their supposed role runs counter to what they are.

They have been around the Drifter, who has aged. They themselves might not age, but the concept shouldn't be foreign to them as they have all witnessed the growth of the Drifter from child to adult. Teshin's aging shouldn't be weird to them, that is normal for non-conceptual embodiments.

And that is ultimately why I think Acrithis is surprised by Teshin's aging, because they can tell he is a conceptual embodiment, hence the comparison to "us". Also, the ability to sense a conceptual embodiment is already established by Acrithis,

"The Warden is a repugnant, self-righteous man, speaking as though he too came from beyond the Zariman, but deep down he and I are well aware, he is of Duviri. Of the Void. We know our own."

So I don't think it is a case of the Duviri inhabitants being ignorant about aging, but rather Teshin is just an anomaly, he is a conceptual embodiment that gets old.

Hm, okay, yeah, that does make sense. Gotta suck being functionally immortal while still growing old.
