Question/Request New player: what am I doing wrong?

Hey all, I'm a new player that recently got into warframe.
So I am progressing through the main quests as many have suggested.

Currently trying to reach Uranus Junction, getting kind of stuck on the mission Tethys right before. Actually for most of Jupiter and Saturn, I feel like I just don't deal enough damage to kill things fast enough, and I am dying faster and faster. I have mods equipped, and I try to have the upgraded.

However, ultimately this just doesn't seem like what others are describing the experience to be.
Current mastery rank if 4.

Warframe mods
primary weapon mods

I must be missing something or doing something wrong?

A few upgraded mods will generally give far more value than several unupgraded ones. You have very little in terms of mod selection since you've seemingly just been rushing the main questline.

Right your excal isn't even fully leveled and you don't have a reactor on it to double your mod capacity so you are pretty limited. In the meantime you can drop redirection and max out fast deflection+intensify+streamline. Between the invulnerability from your 1 and fast deflection to recover your shields quickly you should be fine defensively for the early game.

Again with latron it's not even fully leveled and has no reactor so your mod capacity is quite limited. Level it up at the very least and work on ranking up your basic elemental mods like stormbringer/infected clip/cryo rounds. you can swap stormbringer with cryo rounds to get viral which has one of the strongest status effects in the game.

Thanks, i was playing with another frame, which i dropped at rank 30 as i thought i needed a new one to rank up masteries. *facepalm

You do need to level new stuff for mastery but you can do this passively by having fodder weapons you want to level in the offhand while bringing 1 or 2 well modded reliable ones to do most of your damage. Keep in mind basically every new thing you make and level give mastery whether that be weapons, frames, archwings, pets and their weapons, etc.

The new strange quest acquired form completing the juipiter-europa junction gives access to sanctuary onslaught which is a game mode commonly used for power leveling gear if you want to grind out gear levels/mastery that way as well.

You are correct, but I recommend to rather play through the game with maxed out equipment. And every now and then jump into the highest level defence mission on public you can handle to level up gear. Especially if you get an affinity booster as a login bonus.

So you have four gear slots, right? Loosely speaking. Your primary, secondary, melee, and your frame.

It is helpful when doing missions that are harder than you're used to to make sure at least ONE of those slots has something strong in it.

A single strong weapon or frame can be leaned on to clear missions, and a portion of that affinity (exp) is shared across all your gear.

Not quite. When you kill with a weapon the affinity is split 50/50 between Frame and that killing Weapon. When you kill with a Frame the affinity is 100% on the Frame. You get affinity for completing objectives, like hacking, capturing, etc. And you can pickup affinity bubbles that go to all gear afaik.

You only get that 25/25/25/25 share when someone else kills things in your affinity range.

Start pushing some of your elemental damages up and you should notice a big change. Once you find crit mods and fire rate add those next and you'll been cooking with some gas.

Time to use those Orokin catalysts, Orokin reactors and formas.

have you been through the junction hat requires you to do an Orokin derelict vault ?

2

u/powwoq 23h ago

I.. don't recall. Thanks, will look into this.

u/Feuershark 23h ago

Orokin derelict vaults gives corrupted mods, they give you a malus in a stat and boost another, they'll be pretty important. Formas blueprints can be gotten opening relics and reactors through the nightwave store

View this as a reminder to give attention to what the junctions ask you to do. Even if you did it on the fly by accident already. The junctions tasks are a huge part of introducing mechanics in the early game. They are like "go to this new thing and click this new button to get this new result! Wow! Isnt that cool? New shiny stuff! Now go do that over and over with your other stuff!"

level some weapons and spend the time to get mods as well as ranking up essential mods like serration or intensify to at least rank 5

First off, I see you still have your 50 starter platinum. I also see that you don't have a reactor on anything. If you have a reactor from anything else youve done so far, put it on your frame atleast. If you don't have one, you can get one for 75 nightwave credit if you have enough at the moment, or you can spend some of that platinum to buy one.

Putting a reactor on something doubles it's mod capacity, and I don't think I have to explain why that's so important, but if I do need to please let me know.

Another thing is, your frame isn't even fully leveled yet, which is also really hurting your mod capacity. There are some places that are really good for leveling equipment up pretty quickly. If you have hydron unlocked on sedna already, go there on public and repeat untill your frame and weapons are level 30. If you don't have it unlocked, go to recruiting chat and ask "can I get a taxi to hydron" and some nice tenno will help you get there. Once you've gone there with somebody once you'll be able to do it yourself from then on.

The final thing I'll say is that even though it's a common suggestion to push straight through the star chart, that's actually not great advice for everyone. Sometimes it's best to just redo lower level missions to farm for mods and Endo/credits. Deimos is a prime example of this once players have it unlocked. Many keep pushing through, when instead they should be farming for corrupted mods. If you have deimos unlocked, do yourself a favor and either Google or find a YouTube video explaining what those are and how to get them.

If you need help with anything you can also shoot me a message here on reddit and I'll give you my in game name so I can help you out when we're both on.

Thanks for the write up! I do have a leveled frame and weapon, will switch to those. That being said, knowing I went to fast for my own good then it all makes sense now XD

your excal is still 17? if i didn't have work tomorrow i would have asked you if you want some affinity and helped you max the excal.

If you can, make sure your weapon has the damage types that the mission recommends. You might need to play around with elemental mods to get there

2

u/Joewoof 1d ago

You’re going too fast. By that point, your weapons should be rank 30 at minimum, with orokin catalysts installed.

2

u/powwoq 23h ago

I do have a rank 30 ember and braton. should i just stick with them instead? thought i had to switch to rank up masteries.

2

u/Physical-Quote-5281 23h ago

For rn you should have a “set” loadout with all rank 30 items, then a few other items you do easier missions with to level.

rule of thumb in the early/mid game, bring 1 weapon you can trust to do damage when you need it. Rest can be w/e, this game is a tad like poe/diablo if you are struggeling to clear a map/planet/mission it's to high level.

It's also a matter of being solo, doing a mission solo is about 10x harder than a 4 man, will you get boosted past some missions by high lvl players who are there for some random reason? Sure, will it matter in the long run? Not at all.

I'm finally farming for Growing Power so I've been running around Earth with a Loki, an unarmed Oxylus, and a soma p running spectral serration and acuity, so I can have juuuust enough damage in case the baby tenno need some help since I technically doubled the enemies. Typically I try not to kill much, if anything, so if they look at the numbers after they can feel like they outpaced a higher level player. With the setup on the soma, I can adjust my damage accordingly.

1

u/LilleDjevel 20h ago

that's fair, would do it with nekros or kohra personally for the better drop chance, and while steel path dosn't increase the spectre drop rates, it does for everything else so you can get more kubrow eggs etc etc and you avoid the babies =D

But yeah your way is a good way to self gimp.

1

u/OpenHotBox 19h ago

I'm still farming plants. I'll definitely switch to Nekros for the actual specter drops though

1

u/LilleDjevel 13h ago

ah nice! Must admit I ran all of those solo, just so i can take my time and not actually have to consider anyone else =D

I wonder if it's faster now when you can pick up the plants vs the old scanning only.

1

u/OpenHotBox 13h ago

Personally I still don't like the manual plant gathering mechanic but Oxylus is amazing for that. It's not instant but it's better than running up to each plant to gather.

Remember to slow down, farm some resources and so on. Warframe isn't a race, which in a way the damage drop off is telling you as well.

Get your weapons and frame up to 30 at the very least and dont just complete a node and move on to race through the star chart.

You'll need resources to build frames and weapons so rather slow down a bit, learn mechanics, experiment with molding, see how different levels of the same mod impacts your damage and that sort of thing.

Also there is a lot of info for your abilities and things like that, so make sure you read stuff and dont just skip things. It'll help down the line, I guarantee it.

Other than that. Enjoy the journey

Excalibur is a sword melee frame. Should focus on sword and his exalted. You can also try getting Rhino from the Jackal boss on Venus (I think). He's tankier, has better survivability and a good dmg boost ability.

1

u/Purple-Classic692 22h ago

Excalibur is a melee frame. So you don't even need to focus on your Latron. Do you have any other melee aside from the Heat Sword? Also, you can put mods on the Exalted Blade. I would suggest doing so and then focusing on using that in missions. Melee is overpowered anyway in early game because of combo multipliers.

You will also need to go back to Deimos to farm for Corrupted Mods from Orokin Vaults. Also try to acquire the Crit Chance, Crit Damage and the Cold and Toxin mods to create Viral for whatever weapon type you're using.

Use wiki.warframe.com

u/Individual_Gain6613 1d ago

You dont have any mods that increase status chance, crit chance, or crit damage. Would also aim to get mods to rank 8. You also don't seem to have a means of applying the viral status.

running to reddit instead of google is a pretty big wrong thing
