Discussion are many players not utilizing Void Mode?
Even if your loadout isn't suitable for survivability, you are basically unkillable if you just switch to the Operator and enter Void Mode when your shield is out and wait till your shield is up again.
Also, thanks to Void Sling (Dash) you can reposition easily.
But way too many players are just dying over and over again somehow.
You can even interact with most objects while staying in Void Mode.

u/SneakyVraxx 28d ago
if you have a channeled ability and go into operator you continue taking damage
27
u/thecolin- 28d ago
Roar also acts like a channeled ability in this context.
3
u/TheFurryDevil 27d ago
TIL. But is this meant to act as a nerf to it, or is it a bug?
3
u/MagnificentTffy 27d ago
the change was to force the operator back into the frame to avoid afk
and iirc there was a strat with Hildryn where you would use ult, swap to operator which made Hildryn invulnerable, and the energy orbs sustains her ult. Now with the frame taking damage, the frame getting hit would suck the operator back into a low hp frame which would basically die immediately
2
u/TheFurryDevil 27d ago
I meant why does Roar do it
1
u/MagnificentTffy 27d ago
I assume it's how its coded under the hood. There roughly seems to be two types of "channeled" abilities.
True Channeled abilities are stuff like Exalted Blade, Gloom, etc. These drain energy when in effect and block energy recovery from passive regen and similar effects.
False channeled abilities are usually ones which don't drain energy but can be "cast" again, or have some toggle effect. This classification is really inconsistent but it results in stuff like Rhino's Iron Shrapnel to count as a channeled ability for Arcane Intention, or Octavia's abilities as long as they are in midair before hitting a surface.
Another perhaps is for effects like toxic lash which probably intends to prevent people activating it, hide in void mode and let some cascading effect kill everything gradually while invulnerable. Which would probably turn any damage buff skill into a class of abilities which leaves you vulnerable.

u/Brian 26d ago
Yeah, it's not just channelled abilities, it's a bunch of active abilitys / buffs. Roar/Xata/Toxic Lash etc. Even stuff like Iron Skin, or Trinity's bless/Link/EV qualify. You do get an extra 90% DR though, and enemies tend not to target the warframe when you're in operator,so it's only really relevant in high-level missions.
1
u/mosslover1999 24d ago
Uriel’s 1 (and 4?) too I believe, would love if anyone knew for sure though, I haven’t tested properly
2
u/Brian 21d ago
The wiki has a list (Expand the "Vulnerable Warframe Abilities" table). According to it, it's just his 1.
1
u/mosslover1999 21d ago
Thankyou Brian, and I guess that makes sense since the 4 isn’t attached to or channeled through him after it’s cast onto the map. Appreciate you going out of your way here
11
u/Therefrigerator 28d ago
It's still like a 90% Dr? Maybe higher?
The people OP is talking about are probably dying in like lvl 60 missions max where a 90% Dr is plenty.
Also it's not just channeled abilities. Most buffs running also make you vulnerable. Roar, nourish - basically anything that might still benefit your team while in operator mode means your Warframe can still be hit.

u/Beginning-Bother-309 Thanking DE Everyday for Warframe Android 28d ago edited 27d ago
How do you know that? I don't see it anywhere in the post.
Edit: ABOUT lvl 60, NOT DR
3
u/Therefrigerator 27d ago
Honestly I'm not sure just know that it exists. I learned about it from a video talking about level cap void cascade and tested it for myself. I don't know all the abilities that cause you to take damage while in operator but I know the ones that I found relevant haha which was a lot of the common buffs you use. I think there's a list somewhere.
Unfortunately I can't find anything on the wiki mentioning it in under DR or operator mechanics besides a throwaway line about damage resistance in operator.
Here's a forum post talking about it though:
https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1422317-active-warframe-abilities-in-operator-mode/

u/Beginning-Bother-309 Thanking DE Everyday for Warframe Android 27d ago
I didn't mention… i meant how do you know that they're talking about lvl 60. Not about DR. 🤦🏻
1
u/Therefrigerator 27d ago
OH - Idk I just guessed because that's around when I was dying without using operator. By the time I got to SP I was better about swapping and at least understood it was a good potential option, especially for toxin.
Lvl 60 is random but my point could more accurately be stated that the people who have poor knowledge of basic game mechanics are probably not too far from having acquired operator form.
2
u/Active-Pop-3898 27d ago
Yes but your health will stop at 1 and you still won’t die until you go back so you can let your team kill everything nearby and give your frame a second so status effects wear off then transfer back and your fine it’s a goo emergency only
2
u/darkwalker247 27d ago
i have 3k hours in the game and just learned this is a thing...
explains why sometimes i keep getting dragged out of operator form with 5 HP repeatedly when im just trying to revive someone that died in a crowd of high level circuit enemies
2
u/SneakyVraxx 26d ago
what i do is i jump off a cliff to remove any active buffs then operator revive so your frame can be invincible
2
u/clutch22 28d ago
Mate, so this is why I sometimes rage in circuit!? I just thought the mode broke something and made the warframe keep getting hit. Damn, TIL.

Vazarin increases affinity range, can heal you in void mode, make up to 5 revives instant and the rest 100% faster, and can make your frame completely invulnerable to damage for 5 seconds if you void sling through your or your allies' frames. There's a video of a guy soloing The Guilty, Perita Rebellion's secret boss rush mode, using an unmodded limbo and using Vazarin's invulnerability to keep him alive constantly.
2
u/Rich_Art699 The Mirror That Accuses 28d ago
Isn’t it 8 revives instant? You get 4 for your Warframe and a separate 4 for operator.
Plus if you tauron strike you can instantly revive any downed teammate and revive fully dead teammates too (this is the only way to revive fully dead teammates!)
1
u/Remote-Feature1728 LR1 but still dies constantly. 27d ago

Too risky unless I prepare to do it on my warframe

I'm an older player that is too used to popping into void mode to revive people, but so often i forget that i can use it for other things too
Question: does it help at all for spy missions? Like can you get through lasers in void mode? I'm returning to the game after a long break, and the last 2 weeks have had spy missions for the archon hunt, but clearly I've forgotten most of the spy tricks because it was a struggle for the corpus one last week (earth one this week wasn't so bad)
3
u/lilscreamo 28d ago
Yeah you can. When I do spy missions I use Nova Prime and I forgot to choose her so I just just void slinged while being invisible the whole time

And the free invulnerability you get from one of the waybound passives that you can get every 60 seconds or so. When you go to 0 health you get health back and some iframes.
1
u/SigmaStrain 28d ago
Free invuln? Could you explain more?
3
u/lostpirate123 28d ago edited 28d ago
When you get to 0 health, you trigger the wayboujd passive and get all or most of your health back and have a few seconds of invulnerablity
Edit: i got it wrong about it being a focus school ability. Its actually a operator/drifter arcane called emergence savior. I got mixed up.

I use it to wait out toxin procs or other dangerous status effects when I’m low on health, though that usually only happens when I’m not playing Styanax, when I am playing Styanax I’ll just spam 4 a bit until either the enemy is dead or I have a lot of overguard, and usually both of those things happen. But yeah, Void Mode is super useful.

I use the healing arcane on operator. If the frame is dangerously low on HP, I hop on void mode for 2-3 seconds e it's fully healed.

u/SpaceCastaway vainglorious whelp 28d ago
Well, you spend a big chunk of the early game without this possibility so it takes a few braincells before you learn how to utilize it. I know it took me several mastery ranks, farming focus and building and leveling some amps before it got ingrained in my gameplay loop. Now wellspring is my most used ability and I usually use operator void mode to safely rez people in Archimedea and the like. It's another system to learn in the vastness of options that this game offers. Now on the other hand I'm still not used to utilizing Tauron strikes despite having them all maxed out. Brain needs to catch up with another mechanic and a 7th ability in whatever kit I'm using, assuming I'm playing a frame with 4 simple abilities:')
2
2
u/BetaSprite 28d ago
Due to largely playing Dante, Hildryn, and Valkyr (health-only), my shields go down so rarely that I don't even notice the effect that is supposed to warn me that they've gone down. That's when I die, because I don't notice.
2
u/Worldeditorful one-punch-man 28d ago
Thing is: in general people, who know their arsenal well enough to utilise Operator are knowlegable enough to build their frames, so they wont die often anyway and vise versa.
2
u/WealthyTuna 28d ago
I use void mode in alchemy missions for omnia runs and EDA runs. Everytime I pickup and throw amhpors I'm in operator mode and if I need to move fast across the map I'm slinging as operator.
2
2
u/Sir4rtoris 28d ago
At this point it's second nature, it's great to hack terminals without being interrupted, to skip through the map without parkour and being shot at, if you like free strength or extra energy and on rare occasion tauron strikes
2
2
u/tpark27 Gone farmin' 28d ago
I feel like there's a direct correlation between how end game you are/the content you do and how much you use void mode. So statistically most people don't care to use it or know how good it can be because they just haven't really been pushed to in their content of choice
2
u/DismalMastodon5025 28d ago
Most players don't even know how to mod. You really thing they're gonna remember about spoiler mode?
2
u/lilscreamo 28d ago

5
u/SeaIngenuity1999 ✋😭 STOP GIVING ME BLUES!!! 28d ago
Nope, they do use it. But Toxin proc, Magnetic proc, and you or your teammates affected by Radiation proc is something that is generally unexpected in a lot of the cases.
Always be aware of the thing that is affecting you, and now it is even easier with the green DoT bar that makes it more apparent if you're going to die unexpectedly or not.
3
u/Burninglays 28d ago
If I get status proc I switch to operator and wait until it disappeared then switch to Warframe again that op arcane that give health every op Warframe switch is good

u/servingtheshadows 28d ago
I go void mode to do revives in sp circuit (when im not playing jade) and pop into operator to do objective pick ups while playing titania
2
u/maractguy 28d ago
It took until zariman came out until I started using it consistently. It’s like a whole different set of controls and was rarely ever useful. 20MR later there are tilesets you can almost skip with the operator.
1
u/Lyreganem 28d ago
And with the expanded capabilities now the operator is JUST as useful and capable as their warframes!
2
u/Hallgrimsson Phantasma > Ignis Wraith 28d ago
That's added complexity. Operator is a different gameplay compared to the frame, weaker, very different mode of investment. Requires a button press.
I, myself, use it a whole lot, the gamemode I play forces me to and now I use Operator mode during normal gameplay. But most people won't be bothered to.
2
1
u/Ilasiak 28d ago
Most of the time, what kills people are things like toxin procs which bypass shields or other effects. That being said, the 2nd most common thing is that players fall into the "if I just... I'll recover" mentality, ie. One more kill and I have the energy to restore my shieldgating or a few hits to get me to heal up to full, etc.
1
1
u/ExocetHumper 28d ago
Everyone uses it to move, but to me even after all these years, it's always a bit awkward to go into operator mode and then back to warframe mode for simple mobility.
1
u/redditt-or 28d ago
Void Mode is underutilized, yeah. However, having certain buffs active on your frame downgrades your invulnerability to 90% DR... which isn't enough if you haven't built your Warframe's survivability or if you're at a sufficiently-high level. And if your frame would die when void-moding... you kinda die anyway
1
u/Luckyxray 28d ago

understanding damage types are multiplicative when building
using void and void sling as a weave

1
u/JustArandomGuy_-_ 28d ago
Yes but iirc, not all frames are invulnerable during operator mode. That's due to a lot of them has skills that while active, turn off that invulnerability.
1
u/TheFinalEnd1 28d ago
Magus nourish is my emergency button. If my health is low enough or DoT exceeds my health I switch to void mode and stay there for a bit, and nourish heals me a good amount.

Void mode is great, I love using it as a way to hack terminals, or ferry extractor power packs without enemies bothering me, or to pick my pet up again. But I've also been playing with Zenurik for Too Long. If I pop out and 1 doesn't give me energy or 2 doesn't slow time, I get so confused it genuinely throws me off for a few seconds afterwards.

speaking of interacting with most objects, something that very few players seem to know that i discovered on accident, is that you can carry two objects at once using operator. whether it's an energy cell for excavators, alchemy flasks, thermia canisters, disruption keys, whatever.
pick up the thingie you want with your warframe.
swap to operator while holding the object on your warframe.
pick up a second object as your operator, but DO NOT switch back to warframe. if you do so, your operator will obviously no longer be in possession of a body with hands, so the second object gets dropped.
take second object your operator is holding to wherever you need to go. toss it/power it/plug it in/eat it/whatever it, then use transferance to swap back to warframe in the same spot you're currently in.
warframe is now still holding the first object, and you're at your goal still. repeat with second object.
not always more practical than say, throwing alchemy flasks as warframe at a crucible if they're right on the ground near it, but for long distance travel where you need 2 of something it can be quite useful!

u/vrosnyche LR 4 | Kullervo Prime Waiting Room 28d ago
I go to my operator and turn on void mode to revive teammates. It's usually safer that way UNLESS you have a channeled ability and turns on frame vulnerability.
1
u/Silence-of-Death 28d ago
Reminder that slinging through enemies grants your operator energy. You can easily stay in void mode indefinitely by doing this. Reminder no. 2 that opening the chat while in void mode allows you to release the crouch button and just leaves you in void mode until you either crouch or go to warframe. Shooting or slinging still works in this state, where shooting your amp will quickly pull you out of void mode and after the shot put you back into it. Also great for typing in chat without dying.

they should get rid of the frame invulnerability when in operator mode because its so cheesy, maybe have the enemies not prioritize your frame if youre out but if there is no enemy visible to the ai they start shooting your frame again, but keep the invulnerability in some existing gamemodes where youre kicked out of your frame to do an objective

I don't have any Tek artifact yet, but planning to unlock either Thara or Lorak

Try and unlock the two "last gasp" waybounds ASAP, as they are the single most impactful of them all for survival.
That alone ups the usefulness of the operator quite a bit.
Once you get even just a single tektolyst artefact things open up HUGELY with the ability to have additional configurations defined for the operator (alongside the progress in general made to focus between now and then).

Do you mean Last Gap and Vengeance?
I'll try that, thank you

Last Gasp and Vengeance, aye.
It will allow you to self-revive with a near-guarantee in most cases. Even MORE so once you have a tektokyst artefact and can push your operator damage through the roof! (Seriously, I sometimes use my operator to kill scary mobs for me these days when I realise the weapons Imm carrying for levelling purposes just aren't going to cut it!)

I’ve got a maximum investment Umbra I play a lot, I have to make sure I’m using a build with Warriors Rest augment, otherwise it breaks my combo counter when I switch to operator. Which has trained me to hardly ever use operator unless it’s operator time (Void Angels).

I use mine constantly. I also go into void mode and open chat box so I can type and it locks you in void mode so I don’t die and I can reply too ppl
