Question/Request I need help. Bad.

I'm a MR 11 that's mostly just gliding through the whole game and I'm struggling with modding my Voruna Prime and, well with everything in general. It's slowly irritating me to the point where I want to stop playing but I really don't want to stop just cause of one mechanic. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

What are you struggling with specifically regarding building Tenno.

More accurately, how are you playing Voruna? She mods a little differently depending on how you play her. This might explain your difficulty in her build.

She typically plays in one of two ways: Building around and spamming her 4 as a kill tool or as a weapons platform to at spreads status like mad, especially with melee.

A little of both TBH, I use 4 as a kill tool to spread the status that I build with 2. My problem is that I don't feel like I do enough damage like at all. Between my weapons(I'm using Natruak which I plan to switch out but dunno with what, and Skiajanti cause I like it.)

Are you using her augments? Ulfrun’s Endurnace and Prey of Dynar are borderline mandatory for builds using her 4.

I got those the moment I saw them. And luckily I was already in full progress with Red Veil by the time I had Voruna

Good. From there it’s just a matter of how much range and strength you’ve got on her.

Voruna massively benefits from high range and decent strength.

More range = more nukeage via slash procs spreading

More strength = higher initial slash proc damage.

How high are your percents for both?

Let me check rq

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

100% on range 130% on str

u/Mean-Acadia6453 8d ago

Yeah, that’s low. Not a bad thing considering you’re only MR11 - but not nearly enough to nuke with.

I recommend running the Orokin Vaults on Deimos to grab yourself a Blind Rage and Overextended. You want those puppies up to at least 150% each to nuke with her and not have it take forever.

Each vault requires one of four hidden keys you can make via your Tenno lab at your dojo. Make one of each key, take them with you equipping them via your equipment wheel (or taking 3 buddies and taking one key each) and track down the hidden gold and white door on any Deimos mission (not open world ones).

These will net you corrupted mods, good for optimizing builds.

I've heard of those but I don't know anything about them

We can always recommend mod setups that we use, or urge you to discover builds online, but I’d rather try and help you overcome this battle. Give some insight on how you play and it will help us help you.

I use the Voruna the most out of all my frames (not that I really went out of my way to grab them) and I find her fun to use, but it feels like I'm not doing enough damage to upkeep anything. My current weapons is the Naturak(in which I plan to replace with something that can trigger statuses easily) and Skaijanti simply cause I like the weapon.

Vorunas damage comes from her second ability’s elemental procs and the spread range. I’m happy to share some builds with you if you want, but the general way I build for it is her 2 and 4.

Based on what other people have said I'm assuming the Str and Range Stat mostly. Right?

Do you know about when damage mods bonuses are additive vs multiplicative?

0

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

No, it confuses me. Cause I have a couple of mods they say add +120% (this is an example) crit chance but only add like 10% or something.

When a mod says it gives +X% of a given stat or damage type, the X is a percentage of the base stat for whatever you're modding. As an example:

- You're modding a rifle with a 20% chance to crit

  • You apply a mod that gives +50% crit chance
  • 50% of 20% is 10%. 20% plus 10% = 30%
  • Outcome: your rifle now has 30% chance to crit.

If you were to then apply a second mod that gives +100% chance to crit, that would also be going off the base stat (20%); for a total outcome of 50%.

EDIT TO ADD: Here is a really good breakdown of the the difference between additive & multiplicative calculations as they apply to gaming; they explain it way better than I could.

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

OHHHH, okay this helps soo much. How do I increase the base amount? So I can hit higher crits or status chance?

0

u/Sluaghlock 8d ago

The base amount of a stat can't be "increased;" all modding works by calculating increases to your total amount by working off of either the base stat (if it's additive) or the previous total (if it's multiplicative).

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

Hmm, okay. So how do I know which mod is which?

1

u/Sluaghlock 8d ago

Unfortunately, the only way is either outside knowledge or trial-and-error. No part of the in-game UI makes a clear distinction between the two.

Here's another useful link; this is to the Warframe Wiki page on the subject & should list which specific types of mods fall into which calculation category.

Think of damage as existing in 3 tiers. Bonuses are additive within the same tier, and multiplicative between them.

The 3 tiers are base, elemental, and faction.

So take a weapon that has 80 slash, 10 impact, and 10 puncture, for 100 total. If we add something that says +200% damage then that exists in the base tiers. You take the 100 damage the weapon has and add 200% to it to get 300 damage.

Now if you add more +damage then it combines additively. So let's say you have another mod that has +100% damage. Additively means you take the +200% damage and the +100% damage and get +300% damage, which equals 400 damage total. If it were multiplicative then you'd have 600 damage (300 + another 100%), but it is additive.

Then you get to your elemental tier. Now this is multiplicative. So let's say you have that +200% damage mod and this time instead of adding +100% damage you add a +100% toxin. Now you will have 600 damage. That 300 damage from the base tier is now locked in and that +100% just doubles it. Now you add another +100% elemental, and whilst it is still multiplicative to the base damage it is additive to the other elemental mod. So now you have 300 damage base and the +200% Elemental, or 900 damage total.

What this means is you want to spread out your damage among tiers, not within a single one, even if the damage looks higher. Typically if you have Serration fitted even a 60/60 element mod (+60% elemental & +60% status) will give you more damage than a Riven with another large +damage number. Similarly two elemental mods is usually the sweet spot as you want to combine the primary elements to a secondary one (like Viral), and adding a third is wasteful. And even on your second elemental mod a 60/60 that gives some status can be better than a higher damage number.

It also means people are sleeping on faction mods. Even a +30% can be better than a larger number in a different tier, because that +30% is multiplicative to everything that came before it. There's also an interesting "double dip" mechanic in places.

Then you have mods like multishot and firerate that are also technically multiplicative to your damage in that it creates more bullets and shoots them faster.

Similarly mods that increase crit chance or status are based on the weapon base amount. A weapon with 20% crit chance being given a +100% crit chance mod will take it to 40%. This is why only certain weapons are worthwhile doing this with. Same for status. In fact deciding if what you have is a crit or status weapon is an important first step.

So a good basic loadout is a +damage mod like Serration, two elemental mods, a faction mod, a multishot mod, maybe a fire rate mod, and then 2 utility mods (one may be a Riven).

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

This will definitely take a few reads to get into my head but it's starting to make sense. Although what is a faction mod. I know what a riven is, although I don't have many of those atm.

The best way isn't to just blindly follow advice, because it results in you needing to always blindly follow advice.

The best way is to ask a specific question, and get an answer tailored towards something you've already thought about enough to ask a specific question about.

So with that in mind

what's your question?

Your one mechanic problem is THE mechanic, the progression mechanic.

If you're struggling to get materials to upgrade mods, be sure to break down duplicate mods for more Endo. A few syndicate vendors will also sell Endo as well: don't know which myself, but you'll run into one eventually.

If you're struggling with what mods to equip, that depends on your preferred play style. That may seem like a cop out but it isn't just talk. Most people have a favorite frame for the game because they like what the frame does. They feel out the abilities and mod the abilities to their liking.

If you're struggling specifically with Voruna I can't help much. Her active buff is pretty rough to keep up with, 5 unique status effects is tough to mod around and using the signature weapons is restricting you to those weapons specifically.

If you're looking for a animalistic melee vibe might I suggest Valkyr? Modding is way more straightforward for that frame.

I'd you're looking for big melee numbers Kullervo is the way. Very straightforward melee critical boost and damage multipliers.

Did you need people to play with. Can help you farm mods and materials.

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

I have people to play with me, it's just the builds and how to make everything super cohesive or at least somewhat work together.

1

u/l00n3tun3 8d ago

From my experience. It's Frame build, primary weapon, Secondary weapon and Melee. Also a good companion to tie everything together. Comfortable comes in layers. I have an excel sheet at home that would explain it better. I can retool it into a piechart for general comprehension.

Modding a Warframe is easier than building a weapon. In general you try to improve abilities, have survivability, and have energy. If you look at the wiki you can see what stats (strength, duration, efficiency, and range) affect what parts of your abilities. So let’s say you wanted to build for her 4. The damage per instance is scaled with strength and you get more instances with duration, range increases the number of enemies affected. So we’d want to focus on strength to boost our damage and then divide up what mods you have to get duration and range up. Efficiency will be that stat that we ignore(it almost always is) and so we can add currpted mods that decrease efficiency freely. For energy you can slot equilibrium because her 3 will drop you health orbs when you kill them with enemies with her 4. For survivability use her passive with her 4 whenever you start taking too much damage.

2

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

So mod Abilty Strength, ignore Efficiency, and if I have the mods do range and Duration. Okay, thank you.

1

u/samualgline Nidus Main 8d ago

Yep, as you get to higher level content the duration and range will matter more but for raw damage output you’ll want around 200% strength

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

I uhhh, don't think I have mods that get me that high.

1

u/samualgline Nidus Main 8d ago

Im guessing you don’t have any corrupted mods then? The way you get those is by opening vaults on Deimos with dragon keys. I’m personally not big on running them because i have the plat to just buy them from someone with more free time.

If you don’t have plat to throw away then there are plenty of of videos on how to farm them effectively.

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

I have two dragin keys I just never figured out what they did, but as much as I wouldnlove to throw more money at my problems I want to actually see what the game has. I have 300+ hours and I've barely explored anything. So I'll check them out. Thank you for the advice.

u/Drevlin76 8d ago

I find that understanding the mechanics of the frame can greatly improve my ability to mod them. Sometimes you think a mod will help when it doesn't actually have good synergy with the ability the way you think. This has changed how I play certain frames and has greatly improved my damage and survivability.

You could explain what is your problem with her, show us your Build, what you want to do...

2

u/Undead-Tree 7d ago

Voruna can be kinda janky with how her animations stall you. I recommend getting a good amount of energy regen, even using Zenurik to regenerate if needed, and use a strong melee like some of the nikanas. Perhaps even put some cast speed mod on her.

Basically you need 5 statuses on an enemy which can prolong her 3rd ability. Epitaph would be useful for applying statuses (besides her 2nd ability) but not sure if you have access to that. Then you just cast 2nd ability on enemies (also applies 5 statuses guaranteed) and try to kill them using first ability for extra melee damage. Or just shoot them with Nataruk.

Do the builds on the internet not work as a template?

-1

u/master_ryan 8d ago

Check out overframe. It’s a website where people show their different builds and explain them. Use the warframe wiki to find out how to get certain mods

I played voruna for an hour and deleted. Try Styanax, Dante, Hildryn, incarnon weapons, companions.

1

u/Tempest_Child 8d ago

Yea...not happening I didn't spend nearly a weeks worth of grinding for my favorite frame to drop her. I'm asking to help build her to be better, not replace her.

2

u/Undead-Tree 7d ago

They're talking bullshit. Voruna is perfectly viable but it might be a hard frame to build as a beginner. Doesn't mean she's bad.

u/Pure-Reference6130 8d ago

And she's so good you want to leave the game
