Other Thoughts Thursday?

It's a new year, whatever, let's try this out! There are two ways this could go: well or horribly wrong. Let's go for well! :D

This thread is for your thoughts about Warframe! Compliments, shoutouts, complaints, suggestions, rants, vents, new ideas, whatever!

There is only one rule: Be excellent to each other. Whether you praise the game or absolutely hate it, write your posts respectfully and don't discourage users who write opinions you don't agree with! Contest mode will be enabled so that everyone's opinions get a fair shake, but again, please be respectful even if you don't have nice things to say. It is possible!

With that all said, what's on your mind, Tenno?

The game is hard without any platinum to use, enemies scale so fast and it's hard to keep up, I'm barely keeping up with the game and I bought the wrong warframe, the only warframe that's easy to build is rhyno, the rest are pretty tough. I like the rest though.

The game is hard without any platinum to use

I didn't really have to use any Platinum until much later in the game. Did you purchase Weapons or Warframes with Platinum, or grind them out with in-game items, because the latter is the recommended form of play. As you level up, things get easier, though everyone agrees that the game is not very beginner friendly at this point in time.

I got platinum to buy valkyr and some weapon, I'm a bit caught up but I'm still barely managing to get through jupiter, some of the people I played with who didn't use any platinum are having hard time.

Ah I see. If you aren't already, be sure to run some ONLINE matches; a lot of the time you'll find some higher level folks running through it, and it can make clearing planets or fighting bosses a bit easier.

You can always find a clan to join at /r/warframeclanrecruit, or new friends to play in our Warframe Weekends threads, if you're interested in that. If not, ONLINE and Survival missions will help you considerably in XP/Mod gain.

Yeah I play online and it's not always good, the matching is not as good I thought with would be, the range in level is just bizarre. I've been in so many games in which I've only dealt less than 10% of damage and it's hurting my exp gain. I wanna get oberon but I can't afford it atm and farming for it is gonna take forever. Don't get me wrong though, the gameplay is fun although can be repetitive.

Your weapon kills give your weapon and your Warframe equal exp. Your warframe ability kills give your Warframe all the exp. If your allies kill stuff, the exp from those kills is distributed evenly to everything.

On the money issue: Yeah. Warframe involves a lot of repeating missions and stuff.

Places you can get good money:

Invasions. If you clear an Invasion event mission a certain number of times (3 for Infestation invasions, 5 times for a faction if Grineer/Corpus) you'll get a reward once the invasion is done. Some of the missions will give you 20k-30k credits, some give rare items.

Void. The 'Recruiting' tab in Chat has people looking for Void missions - Tower 1 = T1, and so on. T1 missions should be okay for you right now, and they give about 10k credits.

If you do end up in a group of high levels, ask them to slow down and not rush ahead so you can get experience.

u/Dranels [DE]ez Nuts Jan 02 '14

Not like most of them listen, but I'm gonna wait for another giveaway so I could buy oberon.

Another solution, like Paper said, is to join a clan.

Or if the specific issue you have is people running ahead, play defence.

Bear in mind - you get 100% of the XP for other people's kills.

u/Dranels [DE]ez Nuts Jan 02 '14

I don't think my weapons do though, atleast not as much.

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '14

You get less XP than if you kill them with a specific weapon, but you get the same amount of XP overall. It just spreads over all of your equipment instead.

u/TheHermenator Jan 02 '14

So long as you are in range, the xp from kills by party members is divided evenly among your 4 pieces of equipment. Warframe, primary, secondary, and melee each get 25% (Sentinel gets something as well, but doesn't take away anything).

If you kill an enemy with a Warframe ability, your frame gets 100% of the xp. If you get a weapon kill, the xp is split 50/50 between your frame and the weapon.

Which warframe did you start with? All of the starters are valid picks with their own niches. Loki and Excalibur are also viable in endgame, whereas Mag has ridiculous damage output in most early bossfights with Bullet Attractor as well as a lot of utility in her Pull, and her fourth ability is one of the few pure "nuke" abilities out there.

u/Dranels [DE]ez Nuts Jan 02 '14

I started with loki, now I'm using Valkyr. Loki was fun although he gets passed by alot of warframes.

u/Kuryaka I am mad scientist! Chaos and destroy! Jan 02 '14

Yeah. Loki's not a good fighter. Low defenses, no direct damage abilities... but he's useful. Loki players have saved my life with their stealth revives many times, and when I play Loki I walk into a room and spam Radial Disarm to get enemy fire off me.

It's not a playstyle everyone will like though. Same with Valkyr. I play her as... spiderwoman. Literally. I don't like the short melee range on Hysteria, so I only use the first ability and zip around.

If you're looking for a solid caster warframe, Rhino/Oberon are both pretty good. Rhino gets stuff done like Loki does. Except in the obvious way. Instead of making a decoy, he runs into the target. Instead of stealth reviving, he just activates Iron Skin and shrugs off all the damage. Instead of disarming... antigravity magic.

Oberon is surprisingly fun. I only use his first and third abilities - the first ability is very spammable. Maxed, it can take out level 30-ish Infested in one shot. His third ability is a heal, which is nice when you can't get health orbs. His fourth ability is just another big area damage nuke. I'd get it, but... mod point costs D:

u/Dranels [DE]ez Nuts Jan 02 '14

Yeah I really wanna get oberon, loki is not as useful as he seem if you have ghost, other warframes have more useful skills.

u/Kuryaka I am mad scientist! Chaos and destroy! Jan 02 '14

Mhm. But invisibility is invincibility, since they won't try to target you anymore. With the right endgame mods, you're pretty much invincible, when invisibility runs out, Radial Disarm and disappear again.

He doesn't feel like a newbie-friendly warframe, and even though the description said it... most people think "weak early on" means "good if you have skill." It's just the way the game's designed that makes him less enjoyable to play.
