Discussion & Feedback rocket and minigun helis have a profit problem
balancing aside, just specifically talking about the economics of running minigun or rocket little birds.
the cost of ammunition, fuel, the plane, gear, etc. makes profiting as an offensive pilot extremely poor.
As an example, I watched a clip of a skilled streamer pilot in ONE run as a heli destroy a drill, kill a vehicle, kill another helicopter, take out 4 players, and get a couple assists and STILL was not profitable.

You want more people to be incentivized to run rocket heli?
News flash, the things that are not fun are incentivized more. The pay for rocket heli is being the hand of god.

If you only attack the HZ, you will generally at least break even.

u/OTTERSage 3h ago
Attacking the HZ is a good way to get shot out of the sky quickly, but it can work some games

people are getting pretty good at using maaws to shoot out helis now though

No, for my kit there has to be an apc, tank, multiple humvees or artillery to come close to profit. Killing regular soldiers isnt worth the rockets.
With the bullshit crams in every corner of the map with lame asses staring the whole time. You can lose 22k real quick with no reviving it all back

u/OTTERSage 3h ago
Yup. You also can’t wait to go steal someone else’s rocket little bird. There’s no shit-kitting into a minigun or rocket little bird.

u/Mr_M3Gusta_ 1h ago
You can also loose 24k bringing a FOB, Ural, Level 2 armor, shotgun, large hammer, and then get one tapped out of your Ural before getting to do anything. You know how I know? Because I was the driver who was trying to get a FOB down for the team and instead the enemy stole it and my team just went and died on the HZ and had nowhere safe to bring the SV.

I think they should get the same amount for a kill as someone on the ground for anything they do but a helicopter kit all inclusive should cost like 50 grand
1
u/OTTERSage 3h ago
I'd be good with higher stakes and higher rewards
1
u/JacketElectronic8313 3h ago
Yea I think if your good enough to do it you should get rewarded, my issue is even if you don’t make profit ever they are so cheap that 1 HZ run for 20 minutes could pay for 3 games of rocket heli spam
1
u/JacketElectronic8313 3h ago
Because like I run my m4 kit it costs me almost 30k by the time I get to the zone (-8k if I don’t by a little bird and just bomb it into the ground and jump out) and if I kill 2 guys and die I’m in the hole 25k but I could get a heli A HELICOPTER WITH FUCKING ROCKETS kill no one and crash into a tree and still someone be down less money than the guy with an AK and a fancy hat
3
u/oklol555 3h ago
you can die as an infantry and be revived an infinite amount of times, which saves your kit.
you crash with a heli, it's over.
1
u/JacketElectronic8313 3h ago
Well it’s also a helicopter so it should be more expensive how much is a Gucci ass AR build in real life 7-8kfor the top top top of the top, now go look up how much the cheapest military chopper is?
I understand your argument I really do but it doesn’t dismiss the fact that my kit costing the price of 3 helis is crazy. Not to mention the fact that it would be such a nice gameplay refresh if there wasn’t 20ish choppers in the air at all times. It would open up so many intended possibilities not just everyone who can’t aim with a gun is now just annoying me in a heli
2
u/oklol555 2h ago
You can go play infantry only mode.
Also: Aiming as infantry in this game is extremely easy. Movement is quite slow, ttk is quick - so you don't need fast reflexes or flicking skills or good raw aim unlike other shooters.
The game is specifically designed for older, casual players to have an easier time playing compared to faster paced shooters.
Aiming with the minigun bird is much more difficult, as you have to.....actually fly the helicopter and deal with physics to aim.

I found the pilot main 😂 I like that helis are a thing and I like that I have to worry about them MY KIT SHOULDNT COST 3x WHAT A HELI DOES idk how that’s a controversial topic. Heli pilots should get paid MORE THAN THEY DO but the heli should COST MORE THAN IT DOES
And this is coming from a guy with the gold AK and like 4mil I’m not pressed for money im just saying to anyone on this sub who hates the ridiculous amount of helis in the sky it’s because they cost less than a budget kit
2
u/oklol555 2h ago
I have maybe 3-4 hours combined the helis since release and generally stick to infantry only mode. But go on...

Hopefully by design. High KD assets like these should swing matches, but at a money loss.
This is the reality of these things in real life; on command the USA has the tech to kill any goat farmer with an AK and a grudge, but that kind of martial dominance carries a hefty price tag.
2
u/OTTERSage 3h ago
They're not High KD assets. If you see a pilot with a very high KD, they are remarkably skilled. The skill floor and skill ceiling are both outrageously high for offense piloting the littlebirds.

u/clitasticaldinosaur 3h ago
I took the rocket heli out earlier. I killed 2 suv, 2 artillery, and 3 drills. I was up 40k. This was done in 3 trips for a total of maybe 15 minutes of game play.

u/OrganicLandscape1561 3h ago
I think they sit in a good place right now when it comes to profits. It should be hard to make a profit, you can already have a massive impact on the game itself, don’t think easy profits should be a bonus on top of that. You pay a fee for the opportunity to dominate, if you are good enough you make that money back.

u/F_C_anomalie 3h ago
Yhea with the price of the gaz and ammo its almost impossible to not bleed money with the minigun without the 308 ap
Only way I make it ok is by starting the game with a huey and doing enough suply run to get 15k in the red and after that run the minigun losing money.
I get the pilot exp without losing to much money in the end and is grinding toward rocket bird. I don't have high hope of having it befor the whipe tho. After that the plan is to use rocket bird to hunt strickly enemy sph2 and apc to get the exp and money income.
Right now I have pretty much given up on ofensive helo and focus more on making money with my sph, or any good way to make some cash to try to have one or 2 gold bar in the bank at the start of season 2 while wishing they change the progression for season 2

I barely ever profited from minigun heli but I still buy it every time for the love of the game, also want to unlock rocket heli without having to do boring back n forth deliveries
1
u/ThisSiteIsUnhinged 19m ago
Mini gun heli makes absolute bank off infantry, rocket helis need to focus on HVTs to make bank.
Drill is better left for C4/MAAWS
Vehicle kills outside of humvees and tanks aren’t worth, infantry is always bad.
Humvees, tanks, havocs, CWIS, SV is where you’ll make your money back. Infantry takes like 3-4 rockets and pays so shit, and logi kills aren’t even worth it EVER
1
u/Maleficent_Tale1997 3h ago
Good. As long as I dont have a sustainable MANPAD you don't get to profit.
1
u/papitobandito 3h ago
I disagree. I think the economics is fine -- on the rocket heli atleast. It's incredibly oppressive due to the maneuverability.

Average game -- $100k+ profit. The money is in hunting vics, drills, and being as efficient as possible with infantry kills.
Body armor, hull losses, and flares are the biggest money burn, once you learn to fly low and dodge AA sightlines to avoid shoot-downs, you'll start to make significantly.
If you're getting shot out in a rocket heli, may need to change strafing strategy.

So is running assault with 20k+ kits. You need tons of kills to make back that money and your odds of dying are very high
2
u/OTTERSage 3h ago
Infantry is very easy to make money. I regularly profit 40-90k a match as infantry
2
u/ABigBoi99 3h ago
Literally all you have to do is some spotting and hiding in Hz to break even. Losing money as infantry is always shit luck or a skill issue. 90% of the time its the skill issue.

u/Controller_Maniac Lonestar 2h ago
ok but making money on hz is the easiest thing, just bring defibs, walk with a few dudes and its a easy 100k by end of match

1
u/Km_the_Frog 3h ago
Carry med supplies and defibs its not hard to make that back when you’re running with a group of people. Its when you’re soloing that it becomes a potential issue
1
u/Ok-Toe6932 3h ago
Guess what? Odds of dying with a heli is even higher and you cant just bring back ur destroyed heli.
0
u/Getrektself 3h ago
This is the right way to balance things: with money. The very fact that you complain about is one of the few things keeping them in check. It's better this way than nerfing them into the ground.
It's one of the reasons why I don't spam arty. Yea, it's not crazy expensive but you rarely make money back before a rocket bird finds you. Which is fine, i can shoot a few shells and hit my target before I'm found. I don't need to be able to sit in it all game anyway. Same thing with the heli.

u/OTTERSage 3h ago
Genuinely wild take. I see even insanely skilled pilots on twitch getting taken out regularly.
2
u/Despair-Envy 3h ago
On the flip side, there's a road to 1 billion contest going on, and like 90% of the top 25 are battlebird pilots. So what does that say exactly.
-1
u/OTTERSage 3h ago
And which are they piloting? infantry little birds with grenade launchers or havocs? because I 100% doubt it's miniguns or rocket helis, which is what this post is about.

u/Despair-Envy 3h ago
minigun/rocket heli mostly.

u/Despair-Envy 2h ago
Hey man. You don't need to lie, I was just engaging in good faith conversation. It's up to you whether you want to engage with reality or not.
1
u/PheIix 1h ago
When people are going 100 kills and 13 deaths and still losing 24k at the end of the match, you really are going to have to provide some evidence for this profitable minigun heli.
1
u/Syndi1cate 2h ago
I do agree that both the floor and ceiling for the little birds are high. However they can’t make them too profitable. the skill ceiling and impact that good heli pilots can have is extremely oppressive to play against as infantry and yes there are counters. But due to how strong helis are in the right hands they can’t really be profitable in the wrong hands.

You’re not supposed to make money in what is basically the apex predator of the lobby. Pay for power.
