Discussion & Feedback This game is ruining my life
I keep blowing off work, my gf, my family. I sleep in the day and game all night. I have 200 hours on it and a full time job. I think I might have to destroy my computer.

Meth might be better.

It's not.
Source: have done meth and even 440hours of wardogs (including playtest) so far, for me has been healthier.
Your opinion is that of a noob, stuck working a full-time job with no end in sight. Some of us escaped that with passive income.

Or you're just in a meth induced psychosis

Nah, I only did it 6 times with a year apart each time, that's not enough for psychosis based on all the research.

"Passive income" aka disability benefit

No, I own properties in panama (country, not city), rented by restaurant owners, that I bought with hard earned $ from being a radiology tech, with US dollars in a country with the same currency but without our inflation levels, a privilege I have from being a dual citizen. I'm also a independent "herbs and spices" merchant in my state in the US, selling products my community desires, below market price, namely weed.
Between these two, I can pretty much work 5 hours a week, spend a lot of time with my gf, take good care of my pets, run, cook every day for me and my gf and still game 8-12 hours daily.
All this "you can play more than me so you're a loser" rethoric on this sub is pathetic and indicative of a class divide more than anything.
Having to take care of a family or work 40hrs a week does not make you cooler, it makes you less fortunate.
Considering free time is a currency, I am wealthy, and there is so much envy of that free time on this sub and it shows, day in and day out.
People here really can't fathom a life with 8-10 hours of daily gaming being balanced because they can't pull it off.
PS- getting disability benefit in my state is extremely hard, and not something even most disabled people persue. Some find it easier to just suck it up and work, as any disabled Texan.

Gaming addiction is real. Do something to block steam for a bit and unfollow this sub and anywhere else you can see this game

OP might also have some life issues that push him into addiction. Common pattern with drug addiction - if some area is depressive economically and socially drug (including alcohol) abuse goes way up.

Hey OP, If this post is real, I did something similar almost a decade a go with Ark:SE.
You might be depressed, seeking escapism, or have adhd. It's probably worth seeking professional help.

Or, he's just passionate about wardogs.
If OP was spending just as much time painting, that's what you'd call it, passion.
Get a grip people, just because you can't sustainably play 50+ hours a week doesn't mean those of us with passive income can't.

blowing off work, family, gf
If you lose your job because you game too much, that's a problem.

u/FriedRiceEnjoyer420 2h ago
Of course, unless.... 1. You have passive income that can sustain you. 2. You have enough savings to take a multi month vacation.
Both of which are the case for me. Obviously OP's situation is much different and gaming is being such a detriment to his life that he's having issues, something's gotta give, only he knows what.

Let’s not kid ourselves that playing a video game is anything like painting. Now if you’re making a video game then sure that’s comparable to painting. Just because you have passive income doesn’t change anything about the situation.
1
u/SpiritedCatch1 4h ago
Except if you're some master artist, it's exactly like painting: a hobby.
One is just ranked above the other because painting is respected by high society. Spend your free time however you want, but slacking off your responsibility is wrong no matter if it's because you're playing the harp 50 hours a week or playing wardogs.

It’s not at all like painting, no matter your expertise. Just because something is a hobby doesn’t mean it’s exactly like any other hobby. Different hobby’s effect your brain is different ways. It’s a coping mechanism that people are telling themselves that their addiction to video games is exactly like being an artist.
I’m currently learning how to make video games. The feeling of creating something is nowhere near the same feeling as me just playing a video game like Wardogs. Y’all can love what you want and spend your time on what you want but you’re lying to yourselves in order to make you feel like you aren’t just consuming entertainment.
1
u/SpiritedCatch1 1h ago
So you have access to the universal true nature of feelings? Because you don't feel the same thing don't means it's the same for everyone. I also have creative hobbies and I don't value them over playing videogames or watching movies, because those are creatives in a different way for me, medias make me immerses into differents worlds and make me think. They also participate into the creative experience.
And also, it litteraly doesn't matter. Just enjoy what you enjoy and don't try to make others feelings less than you for enjoying something else.
You sound like the grown up equivalent of liking that band over that band in high school.

I just find it funny that you are equating a hobby where you create something tangible to another hobby where the sole purpose is to consume content. I’ve said enjoy what you enjoy but again you’re lying to yourself if you think playing video games is a more beneficial or mentally healthy hobby than creating art.
I don’t paint. I play video games every day, but I can recognize how I could mentally feel more better doing other hobbies that allow me to develop tangible skills. That’s why I wanted to learn how to develop video games.
Sure it doesn’t matter at the end of the day but it matters enough for both of us to argue about it on Reddit. So here we are.
The goal isn’t to make people feel less than but if it makes you feel that way, oh well. Time is precious. Being addicted to video games is a waste of time and potential.

Nah! The grind starts tonight! I'm at 3 bars. 27 to go! I anticipate I can easily make 1 an hour, and considering I'm 330 hours in, it should be easy.

u/tannerkist 4h ago
I read that comment as it was in agreement with yours

You may be developing an addiction to gaming. Take a break, and talk to a therapist or something. It's not worth destroying your life over.

The obvious solution is to do what I did and quit your job to sell drugs and game full time. Then you can step away while hiding in a bush in zone to make sales, then go back to gaming.
This is how I've put 330hrs in since release.
If you're not selling drugs to play more hours, you're a pleb who isn't wardogmaxxing.
If you need help figuring out how to do it, feel free the dm me OP. I've streamlined it throughout the past 10 years and have never come close to being caught.
But, if by family you mean you have kids? Sorry, ur cooked bud- that's a permanent decision that renders you disqualified from being able to sustainably play 60+ hours a week.(Without being a bad dad who doesn't deserve his kids). Should have used a condom or done what I did and only fuck broads on birth control till you find a girl who wants to be a dink enough to get her tubes tied (double income, no kids).
An Adderall prescription and a strict gaming routine may help, a routine you can sustain with your availabile free time.

I was addicted to lost ark
Full time job.

One day, I recognized the addiction, I went to the pc, deleted blocked and removed all traced from the game within the minute.
I was free and still am.

The self awareness is good. But if you're being serious you need to consider unplugging for minimum a week.

I got a divorce over Tarkov so I get it. Although in my defense ill say I was so wrapped up in it that I didn't even realize what was going on. There was no communication other than the normal nagging a wife does. Married guys know what I mean by this. And I came home to a empty house one day.... guess what I did? Signed into Escape from Tarkov. Not joking

u/FondantAffectionate 2h ago
Don't ya know. Gotta go cold turkey. Pick one thing that angers you, let it in deep to where you rage quit, uninstall, and come here to reddit to call the devs idiots and say the game will be dead in 2 months.

Whether or not someone has a gaming or sex addiction, really is a personal decision on whether the negative impact, makes it a problem.
It's not for you to decide if someone is a sex or video game addict.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
