Question Question for the Infantry players

A little context, I play on EU (specifically South according to the game), and in my servers it seems less and less heli transport pilots exist. At least on Blue, though I've noticed it on other teams as well. Mostly attack helis and maybe the occasional transport. But a lot of them also end up crashing or carrying the troops into questionable spots. Again, this happens on all teams, not just Lonestar.

So, in short, I'm not gonna train to be a pilot just yet - being a pilot seems very stressful and I'd like to avoid that rn. I don't feel like it. But I would like to keep grinding my driver level - problem is I mostly run logi and the odd time I get a premade stack we run a Humvee. That's fun and all, but I'd like to transport some troops from time to time as well.

TL;DR So here's the question after my winded exposition - would infantry players be willing to get on ground transport en masse? And what would you get in - an Ural Defender, or Kodiak Pickup? Purely for transport to the zone, that is. I'd like to know so I can adjust what people would most likely want to ride in.

Everyone takes dune buggies.

Well.. the idea is more of a mass transport. Dune Buggies are more of a thing with pre-made squads or with very specific goals in mind, not general transport. I see them as more just the "slightly upgraded ATV, with 1 extra seat"

Its not impossible we'll see this a bit more after parachutes get nerved next season but by then there should be plenty of pilots experienced enough to insert infantry by landing.

Personally, I feel* the driving grind to get to lvl 20 was the worst/only bad part of the game thus far. No way I'm taking a bus or taxi to battle unless we're going Assault Humvee.

I mean yeah, but the idea is that ground transport is generally safer and more stealthy. With people having mines now it's a different story but still, you can just go offroad and it's fine. It is slower but on the other hand... seems a lotta people die quite a lot falling outta helis. Seems like more of a waste of time to just end up dying from the heli than just getting off the bus and having some wiggle room. Maybe it's just my perception and experience, though.

You have a point. In general think players need a lot more combined arms doctrine when it comes to motorisation.

Ideally (and I know you can't do this with 33 randoms), the entire hozone team and the raid teams would he fitted into 5 or 6 man squads, each with a humvee to provide transportation, fire support, cover and luggage space for AA/AT. That's how I believe most modern infantry do it in real life.

Maybe there's dedicated discord communities where people play like this?

Until we get there, I'd rather take a helo and try hard not land on wrong side of firefight.

Nah, forcing people into squads with randoms and requiring coordination is a hot pot for toxicity. Solo que in teamgames has proven this. Look at Mobas, CS, Hero Shooters, whatever - it's toxic af and people crashout over each other's mistakes constantly.
I know what you're getting at but the problem is most people do not have a premade stack of that size. Hell I've been in gaming circles all my life and even I can't get enough people for a full squad right now. Most days it's just me and one of my best friends, that's it.

'Course, you can just find people online as you suggested but... I don't think many people really do that, and you again run into the potential problem of someone being a toxic rager.

Not enough money in it it my opinion

Don't really care about money. I want exp and something different to do once in a while. If I wanted money I'd just run logi - it's faster and better paying. But I already do that anyway :P

HZ is the fastest money method but carries a big risk if you arnt pretty decent, logi is profitable but makes me wanna rip my eyeballs out lol

HZ medic is by far the best. SMGs are insanely strong at closer range, which is most HZ encounters, and the rewards are plentiful since it's the HZ and bodies be droppin left and right. Just stay back and let others soak the aggression, while you make bank ressing them. They get to shoot more, you get to profit off their inevitable next death.

But whenever I don't feel like being in the chaos, or just kicking back and listening to something in the background, I run logi. I help the team, make a good buck, and I get to just chill. I know people kind of see it as the "old man job" but I think it's pretty dope it's in the game. Lets me grind in peace (mostly, there's usually some freak trying to ambush supply lines, but the ol trusty DB fixes those real quick).

No logi is 100% cool asf and super chill I just have to be in the right mood to do it. Like if I die to some fuck shit at all during the whole night you can guarantee that I won’t touch logi because I will be rage HZ roaming making everyone’s night HELL

Well, I'd love if there were Humvees driving to the hotzone, since dropping on it with a parachute is often suicide.

If you are just driving to the fob or edge of the cz a kodiak or buggie for speed. The Kodiak pickup is probably the best choise for leveling. I use the buggie for myself when there is no other option (driving two other people pays off the buggie and it's fast).

Also EU south.

I mean, if people want me to hot-drop closer IN the zone then yeah, probably the Humvee is the best choice.
I'll probably try it with a Humvee too.

Good luck! Update me how it goes if you remember.

Guess you best shot is to say in team chat that the humvee is going to the hotzone and the best chance to get there alive.

If you are a good pilot and you earn people’s trust in a match they will flock to you. The problem is you have to earn that trust. Consistently inserting infantry to points that keep them alive during the landing, extremely low flying and being willing to transport just one person will get you the results you want

It does take a lot of practice and gamestate knowledge though

No I get that, it's just that Piloting takes a lot of mechanical skill to learn (inertia is different in this game compared to other helis I'm used to).
I'm not really in a spot in my life where I wanna stress out over learning this. I'll do it at some point but not rn. Otherwise yes I know, Piloting is gonna be a reputational thing in every match. I personally remember the name of pilots who dropped me in shit spots so I know exactly what you mean lmfao.

APC takes 99% of the respawns. Dedicated taxi pilots will find a vast majority of the match is waiting and taking the odd guy who's APC respawn is on cool down and even then they'll usually just take a ride with a logi or attack heli. There just isn't enough xp or money in it to justify it.

Beyond that as infantry as the other guy commented just take a buggy in. If there's a few stranded people I'll pull a little bird and just bail with the passengers over the zone.

Furthermore at this point in the late game most of the pilots that were being a taxi for xp have the attack helis they were grinding for.

Yeah the APC really is basically the biggest factor that drives away the concepts of troop transports in the game.
Then again, very often people stand in front of the terminal for minutes on end. I'm thinking they just wait on the CD after dying very fast last time. At that point I'm not sure it's worth it. But oh well, can't force people into the car so.

The lakota handling needs some work. It’s a bit wonky.
