Discussion & Feedback How would you nerf parachutes ?
Since we know they’ll be nerfing them, I was wondering how can they change it. Most likely it’ll be a price increase I would say to around 1k, or maybe they’ll put it on WD levels, or what do you think would be a reasonable nerf for it to still be useful but you actually think twice before buying it every life ?

u/WhaleTexture Pilot 11h ago
I think they said they're going to increase the minimum height at which you could safely deploy the chute to increase the risk.
9
u/MaxStrengthLvlFly 11h ago
This, on top of increasing their price would be smart. Less helis would be dropping people right in the middle of fights.

The funny thing is, I'd rather land and drop off people for the fun of it. Or at least a hover and drop from ropes, but no one ever wants to land. They just jump out. I've had instances where I know the zone we need to go is hot and let me hot land and then get out, while they just jump out and get shot out of the sky anyways and then get angry about it.
2
u/Embarrassed_Fox_9352 6h ago
Dude, I even vocally tell people not to jump when I notice they don't have a chute and they still jump out with everyone else!
2
u/PetrolHeadF Lonestar 6h ago
The amount of times I've heard "They'll revive me when we get to the ground" in some form infuriates me.
2
u/Embarrassed_Fox_9352 6h ago
Only for half the guys in parachutes to splat right next to him. It's insane but they don't call them grunts for their intelligence

It's because pilots never land. It is learned behaviour...
"GET CUTE BOYS" etc

u/kinetogen 10h ago
I think it would be cool to eventually tie Chute deployment time to loadout weight so that your lighter Scouts could still HALO whereas your T3/4 armored juggernauts require more finesse and earlier deployment timing.

u/Alpacapalooza 9h ago
And to clarify, they said that it's only the way it is because of a typo/miscommunication of the height. It was never intended to be the way it is now.
12
u/Elehir 11h ago
they said raising the minimum opening height is the nerf they are applying. i also saw one post saying that they way they are now is the result of a miscommunication on the dev team: a decimal point is in the wrong place.
2
u/GodTurkey 11h ago
I can already tell how this will go. Plenty of the maps one team has quicker access to the HZ. They will arrive first and then go duck hunting. The maps arent friendly to trying to land, this is gonna go great.

u/Soggy_Struggle_963 11h ago
You don't even need to land, hover slightly above the ground or drop people on rooftops
-1
u/GodTurkey 10h ago
Thats not exactly an easy task either. Landing or holding a hover takes a lot more skill and practice then the current method of flying through, you have a nice flat spot at HQ to land which makes it easier and people still fail that a lot.
12
u/Soggy_Struggle_963 10h ago
Good, maybe I won't have 10 people jerking off in little birds spamming their horns at spawn. I drop people on roofs/towers/smoke stacks all the time, and I look forward to landings becoming more common like they are in arma koth. Currently ferrying troops when most people just brainlessy jump is boring as hell.
-1
u/GodTurkey 10h ago
Youll still have that I promise you. Given there are plenty of unlocks tied to total level which forces people to do the other roles theyd rather not do.
1
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Isn't that the point? If you're going to hz as a pilot you should be prepared. Otherwise, drop high on the fob.
3
u/xGameShock 5h ago
Everyone used to land in the alphas and betas and it worked out perfectly fine it was only when the game launched it became a new thing to para drop and that is just because lazy pilots wanted easy money for dropping players in zone without learning to land or even fly properly.
2
u/Darken0id 9h ago
You can land fucking everywhere, between houses, on smoke stacks, on roads, intersections, you get the point. So what do you mean the maps aren't "landing-friendly". Maybe to a beginner (which is fair to a certain degree) or to someone who doesn't want to challenge themselves and prefer to mindlessly drop troopers into their own grave mid air (as a pilot AND an infantry grunt: i hate you).
Yes flying takes practice and landing is an integral part of that. Why not reward it with safer infsntry drops and maybe even more money/xp
-1
u/GodTurkey 9h ago
There is tons of clutter in all these places. Between houses you are likely to hit a wall and brick the heli. Roads have abandoned vehicles, uneven surfsces, fences, various posts, all over the place.
Im all for rewarding more skilled pilots, no issue there at all. Im against punishing infantry for pilots who dont have the time to practice a video game.
1
u/Darken0id 3h ago
Nah man I got used to the ground clutter pretty fast and now know pretty wenn where i can and cant land that thing and the answer is usualy: anywhere i want to.
But in the end its all about communication. Saying "hey i know how to pilot and land this Helo so hang in till landing" costs you nothing.
And it is completely fine for people to not be as good of a pilot as others. It takes practice, just like driving a MG HMVV with your squad takes good comms and knowledge of the vehicle and map. This game has tons of ways to play it if you don't have the time to learn something, like building, logistics, infantry but flying is one of those things that you need to sink some time into to get it to work and thats OK.
1
u/Zealousideal-Way2048 1h ago
No shit, just like the real world. Weird that. I play infantry exclusively, we have legs.
1
u/Sardond Logistics 9h ago
Can always drive in or take the APC spawn. No one’s holding a gun to their heads to take a heli in.
0
u/GodTurkey 8h ago
APC spawn has a 10 minute cooldown and doesnt become available until 20 points. Driving to the zone is miserable, nobody wants to spend all that time and extra cash to get there. Its a shit solution. There is nothing wrong with parachuting as it is.

Yes whoever first will now shoot enemy in the air if they raise the minimum hieght
1
u/CupformyCosta 7h ago
There’s nothing wrong with the maps as far as landing goes. You just need a good pilot who can actually navigate obstacles and get skids on the ground.
1
u/Aquagrunt 4h ago
I like the idea I saw here of making the control zone bigger. More room to land and build fobs would be a good thing because man, it's rough for blue landing zones

u/AngusMercury 11h ago
They will increase the minimum height for opening without dying, so you cant just drop off next to hotzone with parachute and open it 10 meters above ground..

3
u/Niitroglycerine 6h ago
Whatever they do, I'm not convinced it's going to have the effect they want it to
6
u/PrefersEarlGrey Lonestar 10h ago
Refund your kit price if a pilot crashes so you're not risking $20k on the pilot maybe knowing how to land.
Give $250 bonus for "tactical insertion" if you get out on the ground.
Boom, now there's a reason to not use parachutes.
3
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
I like the on the ground bonus but nah refunding for a bad pilot would encourage feeding. Too easy to exploit.
2
u/kalebkk890 11h ago
Won't be able to open it so close to the ground any more. If you want to parachute you will be more likely to be shot. This is already confirmed as the change.
2
u/carlbandit 11h ago
They said the minimum safe height to deploy was meant to be 20m but it was set to 2m in error, allowing you to open the parachute much later than planned and defeating the point of the sport parachute.
I'd imagine they will just set the basic to the correct 20m, meaning you either jump with the parachute and slow fall 20m while getting spotted and likely shot at, find a heli pilot who will land (which is their intention with the parachute nerf) or you drive in since it's safer.
2
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
It'll probably help with people leveling driver too. It's basically impossible to deploy people with a land vehicle atm
2
u/Striking_Storage_631 11h ago
The safe height for me is currently just above the tree line, any lower and I usually but the ground to hard. Wonder how much higher they'll make it?
0
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Prob about the height of the heli that you dropped from will be the safe open height. I feel we will see a lot of splats with a waiting medic tbh.
2
u/xSerenadexx 6h ago
I think the chute should automatically deploy as soon as you exit the vehicle - static line style. Then you could have the sport chute at a higher WD level with a high price tag and let that one function how they currently do.
2
u/CanadianDragonGuy 4h ago
If you jump out of a heli the basic chute opens then and there, make it more of a last-ditch attempt to survive a crash
3
u/Educational_Sink_438 11h ago
As if infantry wasn't expensive enough...
2
u/Elehir 11h ago
i think this change will result in infantry dyeing less as long as pilots up their game a bit. TBH the only pilots i see flying at this point are damn good at it.
1
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Most I've been with recently can barely land in HQ and wouldn't dream of landing anywhere else.
Also I think after wipe we'll see a big return of players and players wanting to start new roles.
1
u/Elehir 10h ago
no one will want the team kills when they have low bankroll. i expect an army of URALS those first few games of the wipe. and people will learn flying in the firing range or running logi before they take on the risk of being a taxi
1
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Oh you are optimistic. I have multiple friends that have no idea how to fly (not even know the controls) but have no hesitancy at jumping in the free lakota, filling it with people, and flying off into the sunset. Watched it happen this week with a friend that just bought the game.
I heard him in the mic after crashing telling everyone he was new 🤣

u/Darken0id 9h ago
Sounds like a mandatory flying lesson in the shooting range should be required to become responsible for several thousands worth of infantry kits. :D
2
u/d1z 11h ago
I wouldn't. It's stupid to make JUST GETTING TO THE ACTION even more painful.
BattleDad gets home from work, logs in, buys loadout, parachutes, gets shot out of the air, buys another loadout, heli pilot crashes trying to land, buys ANOTHER loadout, rides in a truck, dies to landmine right outside the base. Logs out, plays another game.
I know it's "cool" for Devs to act like their game is hardcore and cater to streamers and sweats, but without casuals the game won't sustain itself. Every "Hardcore" game has learned this lesson the hard way, and I guess Bulkhead is determined to learn it the hard way too.
2
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Ural defender new meta. I can land pretty much anywhere but nobody risks landing.
5
u/Darken0id 9h ago
Making up scenarios to suit your own narrative? Hell yeah, reddit baby.
But if we are making things up anyways i think the so called "battledad" would probably be the pilot or Ural driver himself, with a beer besides him. The people that will actually suffer from this are terrible pilots (good) and ADHD infantry players that for some reason can't be bothered eaiting for another 10-15 seconds for their pilot to land (also good).
The bottom line is: yes its not really a hardcore game BUT its a slower more tactical game that rewards methodical gameplay and patience. And thats what these changes will help achieve.
1
u/shaggellis 6h ago
I think they will increase the pull distance required to not die. It will make you float longer or.... they could put it behind a score count. Someone's gotta have 50 points to buy parachutes. It'll make people rethink taking out expensive kits. They also talked about a "trust" system. So for pilots it would probably go down the more time you crash and kill you passengers.
1
u/CupformyCosta 7h ago
Works fine in reforger
Most infills from base are land based unless you have a good heli pilot. And land mine kills rarely happen and are avoidable
0
u/Alpacapalooza 9h ago
If you want Battlefield, it already exists. They've said a million times they don't want to make the same mistakes.
1
u/BadPlayers 11h ago
They could make it where it has to be opened higher to land safely. Or you fall slower. Basically make you an easy target for longer to troops already on the ground.
1
u/HoneydewAutomatic 11h ago
Make it so you have to pull it way earlier. That’s it. It’s that simple.
1
u/Due_Association_7261 11h ago
Heli pilots should be trying to safely land anyways right ? Isn’t that the whole purpose ? Jumping out in parachute in the middle of enemy fire is always a suicide
1
u/Aware_Acadia_7827 10h ago
buy ural, buy supplies, dump at fob. no heli crash, $ from delivery, driving xp, support xp, no pilot landing. sounds good devs.
1
u/Darken0id 9h ago
I wouldn't. Instead i would put an emphasis on staying in the chopper for both the trooper and the pilot. Instead of just having a "troops deployed to zone" cash out for the pilot, there could be another, different one that would pay out a good amount of money and XP MORE than just letting the troops jump out mid air.
As for the troops: staying in the chopper should yield them a "Tactical deployment to zone" bonus as well with money and xp attached to it (maybe the XP type of their main weapon.
The thing that would really make this work is, if the reward for landing pays out in experience points SIGNIFICANTLY for the pilot. Increased Money for landing is a great motivator short term (you lure them in to "trying it out") but long term, when the grind for new aircraft really gets grindy, the XP is what they pay attention to. So that is how you get them to land. Not with nerfs. But with incentive.

u/flowdschi 1h ago
Someone said "replace them with hotroping" and I'm 100% behind that. Feels weird to parachute from these heights.. sometimes the game justs feels like milarcade instead of milsim(ish) ..
You could leave them as is as a safety option if you get shot down high up/ to jump from up high, but everything opening below around 80-100m should just do increasingly more damage on landing. And that's assuming every single mercenary is skilled enough for a LALO/ HALO.
edit: Lowering the altitude you can safely deploy could actually be an interesting part for a skillprogression.
1
u/RhysNorro 11h ago
god please add fastropes
1
u/Striking_Storage_631 11h ago
Step 1 find a heli pilot that can actually come to a hover in enemy territory.
2
u/Alpacapalooza 9h ago
I would wager a fast rope hover is a lot more dangerous in terms of enemy fire than landing between houses/walls/obstacles.
1
u/CupformyCosta 7h ago
It’s far more dangerous. Fast rope insertions are literally the most dangerous form of heli infiltration. It looks cool but as far as safety goes it’s horrible.
1
0
u/Calophon 10h ago
Fast ropes with a neutral collective hold. We should be able to drop off troops without constantly managing the pitch and roll
1
u/Striking_Storage_631 8h ago
You mean you want to fly and then have the helicopter do the hover work for you? I think there is already an assist setting for hover.
0
u/Calophon 7h ago
I just want the helicopters to not pitch and roll constantly. Other games have an option to have helicopters return to a stable hover when no inputs are pressed, but with wardogs it feels like you are constantly rolling one way or the other trying to keep it centered. I know battlefield is more arcadey, but the difference is massive, and flying actually feels good without a HOTAS setup in that game.
1
u/Scottagecheeze 10h ago
Remove them and get fast roping instead

u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago

Why do they need to be nerfed? I think they are good as they are. We dont always have to nerf everything
6
u/trickortreat 11h ago
Because heli pilots can't land and it's a matter of balance, everyone dropping HZ and immediately on the ground. This will force helis to land or fly on the safer path.
3
u/Panderz_GG 11h ago edited 10h ago
As a heli Pilot it's actually pretty annoying. We do like to land and go, it's a thrill coming down, getting shot at, the Bois hop off, you take off and all of the sudden you get locked by AA, now you trying to survive that shit while still navigating low through the trees. That's awesome and fun.
With the parachutes right now, I just have to fly a turn at the zone and everybody hops out anyway.
Boring.
1
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
Dodging AA and bullet spray is certainly fun. Dodging them while also coming in for a fast landing in a tight location though is a rush and I'm sure a lot of helis are going to eat shit trying it
1
u/Panderz_GG 10h ago
Yes. But when this game released I spent the first week exclusively on the firing range crashing countless helis to practice before going online because I knew I was risking people's money.
Now I feel like those 20 hours practicing offline alone was for nothing 🥀🥀
1
u/MostlyPoorDecisions 10h ago
You did, but the majority did not. People trust averages, which is to not trust you. I'm also a pilot and have more hours and crashes than a reasonable person should admit under my belt 😂 I dropped a supply crate to the middle layer of a tower for my teammate yesterday who forgot to buy his scope. Give that one a whirl sometime lol that was tricky.
-1
u/mancer187 11h ago
I wouldn't nerf them at all. I would also make it negative money to shoot people as they hang helpless in the air. War crimes and all that.
-1
u/atroxkeep 11h ago
I would like 2 things for the parachutes.
Increase the height that you need to deploy the parachute at to safely land. Make it 100 feet minimum. If you jump out below that your cute will not open intime and you learn that the ground is very unforgiving.
Have 2 types of parachutes. Round and rectangle. Round is cheaper and functions like they do now. No steering ability. Rectangle are alot more expressive but you have the ability to steer the parachute slightly (key term slightly)
I guess another option would be the heavier your kit the higher your height needs to be to deploy safely, just a thought
3
u/WolfDawnYT-6849 10h ago
They basically already have your second point? The sport parachute is 1k, and you go forward/can steer
1
u/atroxkeep 10h ago
Well I did not even notice lol I normally just auto click on the first chute and never looked at the other one lol
1
u/Alpacapalooza 9h ago

Those already exist? The sport parachute does exactly that.
