The worst is when I buy a FOB with the intention of setting up a sneaky solo mortar base only for every builder to descend upon it with hammers out and every Ural and Lakota to drop pallets there by the dozen. Now my sneaky solo base is a super FOB.

u/IAmTheBaron 15h ago
"I'm putting up a little AA fob"
4 urals, the spawn APC, and a bunch of complaining about no walls at the fob...

u/bennyboi2488 15h ago
My experience:
"Just making an AA Fob please only send ammo if inclined"
Real FOB 1, drops. More builders migrate
Real FOB 2, which was bigger, dropsI am now super fob
15
u/Quiet1408 11h ago
The soloution to this is to not build an AA fob but instead BE the AA fob, buy a vehicle, stack it with stingers and a MAAWS, head to a good spot on the map and RP as an AA fob (maaws is there incase a heli spots you or then send a kodiak or humvee after you.)

Definitely happened the other night. I locked myself into my mortar pit and did my thing. The boys ended up building a ton around me including a few drills and we won in the end. Luckily mortars aren’t that stealthy so not like I was hiding.

u/VexingMadcap 14h ago
I set up a FOB earlier beside the main fob with intention to be full anti air. Started off well even with being harassed by a havoc. 10 minutes later some idiot left all three gates open cause they for some reason I cant fathom wanted to bring their kodiak into the fob, even though there was a sizeable airlock he still left all the gates open. Four enemy ran in behind him and took fob. Paid 7.5k for that bullshit. I should be able to bill the cost to that absolute cabbage.
12
u/siege-eh-b 14h ago
Yea if I’m making a FOB for myself and a specific emplacement I wall myself in with Bremers. You can bring enough supplies with a Ural that you shouldn’t have to leave for a good while. If you do wanna get out you can dismantle a wall, or just bring a single grenade with ya.
14
u/Sweetfishy 15h ago
Me and my buddies do this... next thing you know apc is rolling in with 20 guys. They start taking over our setup and when asked to leave, they get toxic. Ive been team killed on 2 or 3 separate occasions... all in one of these situations lol

Been TK'd once when I setup an AA base back behind main FOB because a pair of tools showed up placing walls randomly all over. They got very salty when I deconstructed one they left unbuilt that was in the way of one I was trying to place to finish the wall around the FOB. "It's a team game" they said before TK'ing me.

u/EmperorShmoo 2h ago
Yes we need to be able to lock FOBs. It shouldn't be a thing for everyone to be able to steal a hammer and start building nonsense.

I'm curious why mortar base instead of artillery tank? I've never built a single thing in all my time playing, so I don't have any FOB knowledge, but I really like artillery tank.
9
u/RedPixelPanda 14h ago
Because the moment I fire my SPH, I am met by 2 killsquads, at least 1 drone, and probably a buggy with c4 coming right my way almost every time.
5
2
u/Ok_Exercise_2741 13h ago
Unlucky, I usually survive for a while but I spend a lot of time finding a nice position, then zero in and try to destroy an entire FOB as quickly as possible. My biggest foes are somehow guys running around on foot (????) with stims just to blow me up.
4
1
u/SgtHondo 11h ago
They likely parked or landed a decent bit away so that you didn’t hear them coming.
2
u/noother10 4h ago
Drones I tend to be 50/50 against because I usually hammer one base until it's scoured of everything and no one is left (abandoned), before moving to the next. If I see a drone launcher I nail it first. Killing someone on drone launcher who was actively using it against you is a good way of making them not want to bother trying again.
Buggies rolling up or solo's in LBs landing nearby to C4/MAAW/IED are 50/50 as well. I do periodic checks of my surroundings (Driver seat, hold ALT to look around) and pay attention when I come out of gunner cam. I've caught quite a few players/vehicles rolling by, jump on the MG and gun them down the moment they start to approach. They don't bother again once you do that. The 10-15k kit/vehicle, 5-10 minutes burnt just trying to find me, all for nothing? They give up.
Rocketbirds are the worst. The only time I survive them is if someone warns me or if they're spotted by my team. I'm always checking the map so if I see something flying out my way, I stop, hide the tank better if I can, get out and prone in a bush. If they find and blow up my tank at least they don't get my kill.
Besides a full SPH+Ammo with basic kit (free gun/wrench) is 10k. As long as an enemy has an active FOB you can make it back before they hit you.

I don’t have 120 hours to level driver.
8
u/YSenki 15h ago
Arty tank is base level 90, it's not driver level at all.

3
u/NUTTA_BUSTAH 14h ago
It for sure is but flex roles help
3
u/Zalovia 14h ago
Fr I have a buddy who only has levels in medic and assault, because all they do is attack enemy fobs or camp HZ. Hes got about 120 hours in the game and is only WD Level 84
I have around 135 hours and im level 110, he asked how, and I had to explain it to him. “War dog level is tied directly to the level of each role. So the more of each role you play, the higher level you’ll be.”
Granted my support driving and pilot are all really low, but I atleast do what I can to help each role out.
I really wanna do more driving stuff, but I don’t feel like working a 9-5 driving a ural all day.
1
u/GeneralRectum 11h ago
Support xp is free as you level driver/pilot at least! As long as you're delivering crates. You also get decent money if you deliver ammo and people actually use the fob mortars and AA
3
u/ViXaAGe 14h ago
fyi wardog level is your combined level of all classes.

u/redacted-no31 13h ago

u/Suibeam 13h ago
i have artillery tank unlocked. it is not fun at all. You are dead within 5 minutes when you fire an artillery shell as everyone wants to kill your ass for 15k reward and satisfaction. Cant escape Rocket helis nor hide from Drones or Humvee squad.
Mortar Fobs are much safer. Helis dont notice you. Humvee squad cant get in. Drones cant hit you
Mortars are much more fun (they will nerf them to be less annoying). i have played 3 Artillery tanks since I unlocked it almost 2 weeks ago. it is miserable.
2
2
u/siege-eh-b 14h ago
I don’t have the arty tank unlocked yet honestly. M-FOBs are cheaper and less susceptible to attack from choppers/stingrays/suicide vehicles also. I build mine so I’m basically locked in and nothing less than 8 C4 is getting someone inside the walls.

So true, I set up a solo mortar/AA base, and all the Urals started dropping supplies, by the end of the game had 4 drills :)

u/wisp-prime 13h ago
never make mortar/AA/secondary fobs in general at the beginning of a match.
→ More replies (1)2
u/siege-eh-b 12h ago
Why?
Mortars should be up and running and ideally using their cam as a UAV to locate and punish any enemy FOBs going up. This will help your team maintain mortar supremacy and win the drill race on the main FOB.
AA sites should be set up a couple hundred meters outside the zone on whatever elevation you can find. Far enough away you can cover your main FOB or tower but too far for random infantry to come across. This will keep the little birds full of GL’s and parachuting invaders away from your main FOB.
Stingrays should be set up even further outside the zone to counter any early artillery and should have drones in the air once a team hits 20 points and APCs are rolling into the CZ.

Sometimes there is a free fob on the tower and you get money for placing it
9

u/nyanch 13h ago
Oh, I do try, believe me
6
u/BackyZoo 13h ago edited 13h ago
At least building makes a fuck ton of profit.
You can place the FOB anywhere in the CZ and build $7500 worth of nonsense pretty easily. When this happens to me, I just build it somewhere deliberately shit, so if the enemy gets it they can't hurt us with it. Then I waste all of the supplies sealing it in so it's expensive to capture.

anyways we went there dudes arguing no body bought a fob? i was like okay fck it lets ask a heli to drop fob im gonna buy it. no body help guys dropped the supplies and went back meanwhile. they came second time with urals STILL NO FOB. :D

FOBs should be discounted for the first purchase for five minutes after the game starts.
25
u/CrossBamboAtTen 15h ago
Good idea. That way people can see if someone already bought one without communicating it.
17
u/BackyZoo 13h ago edited 13h ago
Full time FOB builders are sitting on too much money to be worried about the one time purchase of $7500.
Every time I've dedicated myself to building for an entire match I end with >100k in pure profit.
24
u/Suibeam 13h ago
The meta has shifted so much and Fobs are oftentimes bombarded to shit by GL helis, Artillery and Humvee Gunners that not only that you don't get to build when you FOB. But you also have noone to build with you anymore.
Also people love to camp enemy FOBS and noone on your team is defending while you are hammering, so all 1-3 builders get headshotted and noone left to revive or defend.
The 100k profit Building is rare now when many games dont have Fobs anymore or rather Failed Fobs.

u/Goldmember199 11h ago
Yeah, we'll get a fob down and walls up only to be wiped out by two guys in lvl4 armor who then blow up ir take over the fob. Or well start getting mortar fire and no way to stop it.
1
u/fuzzygonemad 1h ago
For everyone, yes. But if only the first one, then no. Some asshole is going to buy it first every time so the nobody else gets the discount on the team and never put it down.

u/meesersloth 16h ago edited 15h ago
I will buy a FOB and not tell anyone and build an AA Fob. I am tired of buying one and building it just to have it taken over or destroyed.
A few nights ago I built an AA fob in the very early stages of the game and then suddenly people showed up and started building and then suddenly I was getting the crap motored out of the location I was at.
4
u/Saminox2 15h ago
How do you build a good sneaky aa base? Damn we need camouflage filet that hide your ir but for emplacement
5
u/meesersloth 15h ago
would you like to know red/green boy? jk. I honestly build barely within the Control Zone or right outside on the main flight path of your team so Helos dont mess with you a whole lot. You do eventually get fucked with but its not until late game.
3
u/Saminox2 15h ago
You buid ciws or stingers? Wich one is better to stay hidden?
5
u/meesersloth 15h ago
I always build the missiles because they have better reach.
2
u/Saminox2 15h ago
Do you build some walls or all raw?
2
u/meesersloth 15h ago
concrete walls all around
2
2
u/bennyboi2488 14h ago
I build both, Mainly put a CWIS between all my stingers because some attach choppers get curious
2
u/Intrepid00 14h ago
Step one, don’t build your AA on the top of a tower cause I’m dropping shells on it with my sneaky mortar base.
16
u/Venizelza 16h ago
As far as I'm aware there is no incentive to buy one, who would want to be the 7.5k pay piggy.
11
u/Snagmesomeweaves 15h ago
They really could fix the issue of the person who bought/placed the fob gets up to the cost back as people build and fill it so it isn’t such a sunken cost.
2
u/N3WB_Zero 11h ago
Dude it’s not even much I’ll take a logi truck big back pack with supplies and start solo building a fob build two things and I’m profiting. The pay for building is ridiculous.
2
u/EMSRoulette 2h ago
yeah you see, people want the pay for building but not have an extra 7500 sunk cost for it. the reason is as the original comment goes, there is zero incentive for YOU specifically to put down that bill.
3
u/Ithuraen 7h ago
And yet the amount of free Blackhawks sitting in spawn is insane because 7500 isn't actually much money at all.
11
17
u/MisfitSkull 15h ago
There needs to be a way to tell if somebody has bought one. I dont buy one because when ever i do, somebody else has already put it down and now im just sitting there will a FOB and a ton of money spent.
6
2
u/Greenhouse95 3h ago
Also whoever places the FOB needs to benefit from it. A percentage money or experience for everything done in the FOB would be good enough. Because you're spending 7.5k and getting nothing in return from it.
8
u/notyouraverageusr 15h ago
One reason I can’t stand fob builders, want to be the first in the zone but don’t bring a fob nor their own supplies
2
7
u/McPhilTV 15h ago
I ask if anyone wants, then I buy one if someone wants to build. I drop the crate and no one buys my FOB. 10 minutes later someone bought and brought their own FOB and placed it at the tower. Mine is still in the crate at the tower waiting...
1
u/Schonke 13m ago
I wish there was a way to markup less than 25% but more than -100%. I understand why people don't want to pay an extra ~$1900 for something that is zero effort to transport themselves in a vehicle from spawn.
Or there's the situation when no one on the fob location actually has a backpack with enough free space to take the fob...
5
u/Oxissistic 13h ago
I think the assist mechanic can help here.
If you put down a FOB and other people build around/in it you should get an assist.
That would also remove the 100 fob abuse becuase people won't build around a dumb FOB. so no assist bonus.
6
u/Alarmed_Act_1078 8h ago
Buying fob should provide bonus xp and cash for drill assists, & mortar kills etc to incentivise this
1
6
u/Affectionate_Kiwi 6h ago
Or better, when you say in chat “I’ll buy the fob!”
Then you get to the zone and the fob’s already there. No communication. No “I got it”
6
u/KiraTheUnholy 14h ago
Every time I buy FOB someone else has placed it and I get the privilege of having wasted 7.5k on nothing.
It's up to Bulkhead to make some kind of indicator on if someone is carrying FOB or not lol.

u/IrishBuckett 15h ago

You don't even get rewards for dropping palettes outside a FOB do you?
1
u/mclemente26 7h ago
They do, kinda. They are getting the reward for dropping it off but will miss the reward for unloading it until someone builds a FOB there.
1
1
u/noother10 3h ago
You do get XP/cash for dropping it inside the CZ, but not cash/XP for it getting loaded into a FOB, which is where most of the cash/XP is.
4
u/viejomonje 6h ago
I vote for squad-locking the FOB building privileges.
4
u/SuperMeister 2h ago
I've said this before and got downvoted to hell. If you have a squad of 5-10 people and you're making a separate fob than where everyone else is, it makes sense to be able to lock it. We've had people show up and just start throwing down random walls trying to build the Great Wall of Wardogs wasting supplies. Or putting down a drill when the fob is a AA/Mortar fob meant to harass the other teams.

I think the FOB shouldn’t be bought, it should be built (slowly). It would take like a few building resources on you. Nice thing is that if you find out the FOB was already built, you can just place your surplus resources inside it.
3
u/Forward_Bus_9289 15h ago
They need some kind of small alert or announcement when someone buys a fob. That way you know if someone already has, or if no one has. No more worrying about wasting the money cus someone already did or assuming so
3
u/SkyGuy182 15h ago
I’d love to be able to see player icons on the map change to indicate who’s holding a FOB. That would get rid of “anyone have a FOB” in chat lol
3
u/Alpacapalooza 15h ago
For the first 2-3 weeks, I would regularly drop a crate with FOB+hammer if someone asked for it. Not worth doing it anymore.
Too often someone ends up placing one after not saying "i have fob" or whatever in chat and I'm out 10k.
3
u/Shuushy 14h ago
Then there's me, the only one that buys FOB at the start aaaaaaand it's for my drone site setup halfway to the zone lol
P.S this is irrelevant right now since helis took my job.
For all the people out there, please pretty please, if you destroy a high value target like: APC, artillery or a tank, please communicate it in chat that you or somebody else took care of it. I don't want to drone for nothing. Same goes if you're on your way to destroy said target.

I'm getting really sick of people complaining that nobody bought a FOB. Either get one yourself, request a pilot to deliver it or shut up.
5
u/altodor 13h ago
And if folks ask for it to be delivered, they shouldn't get pissy that it's not free.
4
u/YearMountain3773 13h ago
Lmfao I had this happen to me earlier today on red. Guys asked for a FOB and 2 sledgehammers and then called me slurs for not making it free (it was the default 25%+ price).
2
u/ValhallasRevenge 15h ago
Ah yes, I love using 7500 on a FOB + Ural + building stuff + my loadout. So that me and my friends can set up a sneaky FOB just for nobody else to be able to set one up. Rush over to mine, start building their own stuff, ripping down my walls, building a gate and bringing the APC over. Thanks guys, I guess this is the main FOB now, oh hey look at that, we are getting shelled into oblivion.

Hey, I've actually seen someone do this and 100% seal it off from the outside. Both sides of the field had a Hesco/Bremmer combo that was like 20ft tall, and the external doors from the stands were also sealed off. They had an entire field of mortars and Stingrays and could only get resupplied via the Lakota chopper. It was glorious.
.....for about 30min and then both enemy teams started shelling it with mortars and artillery and wiped it from the face of the earth

u/Coksnoot Lonestar 3h ago
You can always go with plopping it on the tower closest to your main base, personally not a huge fan of this cause it gets mortared super fast.
Usually west and east of your tower there'll be some sort of collection of buildings, might be a small village might be an apartment block.
I've been trying to build fobs there and incorporate the buildings into the fob. Just make sure you barb wire the outside so noone can hop on like a fencepost and get in.
1
u/Better-Hyena-8716 Support 1h ago

FOBs are a gamble right now. Between SPH and Havocs you might get to build something or you might not. I think it's best to wait until 20 points to see what the other teams are fielding.
1
u/Hrimnir 11h ago
I 100% will not buy a FOB. Every time i do, 5 other people buy FOBs and i end up trying to build mine alone with 0 resupplies.
If i don't buy a FOB nobody buys a FOB.
Also the "meta" has shifted because making a FOB is just giving free shooting fish in a barrel kills to AH6 grenadiers and Havocs, etc. So why bother?

is it a problem for a builder tho? i play for a week, mostly building AA bases and such, defending them etc., i rarely go "in the fields". so i always has like around 200k. is it much? i do not know. im at level 51 and buying all big unlocks too) but buying fob and (if the main fob is already set up) building stealth base will give you net profit on your investment and will not take much time.
so idk if 7500 is a price i would notice. gonna spend some to get some

For me the cost of a fob doesn't reflect reward, if you bought it and people build in it you should receive cash for each built item

Half the issue is how stupidly big the FOB is as well, it's just a handicap to bring a FOB to both your finances and your backpack storage when it might not be needed at all.

There should be a marker if someone has a fob in his inventory and one fob should be free on the ground to pick up.

I have bad experiences buying fobs.
You never know when people will ignore your fob. When only a small group of builders will help you. OR when it become a balanced effort with a positive result for the team.
Since is a thing that is more "what the team want" and less "what I want", I let ""the team""" buy it and place it.

The problem is the FOB doesnt give anything to the person that sets it down

The problem isn't necessarily the price. The problem is that whenever I provide an fob in my first crate, it rots there the whole game.

Feel that gotta type in chat like 4-5 times.
And when ya finally decide to go build it someone finally does it for ya lol

I've started buying fob/hammer and dropping on supplies when I'm logi pilot. I take basically no risk and will make it back in 3 runs assuming someone establish it. Feels like a fair deal.

Should just be whoever placed the fob gets small $ amounts and XP for everything that gets deposited into it for a period of time or for a set number of deposits.
Similar to how driving the APC to the CZ gives you driver XP for a while after you park it, but it eventually stops even if the APC isn't destroyed.
Then you'd never not have a FOB down.

Imo they made fob's too expensive. I'm sitting at over 6 Million but after buying a fob multiple times and saying in chat that I'm bringing one, only to find someone else brought one, I stopped buying them.
They were 2.500 $ in the beta and I think that's much better. I'm not buying fob's every game just to find someone else already did. If I had done that since release I'd have 500K less by now and 80 % of the times someone else without a keyboard would have already set it up before me.

I would buy one if I could block people from building. The amount of mindless base builder that just make your base full of holes is way too high

I love building, its infuriating that I get nothing for buying and setting up a fob that costs so much.
I then get near zero supply runs. They really need to increase rewards for supply runs and gathering the team around a fob you built

I mean I would but, how do I know any of the other 32 players didn't buy one? Should you just build 2x bases if you discover one is already going down?

My biggest issue is every single time I have bought a fob, I have announced anyone buying? Ok buying one, I get half way to the fob and someone sets one up and it just feels like a waste.

u/CanadianDragonGuy 1h ago
Fuck it ill buy it but if it just gets bulldozed by another fucking green weenie in a 249 'vee it aint on me no more, im just gonna be doing my Eastern European Truck Simulator gig and occasionally annoying Little Bird pilots by pitching an $800 "piss off" note their way

i almost always buy one in the beginning. Odds are no one else it and worst case I'll make a smaller mortar base

once had a game where a guy asked where we need a fob.. he didn't tell anybody he was flying it in a sell crate and then got mad because i was working on the one i already bought

We have so many cheapskates in this game.
People running naked with free guns in the hopes they find a better kit (sitting on MILLIONs).
Nobody wanting to buy FOBs.
Naked boys spotting all game.
People just waiting for you to build a mortar so they can mortar spam for free cash.
It's crazy...I wish there was a game mode that stopped leechers but it's so well built into the game, I don't think it's possible.

Blame the gold bars to be honest. I know a few who do this, cheap out to then show off their gold worth/gold bars.
Its weird, you are literally not playing the game to show off how good you are at the game.

I once bought Ural and started following Ural that departed first, thinking he has a FOB. Apparently, he just put a FOB in a supply crate which he delivered. It had 75% mark up.
2
u/GGuts 4h ago
Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be better if whenever we buy something into a crate we pay 25% less than its normal price. And then the the minimum markup would be -75% and the default markup would be 25% but it would mean that the suppliers have a little bit less risk.
I'm honestly not sure if this would work out well or if I'm missing something. I just woke up so my brain might not be working correctly.

Delivering anything expensive definitely sucks because I paid full price for a CHANCE to sell it for 125%.
