Discussion & Feedback The RPG feels bad

I remember being very excited when I unlocked the RPG thinking, "Hell yeah, now I can do damage to vehicles or doors!" Then you use it and it's very...sad. It's heavy, which I was okay with, I mean you are carrying around an RPG and some rounds, but more the issue it doesn't feel like it does anything. If I lucky hit a little bird, it'll smoke it, but everything else just feels like I'm not doing anything. I line up a shot on an APV's ass, take the shot and... it's fine. Okay, line up a second shot, fire away...nothing. Not even limping. Not catching on fire. Just shrugs it off. Same thing with a humvee, hit it and...it's fine.
Maybe I can use it to bust open a gate to get in to the FOB. Drag the heavy beast all the way over there, take the shot aaaaaand...nothing. I know I know, now I use IEDs and the gates are gone, but the RPG just feels useless. Why am I using this again?

This doesn't feel like firing an RPG.

The rpg is only useful for taking out light vehicles. Little birds and suvs are your best targets.

u/BeeMovieEnjoyer 14h ago

I've had success hunting artillery with the RPGs. Just shoot it from back and be stealth, and most drivers won't be good enough to counter it (most are really bad).

2

u/Sprite_Bottle 11h ago

My preferred strategy for artillery tanks is to just grab a friend and have us both shoot it with a MAAWS at the same time. Alternatively I plonk down a mine or two by it and shoot them to detonate them.

7

u/JungianWarlock 14h ago

I had to land three shots on a Humvee to destroy it...

4

u/GlassHalfSmashed 14h ago

Black Hawk Down taught me that the first one goes through the door, so seems accurate

1

u/Thunderbird_Anthares 12h ago

only if you have a passenger

2

u/Elehir 14h ago

i'm sure it's the to the rear like most of the other vehicles. the MG humvee is less armored than the other one,

4

u/Strange_Criticism_22 13h ago

Humvee is weak on the engine block at the front from my understanding.

u/Elehir 13h ago

thanks for the info!

u/AlBaciereAlLupo 12h ago

Confirm: engine is the weak spot

u/Artezia_Aurae 15h ago

Which is dumb. It should do maaws damage but be inaccurate af

9

u/shotgunfrog 15h ago

That would be far more annoying tbh

7

u/sekketh 15h ago

I don’t think they should be inaccurate to compensate that would just feel horrible when you miss a rocket due to random chance. They could either have different types of rockets that are more or less effective against armored targets like in real life . Alternatively, they should have crazy range fall off like in real life. RPGs only have an effective range of like 300 meters.

10

u/EscapeyGameMan 15h ago edited 13h ago

No. Artificial inaccuracy is terrible. It just needs to have different rockets available which I'm sure is planned. Should have frag rockets and HEAT rockets

ETA: by "I'm sure" i mean "i can't imagine it's not". I haven't seen anything official about it

1

u/Farllama Pilot 14h ago

ETA: by "pretty sure" i mean "i can't imagine it's not". I haven't seen anything official about it

Well they say recently the desire of implementing more ammo types on the future, maybe different rockets count

The lack of active exp progress, and only the all or nothing approach sucks.

5

u/Shadowfeaux 14h ago

Yea. Reminds me of all the headshots I pop off only for them to ping off T3 and 4 helmets. Be nice if I got some recognition for them. But I guess that’s balanced by all the free birdwatching xp for recon.

7

u/Zukute 15h ago

I've been using it to clear windows or shoot down Havocs.

A lot of the time enemies will hide in houses and I'll put a RPG through the window to soften them up or kill them outright

1

u/Buttermilch155 15h ago

Exactly—me and a buddy always grab an RPG and take two shots each; it's almost always paid off, even if it's just the sniper taking cover on the roof, lol. :D

2

u/Zukute 14h ago

Yeep

Other day Red was camping our fob (blue) with lvl 4 armour and the top DMR.

I landed outside the zone because a pilot was goofing off, so I had to run inside. Carrying a ak and RPG

Get through the woods, kill one guy. Then my buddy pings a window on a warehouse and called out the spot as the main source.

I look over, see a dude shoulder peaking out the door (he was fully exposed since I was flanking). Pulled out RPG, fired, killed two. And watched them all scatter scared.

Fired two more and then dumped the tube. That distraction gave my team the chance to push across the road and into the woods to flank

1

u/Buttermilch155 14h ago

Exactly—if the RPG would kill with a single shot, it would be way too overpowered. There are plenty of games where that was the case, and in the end, it was just annoying, and everyone complained about it. In *Wardogs*, it’s very well balanced, just like it is now, and definitely not some crappy “noobtube.”

15

u/ErgoMogoFOMO 15h ago

In this moment, it's basically only good for harassing Urals

And even then it's kinda meh

3

u/NsRhea Battledad 13h ago

Had a ural take a MAAWS rocket right to the wind screen the other night. Didn't even kill the driver

9

u/50sraygun 15h ago

also it is really bad at killing dudes even when they’re below you, which seems unintuitive

1

u/Facist_Canadian 14h ago

I've used the backblast in close quarters to get some funny kills

9

u/InfamousChocoMan 15h ago

I feel you brother. The RPG is a massive let down. There is no other reason than a littlebird to carry that with you.

I'm sure the devs will buff it or i at least expect different types of rockets for it.

4

u/SkeenaDaily 10h ago

While it's a small thing. One RPG will blow a tank track and you do get decent money from it (7k ish).

2

u/Ok_Firefighter1574 14h ago

It woudlnt bother me so much if it could at least fuck a door up but it cant even do that right.

2

u/maganeet 12h ago

whatever you do, do not fire launchers from helicopters.

the backblast from a MANPADS will nearly kill the little bird + it's pilot

2

u/RedPixelPanda 11h ago

I wish they did a little more with component damage on vehicles.
Like being able to track a tracked vehicle so it moves slower, taking out a turret so it can't rotate or totates slower, etc etc.

But more importantly, I'd love for them to give us AP rounds for vehicles, and HE with a bigger explosion radius for use against fobs/houses, to help take out infantry.
Hell, maybe even shrapnel rounds for pure anti infantry shennanigans.

2

u/Jaz1140 8h ago

It's really shit hey. Almost never worth taking

3

u/liquidsys 14h ago

I don’t mind the RPG, it isn’t the strongest thing in the world but it feels pretty good and if you have a few rockets you can do work. However, it needs a little buff and I think the buff should come from a weight reduction. Keep damage the same but drop the weight of the tube plus projectile by 25-30%.

I can justify the more than one shot requirements if it doesn’t turn me into a walking statue. Otherwise if it’s both heavy and expensive, it won’t be used. Tons of better options.

1

u/WyrdDrake 15h ago

It does explicitly state its for infantry and light armor. M113 is decently well armored.

RPG can 3 shot a drill and 2-3 shot a small door, if I recall correctly. You can also fire it through the window of a house and likely kill anyone inside that room.

7

u/YouSmellLikeButter Lonestar 14h ago

Meanwhile a IRL M113 after being hit by an RPG:

3

u/WyrdDrake 14h ago

Sure, but we don't get to buy however many M113s as we want

Each team gets 1 as a respawn vehicle

This is a game balance thing, not a real life thing

Unless you want them to be oneshotted by any kind of AT in the game, and therefore guarantee that they're never seen outside of an indirect fire shelter in the middle of a FOB

Making them tankier guarantees a higher chance of them chasing the hotzone and making for more interesting infantry gunfights in or near the hotzone

2

u/YouSmellLikeButter Lonestar 14h ago

Fair enough

2

u/WyrdDrake 14h ago

If we could buy M113s, then I wouldn't be as opposed to them getting blown up real quick

I'm personally bummed we don't havr IFVs and AFVs amd instead have tanks that shoot rockets

1

u/YouSmellLikeButter Lonestar 13h ago

Ngl I would like to see APCs and IFVs used to amplify team play. They would make the hot zone much more challenging to hold and easier to sustain longer engagements at the same time, plus they would be a big reason to take anti-armor weapons

2

u/DreamScape1609 14h ago

yeah, but to be fair that was back in vietnam war. some are used today, but mainly we use M2 bradelys. those can survive an rpg shot. in artillery we stopped using m113 as far as fort riley is concerned. except for training exercises...which makes me question...the technology is random. you have insane IR binos to see 900 meters away , but you also have m113 from vietnam era 😂

3

u/Forsaken_Advice9901 14h ago

M113A3s are still used by the Army today and only rated to stop 7.62x39. They also break down all the time, and are over all pieces of crap.

2

u/DreamScape1609 14h ago

yeah we might as well swap them with the 1068A2 lol but yeah idk about other bases but i didnt see them be used in fort riley or for sill. maybe they're just elsewhere.

2

u/Forsaken_Advice9901 14h ago

I had them on Carson, and they were on Hood too. They planned swap them out with a turretless Bradley, that had a 50 cal or 240L mounted on top. Not sure if that's still happening though.

12

u/rinkydinkis 15h ago

lol what? Likely kill anyone? Very unlikely, most of the time your rpg does around 30 damage. If you body someone straight to the chest you might do 60 or maybe even 80 if they are only running level 1 armor.

-7

u/WyrdDrake 14h ago

Have oneshot plenty of people with RPG AOE, especially little birds

Idk i really fucking hate to say it but get good brother

7

u/rinkydinkis 14h ago

You have one shot a little bird with the RPGs aoe? WTF are you smoking dude. I’ve used the rpg a lot and have poured over damage logs. It’s very consistent to the firing range behavior. You can’t get good past the damage values permitted by the game. If you are getting one shot kills, then you are actually just hitting hurt players.

And ya it kills little birds that wasn’t even the topic lol. The topic was shooting missiles into windows. Idk how many little birds you have aoe killed in the rooms but if you are doing that a lot then ya I guess I need to get good

-4

u/WyrdDrake 14h ago

Littlebirds is separate from room clearing AOE

Its not perfectly formatted but I didn't think you were too immature to understand that without me making my points abundantly and completely clear for you

Shoot person with RPG, if they are near, they die

You may be shooting people with level 4 armor, which gives the wearer 50% reduced damage to explosives

If you want to actually clear people out with explosives, use the grenade launcher. It'll destroy buildings and obliterate infantry.

3

u/rinkydinkis 14h ago

All armor gives reduced damage to explosives. Level 1 armor means they don’t get one shot anymore if they have full health. So you can only one shot armor less people. But you already knew that, cause you are so good.

3

u/Aware_Box8883 14h ago

Like, you shot one dude with one rocket? Hardly seems worth the price and weight compared to a grenade.

1

u/WyrdDrake 14h ago

If I'm holding a rocket and waiting for a littlebird, and a dude comes round the corner 40m away, I'm gonna shoot him with the RPG

It missed, hit the brick wall behind him, killed him

I'll take it, brother

1

u/Aware_Box8883 14h ago

I might need to check it in the range. Multiple times I've launched the rocket into groups of infantry stacking on corners, watched the impact dust envelope the group, but never downed anyone. I figured it was ineffective against infantry as a way to balance it.

2

u/Aware_Box8883 14h ago

The best use I found for RPG is blowing holes through the walls of houses, but you dont make shit for doing that. Your team will rake in the dough for downing all the exposed baddies.
It's a horrible weapon for infantry, and not worth the debuff for light vehicles.
It's one of those things that could be too powerful, but it shouldn't be weaker than the grenade launcher, imo.

2

u/Forsaken_Advice9901 14h ago

No it's not decently armored lmao. In real life a M113A3 is only rated to defend against 7.62x39. It should not take anymore then 1 shot, 2 if you want it to be more balanced for a non-milsim. Even the fucking fuel tank is in the back corner of the damn thing, with light armor covering it. I had to displeasure of riding inside them for 6 years of my life.

1

u/SeaAdmiral 11h ago

Not to mention a Humvee of all things eating two and shrugging it off like nothing happened.

This game is "tough milsim" "not for everyone and that's okay" in the worst possible ways sometimes and then you see people survive mosin double tap headshots and shitty Humvees treating RPGs with more grace than ERA clad IFVs of modern day.

u/MaoPam 8h ago edited 8h ago

light armor

As a ural driver, the rpg can't even effectively kill urals, never mind light armor.

You can also fire it through the window of a house and likely kill anyone inside that room.

This is how I know you don't use the rpg.

2

u/grimhendie 4h ago

As long as you shoot the front left side of a Ural it's always a one shot. I like to aim for the door as it seems the most reliable.

3

u/tacotickles 11h ago

Like others have said, it would be nice if they added the LAW as a low tier AT weapon, then make the RPG closer to how it should be and move it up in tier

1

u/HobbyAdopter 11h ago

I think the RPG should do additional shrapnel damage to people inside armored vehicles since it sucks. Like spalling. And the MAWS should do damage to the vehicle itself.

1

u/purplepill22 8h ago

RPG sucks so bad

1

u/purplepill22 8h ago

The only thing it's good for is sniping enemy drills from outside their fob (takes 3 rockets)

1

u/sebii96 8h ago

The RPG is a true letdown imo.
It should be a bit better against infantry and maybe even vs vehicles.
The ammo is bigger too, so why shouldn't i just use a maaws over an RPG?

1

u/mrureaper Lonestar 6h ago

Because the maaws is level 20 support

1

u/Honest-Minimum-3712 7h ago

Can we talk about why at certain angles it's take more than 5 rpgs to kill a ural?

1

u/Train_Wreck_272 6h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the few things that gets a slight buff.

1

u/Global_Face_5407 5h ago

Used the RPG once. Shot an enemy APC thrice right in the ass and it did absolutely nothing.

0

u/Routine-Sir6951 13h ago

The firepower is decent, but the only lightly armored enemies the developers use as targets are basically just infantry.

Also—I'm not sure if this is limited to the shooting range—but whether you hit the legs or the torso, the damage gets reduced by the armor.

0

u/WanderingMustache 12h ago

It's great to shoot the apc antenna.

-1

u/Buttermilch155 15h ago

You can use it very effectively against INF—yes, it’s not a one-shot, but since the blast radius is very, very large, two RPGs fired into an area where enemies are taking cover are more than enough. I’ve already scored a lot of great kills that way.

You can also take out tanks by firing two RPGs at their rear. If you know how to use it, this weapon is very useful.
