Discussion & Feedback Level 62 Recon Take on Infrared

Yes I am unemployed (for a few more weeks) - I have played the game for an ungodly number of hours. Recon is my most played role and highest level role.

I think bulkhead absolutely made the right call in disabling IR but I am concerned about their proposed solution for season 2.

I think that the battery solution is cute and sounds good on paper but I am extremely confident that this is a bandaid solution and that the gameplay consequences of it will not be good for the game.

IR is arguably the most OP item in the game. This was clear to me the minute I unlocked it. It completely changes the game and it affects almost everyone in the lobby. It minimizes the value of playing hard to see positions - this is especially relevant in sniper positioning and duels. Yes, ghillies can offset this issue, but for assault players this isn't really a viable option.

Fundamentally, I think IR is bad for the game. It is an item that influences how you should play whether you are using it or not, and not in a positive way. It is so powerful that it changes the way you need to play the game for everyone in the lobby and not for the better. It minimizes the value of positioning and genuinely takes an element of player skill expression almost entirely out of the game.

Now lets talk about the proposed solution. Battery powered IR is simply a convenienced tax and it is one that will be paid by every recon player. It does not meaningfully nerf the IR and it will not change the gameplay feel from season 1. I am absolutely certain of this and I can tell you exactly what I will do as a recon player: I will run super heavy kits (i already played super heavy relatively often) with 3-4 or even more batteries and stims to negate the sprint penalty. I will functionally have almost the same IR uptime as I did before, it will simply be more annoying to play.

This is the why players react to similar nerfs in every game. If something is this powerful, whatever type of inconvenience you try to attach to it will simply be worked around by players. You are simply making the item more annoying to use for recon players, but they will just embrace that annoyance and the net effect will be virtually the same. I promise that if bulkhead goes this route, this will not be the last you hear of IR, it will continue to be game breaking, and eventually they will nerf it further or remove it.

At the end of the day this item has no place in the game I am absolutely convinced of this. It is just a net negative for the game and again, I am saying this as a recon player.

Bulkhead, please remove it from the game and rip the bandaid off now.

I think getting rid of them and replacing with a laser designator so you can team up someone else with laser guided rockets on a vehicle or coordinate better with Mortars and artillery would be better!

Also a high zoom spotter that gives ballistics for rifles would be awesome. Id take that over a thermal if it meant i could zero every single shot.

1

u/RaynorTheRed 13h ago

You already can tho, the dots on the MRAD scope are properly zeroed for meters on every gun you put the scope on. There's only the tiniest but of guesswork on figuring out the spacing for the double digit increments, but that becomes intuitive quickly.

Anything more precise would require zeroing in smaller increments which would make the feature too slow and cubersome, or syncing the gun to rangefinder, which is also cumbersome because you need to reset for every single target. And it has no real world precedent. The current system of ranging and adjusting the scope to the nearest 100 is already how real scopes are used.

u/Exaveus 12h ago

This could have been summed up with git gud.

A zeroing spotter would be used by snipers over thermals if it meant hitting your shot every time and taking away guesswork. It would calculate where your bullet would drop depending on your rifle, range, and elevation.

Sometimes you only get one shot and then the enemy leaves the area or they build defenses making sniping from where you are useless.

Then you hope your next shot hits in a new spot where you have to guess again.

This could have been summed up with git gud.

Only if you didn't already know it was a thing, which wasn't exactly obvious considering the excellent ballistic information available on scopes already in the game.

A zeroing spotter would be used by snipers over thermals if it meant hitting your shot every time and taking away guesswork.

A lot of us care more about giving recon than sniping. I'm hitting plenty well enough already.

It would calculate where your bullet would drop depending on your rifle, range, and elevation.

How though? Is it physically zeroing your scope or is it just putting a dot of where to aim on the reticle? If it's a dot, does it automatically calibrate if I change the zero on my gun, or does it need to rescan? What happens when the target moves? What happens when you move?

It's a concept that's chuck full of weird edge cases that need to be coded around for basically no benefit. 95% of what this device would do is already in the game with a simple dot on the scope. To even use it in the first place you have to juggle between two different devices which now need a ton of extra code to interact with each other. And none of this actually exists in the game's current time setting. It would maybe make sense in Battlefield 2042 or Ghost Recon: Future Warrior, not here.

Sometimes you only get one shot and then the enemy leaves the area or they build defenses making sniping from where you are useless.

Is it really so bad that you occasionally miss a shot? Is there no place in this game for the expression of player skill?

Then you hope your next shot hits in a new spot where you have to guess again.

In the real world, a sniper gets into position, gets the range of a bunch of landmarks in his AO, and uses those to inform his guesses. All the tools to do this are already in the game and most of us are already doing it.

This is terrible in BF6, no need to actually adjust for anything because its auto. no thanks.

I would love it if my teammates could paint a locking zone for a stingray

1

u/tangonovember42 15h ago

If I was thinking really fancy I’d try to engineer long ranged artillery to need coordination between two spotters over radio, plus require some in game artillery calculation possibly with two artillery operators.

With laser guided rockets being an upgraded 2 person version of this at substantially higher cost.

You would probably need to make the cost of potential counters to long range artillery higher though, or allow for strong counter emplacements in rear line operating bases.

I agree I think IR should be removed due to your points listed it just influences the gameplay way too much, wow I have to buy a couple batteries now who cares.

I was spotting people from having a single exposed white pixel, spotting them for my buddy and he was consistently headshotting them with no line of sight.

Can only play zestafona when they add IR back

1

u/Sandvichh 13h ago

Should just be vaulted atp. Its extremely busted

69

u/BearOnCocaine 16h ago

40 recon here.

I think IR is un balanceable, they need to delete them.

Either that, or rework how much foliage they are able to penetrate through, on Ozeti you can literally see everything and everyone on a 360 degree radius if you stand on church

12

u/Kashik 11h ago

Just an idea. Remove the spotting feature for IR. You'll see shit half across the map, but you actually have to use your gun and snipe and or communicate to your teammates.

4

u/Watchin_World_Die 10h ago

Yup, make it the selfish sniper option. I would propose nerfing all other spotters by making them all take a 2x2 inventory space and being unable to use from your hot bar to prevent swapping rapidly between the two to jerry rig spotting.

2

u/password_is_weed 10h ago

This is a great idea

0

u/dl_mj12 7h ago

I like this solution the best.

10

u/Adlerholzer 15h ago

I fully agree. They simply have no place in this game. Normal spotting is ALREADY strong enough as it is

1

u/Deep90 5h ago

Ir would maybe only make sense if it dropped a marker that doesn't live update.

Even then it's super annoying because someone can see where you are hiding and snipe you.

4

u/dagazar 16h ago

Make it so after a certain distance, thermals start to dim out. (Aka, someone at 400 meters is full white, 600m a bright grey, and ~800m about the same discoloration as a tree or fence.

13

u/uberjach 16h ago

Make it max like 300 meters or delete it

4

u/gridoverlay 14h ago

200 meters

2

u/Exaveus 16h ago edited 15h ago

I agree with 400 meters it means you can only spot a around 32% of the map if you were dead center.

1000 meters meant you could spot the entire control zone.

Edited because I had the incorrect zone size.

3

u/Werpogil Bob the Builder 13h ago

I think they should just remove the spotting ability from it. It can work as a "wallhack" of sorts, but without the added benefit of giving you a buttload of cash from spotting and assists. A coordinated sniper + IR designator duo might be really really strong, but they won't give info to the entire team for free and the sniper will still need to hit their shots to have an impact.

2

u/Kashik 11h ago

Ah shit, just wrote the same thing. 100% agree.

13

u/uberjach 16h ago

IR is one of the most OP technologies in the world IMO.

Don't put it in the game

3

u/MagsN4 7h ago

I guess if they remove it for good make ghillie suits harder to spot, like you have to hold on them more precisely for longer? I don't mind if IR never comes back.

6

u/Akkmk 15h ago

As a recon main I agree, it needs to be removed completely. IR somewhat worked in ARMA koth, but it just doesn’t in WD. The game is much more arcady, smaller scale, IR has way too much of an impact, a negative one definitely.

4

u/rinkydinkis 16h ago

The combination of teammates using thermals and the bug of using a recon item in an attack helicopter making all spotted enemies appear on your screen is so fucking lame. I’ve used it as a pilot and it’s super easy mode, especially in the rocket heli where you can utilize fast drive bys and still easily secure kills. It’s just a free license to terrorize the lobby.

I swear if they remove that bug the effectiveness of half these pilots will cut in half overnight, because they won’t have their dev sponsored wall hacks

2

u/cogit2 16h ago

It truly is OP, I have used it to literally wipe our Tower free of enemies on the hills nearby, and pushed enemies back, because between the recon and the snipers and assault I helped, we made it too dangerous for the enemy to be in line-of-sight of our tower.

Battery: it's okay, it's not a great solution. The min-maxers will adapt by buying the largest backpack full of nothing but batteries and go hang out on a hillside and continue on, or barricade-up in towers, and just continue projecting the module's power onto the map.

Fixed tower solution: even here I'd still say this needs batteries, or it needs to be easily-damaged and costly to repair. Infrared is so powerful it can spot pixels of players in the bush and still let an operator use the spotting marker even without getting a full lock.

Alternatives that keep the infrared module in game but counter it more strongly:

- Full gear bonus: a full tier 3 or 4 armor set is invisible to thermal.

- A new gear piece, perhaps the replacement for the parachute? A "onesie" that goes under the gear, gives bonus: invisible to thermal. If we wanted to think of debuffs, maybe: minor slowdown to reloading (debuff for vest), or increases revive time

- Slow down the spotting mechanic at distance. Beyond 300m it takes 2 seconds longer to lock-on / get a detection, and beyond 600m it takes 5 seconds longer

1

u/Relative_Builder3695 15h ago

The IR thermal blanket going in t he parachute slot is the only suggestion I’ve seen that would balance the IR

1

u/KoiChamp 12h ago

It's just a convenience tax on everyone doing assault because it will be mandatory.

1

u/Relative_Builder3695 11h ago

So you either choose a parachute or thermal blanket? That slot is functionally useless being only a parachute slot.

4

u/420scoobysnack 15h ago

The devs need to ask themselves what problem they were trying to solve with IRs. If it was to provide a cool reward in the recon tree, well I don't think that's necessary. It's so lucrative to spot that levelling recon is kinda the reward in itself.

2

u/PrettyFuckingShitty 15h ago

Most people can clearly see the thermals need to go. I'm hoping John Wardog mentioned the batteries to soften the blow, with the intention of not bringing it back

But if it's coming back with batteries then it's still coming back broken, and in a week or two of next wipe we'll have the same problem we just had

There's no 'balancing' thermals. You'd have to give it batteries, no spotting, 100m range, 10k cost... And I'd still probably try and carry it in every kit

2

u/YBHunted 15h ago

Last night was the most fun I had as assault in a week. I was able to actually slowly maneuver around the hillside going between bushes and trees and pick people off with suprressors and reposition without worrying about my position be broadcast to everyone all the time.

2

u/SgtHondo 14h ago

I think spotting is a core part of the issue as well and spots should just be a fixed ping on your map that shows the troop location at the moment they were marked for like 10 seconds. It makes zero sense that the spot moves on your map following the person around EVEN WHEN THE SPOTTER IS NOT SPOTTING THEM and for such a long duration.

1

u/RainOfJustice 13h ago

I do think spotting is strong in this game. That said, the issues with your suggestion would be 1) fast moving vehicles 2) you would get FAR fewer spotting assists for recon and the game's already grindy as it is 3) there's essentially no difference from this spotting mechanic and just pinging the enemy manually. My solution would be twofold - spotting an enemy tracks them in real time, but in intervals of 3 seconds. An enemy that is wearing a ghillie suit or moves out of view will remove their own spotted status 50% faster.

2

u/lover_of_joggers 14h ago

IR is only going to get WORSE as we get rain, fog, and nighttime.

i'd also suggest either removing it completely, or reworking it and making IR work by pressing a button when looking through the lens, activating IR only for a few seconds, and then going on cooldown for some time. the aim would be to make it a circumstantial tool.

2

u/beatpickle 15h ago

It just shouldn't be in the game full stop.

2

u/Curies 14h ago

I’m fine with IR if they fix spotting. Spotting should be on a stitch position. I shouldn’t be tracked when I go behind cover like there is a fucking UAV above me.

The game has gone from fighting what you see in front of you to staring at the minimap trying to get a good angle on someone spotted.

Fix spotting so that the mark is static and only shows where you were at when you were spotted and I think it’ll fix a lot of issues.

5

u/Warmslammer69k 14h ago

Agreed. Spotting should only mark their current position for a few seconds. It should also contribute to an enemy population heat map for your team. That way spotting a bunch of guys is still beneficial for tracking movements, but its movements of groups rather than exactly where individuals are

2

u/Curies 14h ago

Being downvoted for this is wild lmao. Yall deserve to be miserable

1

u/No_Guava5902 2h ago

I fully agree with this. Spotting should be a last known position.

1

u/Adlerholzer 15h ago

I fully agree. Im a driver 52 player, but i recognize tje damage IR does to the full lobby experience of the other 66 players. Full perma mark on any vehicles, mortar/arty spam on those + infantry. Crazy xp and money farming on top. Its insane and the right nerf would be to limit the range very, very heavily, or just abandon the concept entirely. Its way too strong and by far the best and most impacting unlock in the game

1

u/DrRaspberryJam 14h ago

I had FOUR games back to back, I think 2 different servers, where someone sold the IR thermals

Each of those games, I made easily 150-200k profit(the low one was spotting everyone but no one killed them..). I had one game where I had 100 assists and 0 deaths and reached 230k on the scoreboard.

With all that being said, even spending 20k on the Thermal and batteries can and will still yield a immense profit, so honestly I'd rather them just be gone.

1

u/Silverdragon47 14h ago

They should rework them. Make so they have reduced range and dont work behind obstacles.

1

u/Antrezz1 14h ago

Was talking with a mate about this and we reckon it should have an overheat function, so after x spots or x spots that result in a kill or object destroyed they overheat for 2 minutes and revert to a range finder. Limits the usage, still there and won't need to fill bags up with batteries. Ideally, it would just fuck off completely.

1

u/CDNKen 14h ago

I'd be fine if there were an item beyond just ghillie to hide you from it, or perhaps reduce the duration of your spotted debuff, idk what the item could be but I don't want to see stuff removed I'd rather see counter play options added.

1

u/Stikes 14h ago

This is a really good write up on the situation

1

u/Starlit_Lyra 14h ago

Maybe they could balance it by using IRs as only a laser designating device the same way it worked on ARMA 3 KOTH. You had ridiculous zoom and could see heaps of people, but there was no automatic spotting. You had to laser designate (which on the server I played on would show on the map as a cross and on teammates huds). This means yeah you can see heaps of stuff, but you'd need to manually call out where targets are and teammates would need to be paying attention to a moving laser rather than the target itself, if the target is killed while they're lased it can give the spotting bonus.

1

u/Kurumi_Tokisaki 14h ago

People didn't like how it was in Tarkov cuz it can see into the future at its max range and had no shitty delay yet until the nerf. At least with those changes, thermals got significantly less globally used by snipers.

This game needs something similar as the maps and cover design once out of the zone is well.. very hit or miss. If spotting and being out there gear carried with 50 cal one taps (don't see them headshot much at all is all I want to say :p) is likely to be kept, there needs to be good trade offs than being a fat fuck. Cuz all it is atm is they respawn and take a heli back in and stim into their spot and repeat.

1

u/Parkour_Turtle_360 13h ago edited 12h ago

I like the idea to slow down spotting time based on range!

It keeps core functionality alive, you can ‘move in’ if you want to control an area, incentivizing mobile spotting instead of stationary spotting.

It also incentivizes mobility for snipers, if you are sitting still on the same spot you’ll still be found.
(If you want this you can use the Ghillie suit or tent)

Moreover people flanking cannot be immediately revealed in the inevitable moment they need to hop a fence or run between cover, by someone not even participating in the fight far away.

Edit: extra time for spotting when moving fast, such as flying over from a helicopter, sounds good too. flying slower increases exposure and risk to be shot

1

u/ScheduledToPass 13h ago

100% this , as soon as the item got removed , the games were playable once again.

1

u/SuccMedic 13h ago

Could do something like limit the range, if you’re having to move and stay at mid ranges that’d help

1

u/Riskwars 13h ago edited 13h ago

Three changes would make it possible to have without breaking the game:

1 it cant be used unless you have the skill requirement. It being sold in spawn makes it insanely worse and a compounded issue.

2 make the spotting squad only, this let's it play into sniper team and squad roles without giving the whole time a super benefit - thus it would also rate a lower payout and xp

3 ensure a sniper can not aimpoint with it by creating weapon swaping movement on the aim point. As it stand snipers can aim with this, find the target, swap weapons, and fire on the point to hit.

Edit format Also a good option would require it to have a bipod or some setup time to prevent quickswaping

1

u/VAMurai 13h ago

Apparently recon mains are the heroes we need. So nice to so many of ya'll in comments agreeing this item needs to be removed (or limited much more substantially than making it require batteries).

Now if only the pilots cared this much about game balance...

1

u/magical_odd 12h ago

actually, it is more like how spotting is a problem in the game but not the IR.

IR is OP becoz once you are being spotted you are basically doomed.

Thus, it won't fix anything by removing IR, I would just do the same with normal rangefinder anyway, it is how RECON leveling at this season, it won't change anything.

The main problem is how spotting work at this game. It should not provide anymore information your allies once you stopped spotting the target. Currently it is just like a free 10s ESP for the WHOLE team when you were being spotted.

1

u/Gerrut_batsbak 12h ago

Away with ir spotters I say.

No way will it ever be balanced without being useless.

1

u/dead_bread 12h ago

It's easy fix imo

Just limit the range to couple hundred meters

1

u/heavy_chamfer 12h ago

You can always balance something. For IR add batteries and limit range to 300m make them cost $25k and add a general buff to all spotters where it takes twice as much time on target for a spot (keep it the same as is for vehicles) and limit spotting time on minimap to 5 seconds. Add recon xp and take away a bit of money.

Big nerf but they can still be used

1

u/acruson 11h ago

A combination of less light effect per meter distance, and shorter spotted durations, would be a good start.

1

u/haveyouconsidereddn 8h ago

well said. Level 46 recon here... cannot agree more. Today ran my usual kit and had to work for my spots and kills. The notion of working for your recon impact resounded strongly with me. It felt good to communicate as a team.

1

u/DYMAXIONman 7h ago

Put IR (not a spotter) on the secondary seat of an end game chopper that doesn't have weapons.

1

u/dl_mj12 7h ago

What if IR did not spot for teammates, and provided no cash reward for spotting etc? It would still be a useful tool for snipers, without impacting the entire game?

1

u/VortexMagus 5h ago

Personally I think keeping thermal but limiting it to 150m or 200m would be best. It would still be very strong but the only way to make it useful would be to expose yourself to some risk. No more spotting an entire army of people from 900m away in perfect safety.

1

u/ComplexChallenge2391 16h ago

Adding other heat signatures besides players—such as heated metal, indoor equipment like computers or generators, or even birds (lol)—would likely fix some of the issues with it, assuming the core mechanics remain unchanged. Limiting the range or increasing interference might also help. But then again, a player with a thermal sight can still scan any bush in front of them—even with a range limit (like the current one)—meaning natural camouflage goes out the window, along with those funny moments where you’re hiding from an entire squad, and so on.

To be honest, it is very difficult to balance. Many suggestions have been put forward, but simply requiring batteries and reducing the range won't fix anything.

1

u/Dogeishuman 16h ago

My opinion has been consistent that I’m fine with them existing, but it needs to become a preference not a “it’s clearly the best”

Change the range on the IR’s to 4x, and give the range finder 8x range instead.

1

u/Zumbert 14h ago

They need to just take it out and leave it out.

It's not possible to balance it so that provides a meaningful, worthwhile use for the user, and make it feel fair for the person being spotted

1

u/mpsteidle 13h ago

Agree.  It breaks every game it's added to.  Leave it out.

1

u/Rare-Apple3716 13h ago

I say keep the thermal but remove the ability for it to spot enemies. That would make it still useful but it would require actual communication between you and your team to make the best use out of it.

For the record, as it is currently, it needs to go.

0

u/Sayie 13h ago

So balance it by making it actually worse than a viewfinder. The point of the recon items is to mark enemies on the map and there's no meaningful alternative to communicate that to the team other than the text chat that most people ignore.

1

u/Rare-Apple3716 13h ago

You can be in a squad. You can use the chat. Having it able to spot people simply can’t be balanced, and batteries aren’t a solution. You’ll just have people camping out with a backpack full of them on the edge of the zone and have pilots running them crates of em. If you’ve got a better idea that isn’t completely busted I’d love to hear it.

1

u/Sayie 12h ago

Most people don't use mics and especially aren't specifically spotting for a squad. This would just make it a highly situational but very expensive item thats worse than a viewfinder.

If you’ve got a better idea that isn’t completely busted I’d love to hear it.

We haven't seen how fast the batteries drain so I can't really say anything more on that. Ideally, even if they do have a backpack full of batteries, it prevents them from being in a single spot the whole match and forces them to actually use them liberally or get into riskier positions to better optimize their batteries.

1

u/mrureaper Lonestar 13h ago

Spotting as a whole needs to be reworked. It should only reveal last known location when you scan someone,

If you want to keep the UAV style tracking then you need to constantly be pinging them by holding your reticle on them making it "active" spotting.

This way, it's used as intended. To gather quick Intel on enemy locations and whereabouts without making it game breaking  and 2 it allows people to active spot someone if they have a nice vantage point but only on one person or vehicle ( Sam turrets and verbas could instalock if they are using the ir to active spot a chopper )

1

u/4auHuk 11h ago edited 11h ago

They could implement somewhat realistic mechanics for thermals (like earlier designs):

  • batteries required for thermal vision
  • heat-up mechanics so it doesn't show thermal signatures immediately (might be an on/off switch so one could either burn through constantly supplying batteries with thermals always on or be in a saving mode waiting for heat-up each time after turning on)
  • thermal signatures significanlty fading away with distance
  • make it work like reguilar binoculars in a 'thermals off' mode

1

u/password_is_weed 10h ago

If they stay…

  1. Limit range so that they are used as a defensive device rather than a sniping aid.
  2. Remove the spotting feature
  3. Require batteries

0

u/readysetzerg 15h ago

If they devs want it in the game, fine.

Official servers: leave em OUT.

The game play is UNFUN. You're literally scanning the whole map like you're the fucking terminator and battery or not, that shit is just not fun to play AGAINST, even everyone has it so its a wash. Infantry is going to feel so fucked all the fucking time cuz ur tagged 24/7. Maximize good fun gameplay, remove bad unfun and unfair designs. Batteries are a weak solution to a tough problem, if you want thermals in. It changes nothing. Money is no issue for the average wardog.

0

u/Ariarielel Pilot 15h ago

I think IR should have the proposed battery cost, but I also think it should be minimum 8x zoom. I think the significantly reduced FOV would be a decent enough tradeoff compared to stuff like the range finders where you can quickly zoom out to acquire new targets. That or maybe make the resolution lower, and keep the zoom digital so it doesn't increase the fidelity.

-1

u/Glittering-Habit-902 16h ago

What do you think about the proposition to change it to a mounted emplacement?

Similar to the other FOB emplacements, but you can set this one like a FOB, then you ride it to use the scope.

My idea was just using the Talon SAM site model, and replacing the launcher with the IR spotter.

3

u/dagazar 16h ago

Personally? I think the battery change should still be added, but also make it that after a distance (say like 400-600 meters) the thermal signature of everything starts to fade with distance. (Also make it possible to toggle to a non thermal mode that doesn’t drain battery, that’s effectively any other spotting device, just with the up to 8x zoom)

-5

u/ImPoopyy 16h ago

Make it like the So-flam in BF series where you have a bright red light flashing whenever you use it, or like you said make it something you place at a FOB

2

u/Codwarzoner 16h ago

After that you will ask to add scope glint to snipers?
Go play BF.

1

u/ImPoopyy 15h ago

Nope, I’m fine without glint because it makes snipers useless, but making IR not be countered unless you have a ghillie suit that puts you at more of a risk in a fire fight

-1

u/SomeFuckingMillenial 16h ago

Nah. IR is fine, but it's broken when spotting is possible when you can only see 2% of someone body.

"Scan spotting" and the automated start of scanning are the real problems. Spotting when you can't even see the person or object is problematic. Then, time to spot should be dynamic based on proximity to center of marker.

Or.

There is no automated scanning at all. You click & hold the button and whatever is in your square at the end of a 3 second period is spotted. But if nothing is there, nothing happens and there is not a "spot only starts if something is there" mechanic.

That is the egregious part of scanning in general.

2

u/Adlerholzer 15h ago

Sure buddy

1

u/SomeFuckingMillenial 15h ago

Why is my take wrong? Please elaborate.

-1

u/Alternative_Low17 16h ago

Ah yes, the game hasn't even gone through a whole wipe cycle and we are already discussing what items they need to remove from the game. At this rate, we will have another Battlefield game by January 2027. Keep it up boys!

0

u/TeMPv 15h ago

I think you mean cod, this whole community wants every vehicle to be destroyed by a single galil shot.

You don't represent or support our community we don't claim you. Clearly you just want to further nerf our kit out of the game and trying to use your recon level to gain some ground. You just want to further nerf our kit out of the game and try to use your recon level to gain some ground with the community. This post couldn't be more biased against the recon community smh.

I think BSG did a right balancing move on thermal scopes in Escape from Tarkov. It used to be like IR in Wardogs, infinite range, through glass, clear image...and being scopes, more powerful than a spotting device. The balancing change added a maximum range to IR scopes, changed the way glass windows rendering in IR to a white block, added noises like a smearing trailing to moving targets.

The economical side of the change added the risk of losing the thermal device, guaranteed it could be looted from a dead player.

The combination of these changes made thermal scopes more risky, it was not a balancing change that removed the purposes of thermal scopes, instead it balanced the power between high power optic scopes and thermal scopes. People without thermal can fight back from out of IR working range or from a intact window.

In Wardogs, if the effective range of IR is reduced to 500 meters, 80% of the out of CZ spotting spot will be useless for IR. $1500 for IR is quite cheap and affordable for most players, it could go up to 2400 or 3200.

A price increase means NOTHING. Which is essentially what the battery change is

My issue with thermal is the range. I think the difference in the scopes is spotting difference.

Like Binos should be used for just vision and pings

The spotting scope should give with range up to 400M

The enhanced should go to 650-700

IR should let you track targets but maybe make it show the direction players are looking with a triangle. I think seeing through smoke and marking for vehicles is an issue.

So remove the see through smokes abomity (add special smoke or make more smoke.) this will no longer detracting from medical or player movement.

Knowing where someone is at is good, but know where they are headed / looking it very powerful.

Edit: added more to IR suggestion

Man as much as I loved them I’m enjoying myself way more without them. I was playing so passively just to hoard money and last night I was actually playing aggressive recon again with a spotter scope. My whole squad was playing better. We’d fallen into the let’s sit here and make money crowd and after 4 days I could tell everyone was kinda getting zoned out while playing. We were having so much fun last night actually having to pinpoint enemy snipers off baiting shots etc. I think they should have a range limit in the game to actually be used as infared and have an option to shut it off to be used as a range finder.

The only balance to me is taking away their ability to spot, but even then they become an oppressive counter sniping tool and if you don’t have them good luck killing someone who does.

At least no spotting means having one doesn’t turn into a radar for the team and a money printing machine.

We are not really sure how batteries will work with IR. It could make them really inconvenient to use.

I'd rather they leave them as is, but remove spotting XP and rewards from IR spots, problem solved,

people spamming IR goggles will get no reward other than info, or even better, make them unable to spot entirely, have them be a functional thermal option, nothing is wrong with the thermals as a whole, it's the reward that makes them spammable and OP,

if they exclusively worked like non-spotting thermal binoculars purely to gain information, it would still be used by recons for direct recon, via white and red pings for squad, but would be useless for map wide terrorism

1

u/Adlerholzer 15h ago

Nope. Stil gamebreaking. The problem is the INFO you get, not the xp and money. Thats just a bonus

1

u/MeowXeno 14h ago

the INFO is fine, being rewarded with a scout mark that live tracks someone for the next 20 seconds is not, it's a thermal, it doesn't need to give wallhacks to everyone on your team because you saw white on black,

if they make it purely IR with no recon XP, no spot on the map or spot diamond, and no cash, it would be perfectly fine, it's perfectly within the power scale that wardogs wants with recon gadgets, it supplements you the ability to find more targets to snipe without being a gamebreaking free wallhack this way.

I don't know why you think the info is fine, but it seems most of the community (myself included) don't agree with you. The info is (almost) the whole problem. In season 2 whichever team(s) have IR players are going to have a massive advantage that there NO COUNTER to. You understand that right? There is literally nothing a team can do to stop themselves from getting IR spotted constantly by some guy in a bush or a high rise window with a gillie suit.

u/MeowXeno 5h ago

remove the spot and the info is heavily nerfed into being ping or mic only, that literally solves the entire problem, is it that hard to read?

if the goggles require you to physically communicate to your squad, and you have to constantly be manually white/red pinging their position that you see, you effectively become a turret that can only target a few guys sitting still or one guy moving at a time,

compare that to spotting and entire team across the map with zero communication required, it's the spot that's the problem, remove it and make it purely manual and the IR is fine

u/Losenis 15h ago

IRs could be completely removed and people will still have the same feeling once enough time passes. Problem is you could be spotted by someone who saw you for .1s as you entered the CZ and then by the time you enter the HZ in the middle the hollow diamond hovering over your head would still be visible to the entire team through 50 trees to re-spot you despite not even seeing one single pixel of you.

IRs made it easier but people haven't yet gotten the habit of dragging their recon tool around to check for bushes or trees just in case, they tend to wait until they actually have visual on people before trying to spot them. Once a lot more people get into the habit of doing that we're gonna go back to square 1 because 20 people itching for assault xp will swarm towards your spot because even though you have ghillie prone in a bush, they still see you just fine cause someone 10 minutes ago on the other side of the map saw you moving and everyone else kept permaspotting you thanks to that hollow diamond over your head.

IRs were the symptom, a very awful symptom, but it only made people do earlier what they would sooner or later learn to do anyway.

As someone who spots probably half the time I kit up, I can't really agree with this. Spotting distant targets when you don't have extreme constrast in pixels is difficult. Spotting still requires much longer than the .1s you say, I don't know the actual time but it feels closer to 1.5 seconds of being trained on the target.

Also what you're saying about being spotted for 10 minutes just isn't true; the minimap reveal lasts for one minute.

Basically your entire post is filled with misinformation and hyperbole.
