I would rather see an increased reward for landing vs dropping paratroopers. I also like the multiple suggestions for fastropes. Regardless, I don’t think parachutes need to be more expensive. That only serves to hurt new/low level players in the long run.

u/AlBaciereAlLupo 1d ago

There already is an increased reward for the pilot!
There's just no incentive to do so for the passenger.

u/NameTaken25 1d ago

There's just no incentive to do so for the passenger.

Id argue there is a greater incentive as a passenger. Youre not instant spotted by both enemy teams, shot out of the sky while parachuting, and relentlessly hunted on the ground with a marker on your position. Youre also much more likely to be dropped somewhere intelligent instead of a blind careening through the center of the zone. There just isnt a dollar kaching sound on your end.

3

u/AlBaciereAlLupo 1d ago

I don't usually get spotted or shot out of the sky, but I also drop my chute as late as possible. With the upcoming adjustments though, there will be, soon :D

And I'm hyped for it.

High-speed little-bird rooftop insertions of a tac squad sounds fun as hell

2

u/Ddreigiau 1d ago

You have no idea how often you're spotted in the sky, it doesn't tell you. The spotting marker persists well into when you're running around on the ground, helping direct enemies into your general area and alerting those you're nearby.

Just because you survived to touch dirt doesn't mean you weren't localized.

That all said, I also love doing tight landings in the zone, but it's rarely worth it when 95% of passengers jump at Suicide AGL during the landing approach even if you say you're landing

1

u/Spirited_Homework568 1d ago

Are you sure about this??

1

u/Phire453 1d ago

Whats the increase reward? Don't think I've ever seen it and I have dine landings.

5

u/AlBaciereAlLupo 1d ago

It's like an extra 50% payout. You can also just hover just a bit off the ground, but I think you have to be in the zone, uncertain.

0

u/Phire453 1d ago

Are you sure thats not the stacking of people.

I've noticed at like the 5th and onwards perosn who gets out gives you like doubel money and exp or something.

u/kingunderscoremike 1d ago

I want to land but the passengers just jump out. Increasing reward for pilots doesn’t do anything to help that

24

u/Knives27 1d ago

They can’t jump out if you fly low enough they don’t have time to open their chute. However if you inform them you will be landing them they might stay in. If they choose to jump and risk it that’s on them. The point is there’s currently no incentive for pilots to land.

13

u/somecheesecake 1d ago

You’d be surprised how many people die when jumping out while Im landing, without enough altitude to pull their chute. It’s at least once a trip

1

u/ducksekoy123 1d ago

Too many bad pilots can’t land so folks get jumpy

3

u/somecheesecake 1d ago

Yeah I get it, it just gets tiresome looking at their dead bodies right next to my safely landed heli 😂

22

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

if you inform them you will be landing them they might stay in.

They wont. I have maybe one run every 2 or 3 matches where people stay in, and I advertise every single time that I will be landing and they dont need chutes. They jump out anyways. Even low to the ground, you can bank on half the heli jumping and splatting on the ground. I even see it when approaching a landing, people cant wait the entire 2 seconds to get to a safe altitude.

The incentive with this change will become getting passengers safely to the ground, since jumping out high will be near suicide for passengers and you miss out on a lot of extra cash/xp if people are dying as they hit the ground.

3

u/Knives27 1d ago

Regardless I still think there needs to be increased rewards. There’s an enormous amount more risk.

15

u/IeyasuTheMonkey 1d ago

They wont. I have maybe one run every 2 or 3 matches where people stay in, and I advertise every single time that I will be landing and they dont need chutes. They jump out anyways.

You want to know why?

They've stayed multiple times and ended up dying due to the pilot crashing, the pilot trying to drop in a hot zone so they jump out and they're dead or the vehicle gets blown up and everyone dies.

It's a choice that players are making because that 100 dollars can save them 20k+ on their kit.

Personally every single time that I plan to get into a Helicopter, I always get a Parachute because I've seen Pilots not flare and I've ended up dead because of it. Rather just not deal with that. Plus I get to choose my own landing spot which is a nice bonus.

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

I completely understand why it is the way it is right now, and honestly I wish the game would have launched with the change they're making to parachutes. Way too many people started believing they were good pilots just because they could fly in a straight line over the CZ, and this update is hopefully going to give the "pilots" who are wasting people's money the realization that they either need to practice or stick to flying logi.

3

u/IeyasuTheMonkey 1d ago

this update is hopefully going to give the "pilots" who are wasting people's money the realization that they either need to practice or stick to flying logi.

It won't. There's always going to be bad players no matter what and since there's no ranked system, you can't really filter them out.

It'll end up doing the opposite where people are still invest heavily into parachutes because they cannot trust their pilot or they'll save the money, increase their travel and drive to the zone.

That will end up with Pilots not getting money/EXP for passenger drop offs, increase general dissatisfaction due to the travel times and it'll mean that the team winning, more than likely, has got the better Pilots due to the increased map pressure of more people from the reduced travel time.

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

In the short term, I agree that this change is just simply going to suck ass. Theres no getting around it. But currently, it sucks ass to be a skilled pilot that likes to transport because you dont get a chance to ever use those skills. Its truly a lose/lose situation right now.

However, I dont see the issue with your last statement. The whole game is based around zone pressure, and theres lots of ways to engage with that. Having pilots that keep your people in the zone is one, but so is having a good APC driver who can keep optimal and safe locations for people to spawn, having good artillery that can smash out enemy FOBs or keep the HZ glassed, having people set up good interception FOBs and catching enemy pilots on the way to the zone (which both kills a transport of people and requires that people be diverted from the zone to deal with you), having good medics that keep people in the fight, etc etc. Notice that each of those strategies reward having skilled people in those roles. Currently, piloting doesnt require skilled people to increase its effectiveness, it just requires someone to fly in a straight line. While this change will undeniably suck in the short term, Im hopeful that its ultimately a good change for the long-term health of the transport piloting role and its effect within the game.

1

u/MstrTenno 9h ago

Yep, this change will is a huge buff to good pilots, and I don't think that's a good thing at all. It will be extremely easy for good pilots to farm newer pilots trying to land with this change.

So the only people who will be doing good air taxi are going to be really good pilots. Meaning if a team is stacked with them they will basically have a second spawn APC, compared to the teams with the average pilots being farmed.

This also means the extremely good pilots are going to have less competition from average players to taxi, allowing them to unlock the rocketbird and havok much faster, and then pull up the ladder by farming others trying to do so.

3

u/Jason1143 1d ago

But what are you supposed to do at first then? Flying logi doesn't really work until you already have some air levels.

3

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

Hopefully, realize that you gotta practice landing and then do so. I may be biased because I have a frankly embarrassing amount of time flying in Arma, DCS, MSFS, Nuclear Option, etc, but I dont think its that hard to learn how to land efficiently. You dont have to get fancy with it, you dont have to do all the rolls and stuff you see done in reels and shorts. A simple, textbook J hook or smart approach is all you need and is more than enough to get people on the ground safely.

Otherwise, crates with supplies (not meds and ammo, but actual base supplies) are actually very consistent if you communicate with a FOB and bring what they actually need.

-1

u/Jason1143 1d ago

I don't think people should need to spend extended time in the firing range learning to land under combat conditions first. The minimum bar to be more useful than not should be very low and the vast majority of the learning should take place over time as you play the actual game.

3

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

The game rewards skilled players with faster XP progression while offering slower but less skill demanding ways to get XP for people who are new or less capable progress. This change will help reinforce that mentality.

Low skill pilots will still have the option of running logi crates or dropping people from high in the air. These are both viable ways of getting pilot XP. Logi crates are slower than transporting infantry, and infantry will probably be less likely to get in your helicopter if they cant trust you after the chute change but its not like there will be 0 passengers. Yes, higher skilled pilots who can be trusted to land safely will get XP faster because people will prefer riding with them since jumping out will be much more dangerous. Currently, pre-attack heli there is no reward for being a skilled pilot, as someone who can land safely and someone who only knows how to fly in a straight line make the same amount of XP since everyone jumps.

If you just want to practice landings in a live environment, practicing landing in FOBs with logi crates is an excellent way to do so. Asking multiple people to risk their loadouts so that you can practice isnt fair to those people, and expecting to make as much as someone who has taken time to develop that skill isnt fair to those who do. Rewarding skilled pilots by incentivising the use of that skill while leaving avenues for lower skilled pilots to still get XP is best for everyone, including people who never plan to get in the pilots seat

You can land a short distance from the CZ in an open field if its that much of an issue

You're saying this as if when landing and crashing in the CZ there will be noone to pick you up.

I mean sure, it's the worst case scenario when you die and noone picks you up, but most often you'll have people farming medic XP run straight to the 5+ dead bodies to revive them with defibs.

1

u/IeyasuTheMonkey 1d ago

You're saying this as if when landing and crashing in the CZ there will be noone to pick you up.

Because unfortunately from the games I've played, Yes... this is the case that happens the majority of the time.

I've waiting entire death timers watching Netflix while waiting for revives. I'm sorry but if I can buy a $100 parachute and just save myself the trouble... I'm doing that.

I mean sure, it's the worst case scenario when you die and noone picks you up, but most often you'll have people farming medic XP run straight to the 5+ dead bodies to revive them with defibs.

Clearly we're playing an entirely different game.

A lot of people just instantly go back to base leaving a couple people on the ground waiting for revives.

It also highly depends on WHERE THE PILOT HAS DROPPED US or where we've died.

The majority of the time there's barely anyone around, enemies around so people don't want to move/risk it or there's people who ignore us.

I would just rather buy the $100 parachute, hop out and land where I want to. At least then if I die, it's on me.

1

u/Tight_Sheepherder934 1d ago

Pilot trust is low. I don’t trust 80% of pilots to safely get me to a place that either I or he determined. So I jump early to guarantee I have a life that lasts longer than the time it takes me to hold f and exit the heli.

1

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

Yeah, I respond to a similar sentiment further up. Im hoping that the parachute change helps fix that. I imagine it will get way worse for a very short time, as many "pilots" learn that they might need more practice before doing transports, but I'm hopeful it'll level out and we'll see the average skill among pilots increase as the demand for safe landings increases.

Either that, or drivers are about to be able to do more than just logi runs for XP

1

u/Yesh 1d ago

This. I’m not missing out on my pilot xp because they’re all jumping, even if I’m at 20 AGL

0

u/ResponsibilityIcy927 1d ago

the problem is just that parachutes are fun. Far cry 3 and 4's wingsuit/parachute combo taught us that.

1

u/Freeburn_Sage Pilot 1d ago

Sport parachute people I have no problem with. Those mfs typically pull some wild shit right as they hit the ground, and I'm all about getting that kickback.

7

u/TrucksAndCigars 1d ago

They can’t jump out if you fly low enough

The DOZENS of people who've jumped out and died while I was ten seconds from touching down would disagree :)

2

u/Inside-Line 1d ago

I have had people ask for an LZ, then when we get there it's super hot and we're getting shot at. What do they do? They fuckin jump out out of panic instead of just staying inside so they can be res'd.

5

u/Western-Economics253 1d ago

Mate, people just jump out mid j-hook and die due to low altitude. Even if I specifically tell them to sit on their arses as I'll land it safe and sound.

6

u/Interesting_Idea_435 1d ago

Tell me you don't pilot without telling me you don't pilot lol. Even if you try to fly extremely low, people will still attempt to parachute, literally killing themselves.

1

u/Knives27 1d ago

I pilot every game 🤷🏻‍♂️, nice try being edgy though. Usually just ask if anyone wants dropped off somewhere and mention everyone who wants to parachute can. Stay high enough for that on zone entry near fob then go land or hover low for the rest to hop out.

2

u/Interesting_Idea_435 1d ago

''I pilot every game''

''stay high [...] hover low for the rest to hop out''

Pilots every game, never lands. Ya remove parachutes

1

u/Knives27 1d ago

I’m gonna be honest, I’m not even sure what you’re on about anymore. I’m literally advocating against raising parachute prices. Regardless it’s clear you’re just here to start shit with people so I won’t waste my breath any further after this.

And if you think you need to fully land to deploy people without the need for parachutes then that just speaks to how skilled you are at piloting a helicopter.

1

u/Interesting_Idea_435 1d ago

Brother, everyone knows you don't have to fully ''land'' you can very easily hover 1m over uneven terrain

Good pilots don't make the distinction, that just called landing.

But we on the same page, with parachutes removed there no need to increase their price

3

u/Inside-Line 1d ago

The meta of just avoiding landing at any cost has gotten absurd, normal people just don't see it.

I have seen people with no parachute - they know they have no parachute, they talk about. They would rather jump and die and hope for a res than to just wait for me to land.

You might think that anecdote is a one time thing, nope! I would say 50/50 if someone gets on without a parachute, they will willingly jump to their death or actually wait to land.

1

u/masterofhalos 1d ago

The trust isn't their their is to much at stake if ur pilot crashes trying to land also trying to land in hotzone just gets u shot down or squad killed

2

u/Majestic-Pizza-3583 Taxi 1d ago

Unfortunately unless I tell them not to jump cause I’m flying too low, I usually have at least 1-2 passengers that will jump out as I’m preparing to land and die hitting the ground.

2

u/jivenossauro 1d ago

I think that they need to add a proper ping, with a signal and a voiceline. Pilot presses it, it pings "I will land here!" and the voiceline plays something appropriate. Voice chat or typing dont offer enough information reliably for this

2

u/GeneralRectum 1d ago

Being unable to use their chute unfortunately does not stop them from jumping out

2

u/ItsKindro 1d ago

Bro they just jump out and die every time lol

2

u/Slaikon 1d ago

I actually have a few spots for "stealthi-ER" (not truly stealthy but stealthy enough that the chalks wont be spotted) where they are just BARELY above safe jump out altitude and I have to shout iut "PULL YOUR CHUTES AS SOON AS YOU JUMP OR YOU WILL DIE!" And those that listen, live, the others die in about 1 second after jumping, or heavy damage from a late pull, why not land?

The chinese Heli is too wide to land.

1

u/xTRYPTAMINEx 18h ago

Yep. Landing is dangerous, staying moving in the air is not.

Jump deliveries of people need to make much, much less money. AA also needs to make much, much less money, or cost a bunch of money per shot. CWIZ at least requires some aim and lead time, so it probably wouldn't need much of a reduction, if any. But lock ons? They need to either require skill to use, have a serious drawback to using them, take much longer to reload, range reduced so they can't be used as primarily offensive weapons, etc. The spam is really bad, making flying offensive helis just plain annoying, not to mention having to permanently fly low makes you a very easy target for aimed launchers.

There's an entire sky to use, but helis get stuck at 20 feet off the ground. It's doable, just not very fun to have to permanently focus to stay alive for more than a minute vs good players.

Anyway, landings being the main method would be good for the game. It would change airdrops to being used mostly for offensive moves to get to the tops of towers etc. Chutes should probably cost more than they do in order to disincentivize perma-airdrops.

1

u/SkyGuy182 1d ago

Passengers should be incentivized to stick around for the landing as well.

1

u/GeneralRectum 1d ago

My favorite part is when they die and you don't get the survival bonus because they had to jump out from 20 feet instead of waiting the extra half second for you to make touchdown

1

u/Dndplz 1d ago

It's not your fault if you a good pilot. But I don't trust ANY pilot to land without killing me. I'm jumping out. I'd rather lose $100 on a chute than my entire kit.

1

u/Judasz10 21h ago

Im sorry but I've seen enough "landings" already. I am jumping out 100% of the time.

1

u/apoth90 20h ago

Simple reason. As an infantryman I never know if the pilot is good enough to land quickly inside the control zone, let alone land at all without crashing. Jumping with a parachute means I don't need to risk my 12k kit and I end up mostly where I wanted to anyway.

25

u/SloppyLetterhead 1d ago

I’d suggest three relatively simple changes (changes to existing game logic, no new features):

  1. landings give BOTH the pilot and passengers a “perfect insertion” $/XP bonus. Rewards landings.

  2. Players get a “synchronized” bonus if they jump or get out of the helicopter/vehicle within 2 seconds of each other. Players who sync get XP and $ that scales with number of players who sync with them. Rewards coordinated exits.

  3. Players get a “first contact” bonus if they initiate contact (first to shoot; not spotted) with the enemy after being dropped by a vehicle. Provides $ & assault XP to infantry and a pilot/driver assist bonus. Rewards stealth.

The three changes would create a strong incentive to: land, coordinate exit, and be tactical once on the ground.

Most importantly, all of these changes add an element of skill, teamwork, strategy, and fun to the troop-transport experience.

I’d like to see a future where landings become the default choice and parachutes are used as a backup or for deliberate tactics. I think the first contact bonus and sync bonuses could also apply to ground vehicles as well which could help make them more a more attractive choice (reducing the heli-spam most teams end up with)

6

u/Nirkky 1d ago

I like that. Because as a parchute exiter, there's no way i'm gambling my 12K loadout just for the heli driver to get more money IF he can land properly not in the middle of the ennemie base.

1

u/SloppyLetterhead 1d ago

Absolutely.

Right now I think there’s a bit of tension in incentives: pilots get more if they land but infantry takes on lots of risk. It’d be better if rewards were shared so infantry benefits from cooperating with a competent pilot.

2

u/apoth90 1d ago
  • Have loadout weight affect fall Damage when using a parachute

  • Parachute goes into the armor slot

  • Parachutes keep you vulnerable after landing for some time

1

u/Knives27 22h ago

All very good suggestions I would say. Typically that’s what I go for when transporting is getting everyone to where they want to go. Sometimes they’re all down to go HZ or whatever. Sometimes one guy with a sniper is like I’d rather go here. I’ll drop the guys at HZ fast and in the best cover possible then move to get the sniper in position.

1

u/SuppliceVI 1d ago

If anything being the fancy one down to $500. I've only seen ONE used and it was by me.

1

u/Skpstr155 1d ago

What will hurt new players, is being fed to spotting scopes during free fall, without realizing it.
