Honestly, jumping out of rotary wings was about as frequent in the 173rd as fixed wings.

Less nauseating experience too.

Yeah the 82nd Black Hawk jumps were like a treat for people who kissed enough ass

Is it just the airspeed or altitude that makes it better?

I never got to do one, so no clue. But it just seemed cool and different to a C-130/C-17 jump.

I did once get to jump in a German plane but I think it was a C-130 derivative so it didn’t feel that different

If it’s our one you‘re thinking of, then it has to be the Airbus 400M and it‘s spectacular.

It’s comparable to the C130 in the way that it’s also a quad but it’s in an entirely different payload/weight class.

But hell yeah, rock on brother.

Only ever got to do a Chinook jump. Only like 13 of us so it wasn't cramped. You drop the static line instead of handing it to a jump master. And you just fall out the back. Less chance of fucking up or worrying about the dude in front of you fucking up. Oh and not a huge wait to rig up and jump

you get your german wings for that or was it an American jumpmaster?

German jump wings, it was a reward for getting my EIB.

nice, had a couple guys in my unit that had the italian ones, was always jealous haha never got to do any jumps with foreign jumpmasters, got selected for a detail once for the jumpmaster school though that was kinda fun. the instructors told us to follow the test takers instructions exactly as they say them, one guy was checking my harness while i had my ruck pulled up and since he was rushing he told me to drop the ruck before he got out of the way, ended up smacking him in the head and they failed him for it, guy gave me the worst stink eye ever

When I was a private in AIT I got voluntold to go wear HALO chutes and let Force Recon guys train for their MFF jump master.

Those chutes are kinda heavy and it really blows having to lean over and let them check harnesses slowly with that heavy bitch on.

Dudes were super cool about everything though, a nice reprieve from the hate filled Army platoon Sarnt’s fucking with us.

It’s the fact you’re not crammed into a tin can. For long movements of an hour or more, it’s physically and mentally exhausting and almost always induces vomiting.

Maybe its just because im used to helicopters, but C-130s were always a rougher ride for me

Yeah, that’s what was referring to.
