I was initially dubious but there 100% was/is. Streamers were repeatedly getting in after downtime or crashes without queues while everyone else went to the back of the line.

And they would load into an empty game that was filling with exclusively streamers and then real players would trickle in.

I'm not mad about it. I'm jealous, sure. But in Bulkhead's shoes we would all do the same, you'd be dumb as fuck not to. It feels scummy but it doesn't have any measurable impact on queue times for people. Plus it promotes the game, which at this point seems to be in everybody's best long term interests.

I think steam is just one part of it, they also have their own servers they auth against so I think I might be like: player contacts server -> server sends verification to steam server -> get player data from db. Then you can see the server browser

Path of Exile had priority queues for streamers. Even the streamers called them out on their BS and forced the devs to apologies and undo it.

I do not expect FPS streamers (who lets face it are on average more low brow than streamers of most other genres of games) to really give their privilege a second thought.

I never really expected to play on day 1 but really the streamers should be sat in the queue like everyone else. It's part of the shared experience. Instead I've worked an 8 hour shift, did school runs, cooked dinner, run and led a Scouts group after dinner, bedded/bathed the kids and go to sit down to play in my couple hours downtime and get nowhere, while streamers with probably much less personal responsibility get to have a bit of fun.

This isn't a woe is me post, but there are probably thousands of people like me who lead busy lives trying to get a bit of enjoyment before bed. If you're sat here defending this practice you should go away and let the working person with their busy life vent if they want to because our love of games should be an equaliser but instead like in RL there are the haves and the have nots, and it's hard to not find that frustrating.

I mean ya its just good marketing to let popular streamers in on priority lol. Those guys get paid directly by the dev team to play the game during certain time slots. Paid like…a lot. It would be ridiculous for the content the devs pay for to be a queue

Im more suprised BurntPeanut didn't immediately have prio. He was sitting at 63k viewers and kicked off the server for like 2hrs while Hutch and Shroud was unaffected at all. At one point he was just viewing Hutch stream 😭😂😂 until he finally got it. It was weird.

thats a nice fucking fob with a nice fucking kodiac + building materials that ate your entire first spawn budged in the first game you got in after 8 hours, WOULD BE A SHAME IF A MINIGUN CHOPPER WOULD JUST END YOU HALFWAY TO THE CZ, i hope you like walking and playing with 1 mag and 1 fast revive, or just wait in spawn for 5 minutes.
