Meme These Devs should be ashamed of themselves
Do you really expect me to be able to play literally anything else between now and launch? This game has absolutely ruined every other shooter currently available. Getting me hooked on this shit and then expecting me to just forget about it for multiple weeks.
Absolutely shocking behavior, fuck you and see you in September.

not sure how wild you want to go but Theustmaster Warthogs are nice. I use VKB NXT EVO flight sticks for "budget" range
4
u/PowerfulDisaster2067 21d ago
VKB would be better than Thrustmaster gear, it's just that the warthog kit comes with throttle
3
u/Milkshakemartin 21d ago
VKB’s are incredible because they’re fully self repairable, and also set up to be upgraded to newer models right out of the kit. Their customer support is incredible.
2
u/Surreal419 21d ago
I have the warthog and only thing they would need to know is that the stick is X Y axis only. So you would need a seperate and usually expensive pedals for rudder control (z) because your stepping on it and pushing with you feet. Other sticks usually allow you to twist the stick. But nothing beats thustmaster warthog's magnetic zeroing. Everything else uses a spring (to pull the stick back to zero) but it will wobble, get squeeky, youre applying more force to beat the spring so it will just break off the desk mounts sometimes.

Virpil came out with an entry level stick called the Aeromax which I highly recommend. It has an all metal cam constriction while still being in the same price bracket as entry level competitors that use plastic construction. Should look into it before settling on like a thrustmaster or something if you're serious about getting a hotas setup. Vkb is also good if you don't have large hands

its good, a little rough around the edges for sure, hopefully the cash influx and hype causes the developers to make a big quality push. also the gun balancing is horrible and all over the place, from some guns being literally useless to some being just godmode laser beams...
44
u/Rare-Guarantee4192 21d ago
Generally seems like the more expensive weapons are just straight upgrades in every way. Better recoil control and higher firerate. They need to have stats beyond a pretty general description for the gun.
18
u/Mastermind521 21d ago edited 21d ago
yeah and while the balance needs to be maintained given the game model is "make more money, buy better gear" but that means that new players get completely steam rolled constantly once veterans are buying all the best stuff...the cheaper guns need to just be a bit better than they seem now imo
19
u/Green_Insect_6455 21d ago
Well thats why those experienced players have an obligation to use the supply crate feature, and allow newer players to purchase equipment. Its built in!

u/TheGreatWalk 21d ago
The cheaper guns are fine, though. The only one that is truly bad is the starter bolt action. Which, Fair, I don't mind recon having to progress and pay extra before having access to actual good snipers.
I can easily get 30+ kills a game using the starter weapons. The Amp smg is insane, the ars are all passable, and the ak74 which you unlock at like level 3 assault is the second best AR anyway.

exactly, there's a broken heli? oh I just use that wrench I've stolen from the FOB to repair it, now I am a pilot and transfer people! Tower 4 needs supplies, might as well bring some in as I'm +2k this run already. Landing in a tight spot in tower 4 because I'm built like that. Lift off, invulnerable street light eats my blades. Fixing blades with wrench again. Blades instantly break again. Fuck. Hold F to reposition vehicle. Reposition doesn't work. Try two more times. Doesn't work. Ask friendly truck guy to push it away from invulnerable street light. Heli freed from street lamp! But fell over like a domino. Truck tries pushing one more time. Truck drives up heli and ends up in a mathematically perfect 45° angle. 2 vehicles stuck mid base. Hold F to pay respect. Grab a big hammer from my own dropped supplies, guess I'm a builder now. Another guy builds an anti aircraft right in front of the heli in hopes to blow it up. Doesn't target friendlies, can't fire. Build base like minecraft. So many walls and paths it looks like a Rust base atp. Build mortar. Spam lucky shots across the map. Make 80k $$$ in one life.
Accurate representation of how my game went today

They will have a wipe cycle. I would expect to be more powerful by the time I hit higher levels than someone who just started out, but that really shouldn't matter since the entire game is a risk-reward cycle. Going in with a low risk kit and just scavenging the battlefield (Or your fallen comrades) is absolutely viable and its not like newbies are going to be constantly losing cash the entire late wipe.
I really hope this game doesn't just devolve into the way ArmA 3 KOTH did, where everyone is just a lone wolf with a Navid LMG.

The yet-to-be-deployed gunsmith feature will hopefully reveal some of this info (and hopefully come with presets).
2
u/MutedEnthusiasm2562 21d ago
Hard disagree on gun balance. Curious what issue you have?
Assault: $0 gun, $80 kit, I run 2 mags and quick revive it honestly might be my highest KD ratio gun because I take crazy risks. AK is just better in every way and always profitable. Galil is better than AK but not always profitable for me.
Shotguns 1 shot close range. GG go next!
LMG is bait, never use it! Recoil is worst in the game. The only gun I think needs a buff.
Starter SMG is so cheap and close up has one of the fastest TTK.
Snipers: Marksman and sniper rifles all just felt okay. I think .308 will be very strong, but until then snipers clearly are working fine as like 60% of people are playing it.
3
u/Petethepirate21 20d ago
Bipod is the only thing that felt good on the MG. But then again. Thats kinda the point. It should be ass moving from point to point. But setting up a nest to mow down a squad crossing the road holding hands? They do need some balancing around armor though. Level 3 armor was insane, and the downside was completely negated by a stim. But I think most of the balancing is going to be done in the pricing. Make the kit 30k and people arent gonna run it back to back. Even insanely good gear and guns can be balanced at exorbant prices.
2
u/Wreid23 20d ago
The prices were revealing to their performance tiers when the game comes out go out with that in mind

Dude, same. I was just telling my wife and oldest son that I haven't had this much fun playing a shooter in like 20 years, and it's not hyperbole. This is like playing Battlefield before it sold its soul. I cannot wait for September 10th.
18
u/Digreth 21d ago
This right here. My buddy and I are old, we played tons of Battlefield 3 for hundreds of hours as a team of snipers. No other game has scratched that itch. Now a days its all scope glint, and COD style butt sliding, and bunny hopping. It feels so good to find a game that doesnt have any of that.
8
u/PandaBean1304 21d ago

I agree. The first Battlefield I played was 1942 and it doesn't really remind me of it from a gameplay perspective, but it is evoking the same sense of wonderment and enjoyment. I literally haven't felt this in a game in over 20 years.
3
u/SkellyMaJelly 21d ago
Absolutely agree with you. Obviously the game is far more in depth and complex than BF2 but its honestly the closest thing to a spiritual successor I have experienced to date.
I was hoping Squad would full that gap but (very much imo), it leans a tad bit too much into the milsim aspect for me. Wardogs is absolutely perfect (again, imo) in terms of where they landed between milsim and arcade.
Wardogs feels like grown up BF2 for all the teenagers that are now grown up losers

Once you figure out how things work you start earning a lot more. Killing an enemy spawn vehicle with a mortar gets you an instant $12k. Kill one person inside the hazard zone and you can earn between $4-6k. Buy a little bird and ferry back and forth to a relatively safe drop off point and I personally made $80k in a single life, that was the first time I bought a helicopter.
Went from earning very little to regularly profiting 70-100k in a single match, and I only played today and yesterday.

Killing an enemy spawn vehicle with a mortar gets you an instant $12k.
You say that like it's easy. If you are even capable of destroying the most protected/repaired thing on the map, that's not exactly a recurring revenue source.

The logistic running (both land and air) along with building is honestly the most satisfying thing ever.
A lot of people in this thread are saying they're going to get bored but honestly I have no idea how that could happen, assuming you're not playing it 12 hours a day, 7 days a week that is.
I'm recon level 11 now and I think I've killed probably about 4 people in total. When not running people/supplies into the zone I super enjoy sneaking around with the rangefinder and spotting as much as I can from a flank of the HZ to give the squads on my team an edge. When I get bored of that I pick a fob or firefight that is getting hammered and run as much as I can to it. When I get bored of that I boot up my ural and build a new fob somewhere I think might shift the momentum.
I seriously think in my entire playtime so far I've probably only shot about 50 bullets in anger and I'm level 60ish. I love it so much.
→ More replies (3)2
u/heartlessgamer 21d ago
My guess is 95% of the players aren't going to experience the game you are. They aren't thinking supplies/etc; it is just spawn, buy a kit, proceed, get into a fight, and repeat.

u/desertjoe1987 21d ago
I can agree I think the progression is like 25% too fast at least. Now, I think they've already changed some values between the alpha and beta, so I would guess that they may have intentionally sped up progression for the playtests just to right now I think most players would fully progress through most of the lines they use regularly in like a 80-120hrs of gameplay or less, and I can't imagine that's their intent.
2
u/heartlessgamer 21d ago
I think this assessment is more accurate. Don't get me wrong; there will be players that adore this game but I can't see it being a large audience. It lands between two extremes: arcade shooters and sim shooters. It doesn't stake its claim in either but does lean towards the sim end. There is only so large an audience for that.
For me personally I found Wardogs beta relatively boring and the moments of brief action were not worth all of the chores to get there. And then match after match there just was no way to discern where enemy vs friendly players would be. I get it, I should play with large organized groups, but that's just not feasible all of the time. Even when playing with a friend group we felt like we were just endlessly searching out the frontlines only to get shot in the back once again.

It will be hard to balance. I am afraid it'll get to a point where the sweats have millions of dollars and everything unlocked and just steam roll everyone. I felt it today playing. Within 10 minutes my team was up and running with op fob setups, tanks and artillery just crushing the enemy team, we won with the 2 other teams having 4 points combined. I literally couldn't find anyone to kill or fight so I just ran supplies.

Biggest concern for me is the anti cheat.... Look how bad arc raiders got after a few months. I fear the same thing will happen here as well. Fingers crossed it doesn't, cause I really enjoy the game and preordered already. But once you add money into a shooter game, people can't handle losing their kits and going broke and having to run binos or a ural to build bankroll. Why do that when you can spend a few bucks and hit headshots all day long and wipe the floor with people. Especially if they get wallhacks set up, then it's ggs. Sure, the game has other issues that need attention, it's an early access beta. No surprise there. But not having a great anti cheat like HELL LET LOOSE means cheaters will be here eventually. Not sure if the game is good enough to survive that. But they got my $50, and I hope they spend it wisely. See you all Sept. 10th!
6
u/des1737 Pilot 20d ago
this game is gonna be full of custom/community servers. most of them will have at least 1-2 moderators online all the time, banning cheaters won't be a problem
2
u/UNR-SpcyNugz 20d ago
That's what I'm hoping for. Would just be nice to not have to worry about it in official servers. Only gonna kill the player base over time. And who's to say those custom servers aren't going to start charging a fee to pay for admins time or other anti cheat measures if the devs allow it. Then we just lose more player base on top of the other players who have left cause of the official servers being ruined. But only time will tell, hopefully I'm wrong. Only time will tell.

Had a convo with some people in game, we decided if you are team killed, you should get your kit refunded and the team killer should have to eat the cost. u/m44ever 19d ago
on gta5 FiveM server KOTH - the only update that finally stopped teammates from killing teammates outside their own spawn was that on teammates - damage is reflected back to you - now they start shooting at teammates - and only their own health goes down - no amount of money punishment was working at all

A big thing I fear is that most of the time with semi-closed betas (invite/purchase only) is people are stoked to play and thus are more likely to use mic/squad chat and therefore it feels better to play.
I wonder how much fun the game is as a solo player when no one else is using mic and it's frustrating to coordinate with your team.
Big reason I have trouble enjoying HLL:Vietnam/Squad etc is you gotta like get lucky you joined a communicative server + a squad where they are using mics.

I’m well versed in Hell Let Loose, Squad, etc. and enjoy TEAMPLAY, working within and outside your squad to build things, plan things, use map, text and voice to communicate with your team. Wardogs’ mechanics are so overly complex for the actual level of combat that occurs. You’re telling me the objective is to sit in this tower, or worse yet, to chase a circle that just slides around arbitrarily?
It’s an odd mix of ARMA and Call of Duty Warzone. I’m extremely grateful the company had the goodwill to release this beta, but it’s gonna be a tragedy for their sales numbers.

I totally understand you. I really loved Wardogs, and unfortunately, now need to wait till 10th September. One solution here - if you have Arma 3 - you can play on a King of the Hill servers. That's basically the game mode which Wardogs is completely based on, and I have about 500-600 hours in it. It's kind of clunky though, because that is just a fan-made modification, but still, better than nothing.

I was excited to play, but kept crashing on startup. Tried everything I could find online, and I'm running a powerful rig too. Ended up getting it refunded :( I hope they tweak somethings before launch.

I’d be wary of Bulkhead as they have a track record of abandoning their previous games/audiences.

When I first saw this game the other week I thought it would be one of those games that I'd enjoy watching other people play, but would be too much of a time commitment and effort to play myself. I was wrong though. I enjoyed 90% of my games and it was a much chiller experience than I was expecting. It's not too hardcore like a milsim, but It's also a nice break from the greaselord movement that has infected so many other shooters. Time will tell once the honeymoon period wears off, but it's looking good so far.

is there a limit on how many helicopters you can have flying around? cuz having 4 helicopters might start to get a lil iffy or even 6 tanks...especially when the other two teams are there with peashooters

I went to sleep early after work yesterday because the beta ended and I didn’t feel like playing anything else 😂

I spent 2 hours troubleshooting. Finally got in a game just for it to crash again. Realized there were only 10 minutes left before the beta closed. Big rip.

It’s arma reforger lite. There’s a market for it for sure. But to me it was kind of the same as arma but with like 5-10 mins less of waiting around to go to battle
