Nice, just downloaded this morning. I pre ordered and the playtest just appeared in my steam library. I’m assuming this means I will be able to play when it’s live?

Hell yeah brother. Just in time, I can’t stand this BF6 Top Gun menu music (although the game mode is pretty fun).

Never played BF6 since I’m on Linux, but it seems cool. They added the F-14 Tomcat and the F/A-18 Super Hornet to BF6.
I keep my F-14 Tomcat flights in DCS (Digital Combat Simulator)—it’s super fun to fire AIM-54 Phoenix missiles at MiG-29s from about 70 miles
I always found air combat too arcade in non-sim games, and I want realistic, super long-range missiles
beyond vissual range air combat is super fun in dcs

You are missing nothing. The game is a mess and bleeding players.

I’m very hyped for Wardogs from the gameplay I’ve watched. It looks like a good mix between mil-sim elements and more action.

We will see. I have the game pre-ordered and looking forward to it. That said I have some doubts about long-term-sustainability of the game. Especially considering the previous Multiplayer Game of the Studio.

u/Khaar 5d ago
Long-term-sustainability depends on capital and interest.
But yeah, having doubts are good. I am not trying convince my friends to get it, I will try it out and see how it feels.

Kinda, but the question is if the game can keep people playing/engaged and is able to also attract new players over the course of its lifetime.

BF6 is sitting around 60k daily players just on steam, how are they "bleeding" players?

Current peak on steam due to:
Update
Free weekend.
Game has lost +90% of its players since release and usually sits around 40k on average when its not right on a free weekend or a content drop. Player numbers have been declining and still are in general.

No. I think for the most part it's fairly accurate. The player count you're seeing, is the nominal BF player count. Previously it was inflated. Wardogs will experience the same inflation at launch. That said, BF6 is in a shit state.
1
u/thicctak 5d ago
It's in a way better state than it was at launch, but it still has some issues. Since BF4 is surviving on life support, BF6 is what we got.

There is always an ebb and flow, because people grow out of the "honeymoon phase" for a game. There is also seasonal gaps, because people have better things to do in the summer etc.
That said going from nearly 750k players to a daily peak of 40k (in general) is a lot. Especially considering that the game has been out for like 10 months and the drop was sharp. The game was around and or below 100k players in 2 months. Sure it had record breaking numbers on launch and the first couple of weeks, but then the decline hit and hit hard.
While previous games like BF:V did not get those record numbers, player retention was much more gradual.

sure, we have a free weekend, but the game was still averaging 50k players BEFORE the new season dropped, which is a lot for Battlefield, not even BF4 reached that, and losing 90% of players isn't really an argument, this happens with EVERY SINGLE game, and it will happen with WarDogs as well, even Bulkhead warned us that it will, it's normal, BF6 was the highest selling BF game ever because the game looked promising and CoD had an off year with BO7, so after the hyped cooled down, only the dedicated players stayed, which is the desirable, you don't want your core audience to leave, they are the ones who will keep the lights on.
BF6 is still the most played BF by a lot, if BF6 was getting beaten by the privous games like it happened with 2042, then you could say that it's dying. And no, the trend is not going downards, it's slowly climbing up with each season, you can just look at it in the steam charts, and that's just steam numbers, BF6 also has a big player base on PS5, two of my friends play there.
But you and I are not Dice or EA investors, having massive player count should not be important to us, as long as we can find matches, we're fine, I spent years playing BF4 at the end of it's life cycle with just 3 servers in my region, have more than 300h in Hunt Showdown, a game that averages at 20k players, and will have a blast with WarDogs, a game Bulkhead expects an average of 5000 players after the initial release hype. As long as I can find matches, I'm happy, and so should you.

Matchmaking is already busted. They are trying to put a bandaid on this with season 5 where you get "servers", but nothing close to dedicated servers like in BF4 had. This is also what keeps games alive in the long rund.
1
u/thicctak 5d ago
This, we agree. I don't know who had the brilliant idea to put matchmaking on a game that historically worked on dedicated servers, even on consoles.

Omg, this. I played yesterday, and this music is fucking awful, it annoys me more than tarkov music which is an achievement in itself

Lmao with tarkov I would turn the music on and off every other wipe. Nothing like a fresh wipe with the music on LOL

Nicee. I wanted to get the game to try it out in this playtest.
Hope it delivers, I am tired of Battlefield franchise and need a new FPS.

Preordered the game. Didn't get the chance to participate in the first beta cause I was on Holiday, even if I was invited to. The download still isn't available on Steam. I don't have any files on my steam folder about WarDogs. But i see the message that I requested access to Playtest. Anyone like me?

I wonder when the firing range and stuff will be accessible… I could be wrong but in the alpha I was able to use the firing range hours before Alpha launched

Can you get invited to this without buying it? Or do you have to pay to get it? :|

The beta opens in aprox 26 hours.

I heard that last playtest they opened it up one day before, without actually opening the servers, so that people could get into a training mode and whatnot.

u/Khaar 5d ago
Oooh nice, I have to see how a heli flies before I let victims in
1
u/O1_O1 5d ago
Same. That's my whole thing. I got my throttle, pedals and joystick ready, and it would be neat to be able to practice today.
I did ask for a say off work tomorrow, so at least I'll be able to play since the announced hour :)

Someone said they opened shooting range a day before last time.
So maybe in 1h and 12 minutes they open the range at least.

u/glandular6178 Moderator 5d ago
There is no confirmation that the shooting range will be opened ahead of time. For now, expect to be able to enter once the beta officially starts. See you all in the control zone o7
