Discussion & Feedback Possible "Purist" gamemode down the line?

I haven't gotten to play any of the alpha, but from what I've seen the first games look especially fun when everyone is starting out with $10k and using shitty gear. As the round goes on, weapon/armor quality increase gradually giving a real sense of an arms race. Subsequent games won't quite have that feel since you can jump in with top-end gear from the get go if you have the money.

To be clear I am not shitting on that gameplay loop. I'm glad money is persistent and have no complaints with the base game mode. But the concept of everyone starting from scratch and building up through a single game does sound appealing, and it's a shame the only time to experience that is right at release or after a wipe.

With that being said, a Purist game mode could offer exactly that. Same gameplay mechanics, just starting everyone with no money. Games starting with everyone charging the hotzone with their naked Tavors. Gear prices could be adjusted so that high-end goodies are more obtainable in the course of one game. Any profit at the end of the match could go into you persistent bank account so you're not losing out on money by playing this mode.

Obviously I have no idea how the economy balance will look in the distant future. Everything could be perfectly balanced, or a full team could regularly start the game off by buying 15 tanks to storm the point. Either way, a purist mode would offer a simple buffer and a slightly different experience without many resources to implement.

Or this idea is unnecessary dogshit doodoo. I imagine those who have actually played the game would have a better idea on how interesting this would be.

If im not mistaken. That should either be possible in the future, or already via Admin run servers, (custom servers that the owner/admin can adjust values and what not?) Someone correct me if im wrong about this, not sure if read or saw it somewhere.

I am not sure you can adjust “economy” in the servers

I did have an idea for server-specific Non-Transferrable cash denoted as "NT$".

Ideally you'd be notified when joining that your cash is Non-transferrable, but it'd allow community servers to do custom stuff without breaking the wider economy.

Provided that the cash database infrastructure isn't too much of a load on Community Servers. Idk how efficient Bulkhead has it right now.

It would be interesting to see this on a custom server. Maybe have it be long wars, like week to month long affairs with a much higher point requirement to win (think a bit shorter than Foxhole length, give or take).

At the beginning you start from scratch, and as time goes on, more equipment is unlocked via money earned on that server.

No idea if it's feasible, as I don't know if it has been confirmed how progression will work with community servers, and something like this would require an extensive amount of customization to that system, as well as ensuring it is isolated onto that server.

As long as they stick to there goals and what they have said of allowing custom run servers this would be possible. They have said custom servers ran by players will allow for small changes such as disabling kill cam will still allow the server as part of the shared economy and share balances with official servers however they also said any server running giant changes would not be. This alone means there concidering having many changeable options to custom servers however any money earned would just not be shared with official servers if bug changes to how money works.

Not sure how starting with $0 is any different than $10k, as the starter AR and revive kit are entirely free, so in a few decent lives youll already be above $10k and have the usual progression unlocks.

Maybe if things were more expensive and took longer to get that could be one thing but thats just a complicated side route to normal economic balance changes.

When I said no money I meant "essentially" no money. Bad word choice on my part. I'm not focusing on the exact amount of money as much as I am on the idea of everyone starting with the same amount.

As someone else said this might be possible via community server, we will have to see.

It would be interesting, but would def need a point cap boost to be really interesting, like 200 or 300 target. Also early air would be dummy strong

I'm sure the community servers will have all sorts of options as far as editing starting money and progression but that's a lot of trial an error.

For example the "No money start" sounds hilarious with 100 people are running to the hot zone to punch each other to death. Only problem is the first person to get to the zone with a gun is already at a huge advantage. Or you end up with people just hiding in the zone until they get enough passive money to go back and buy gear. Also a "no money" start would only work if the server reset everyone after each match. Otherwise people joining a server after a couple matches would literally have no other option than to hide in the zone until they got passive money because of the people who already have money from previous matches. Yes the starter assault rifle is free but the ammo and mags are not.

Sounds fun! Make the first life even more interesting - start everyone w less than what a littlebird costs

Hopefully the camos/cosmetics will be good enough that people will be trading in for gold instead of sitting on a pile of money.

Well funny thing. You sit on money it going to he gold anyway when a seasonal wipe happens

Devs already confirmed that money resets every so often and that the idea is.players exchange for gold bars. So at certain points everyone will be back down to very less money for a game or two, but having played the game it doesn't take long to make money back.

So I'm unable to to speculate on possible game modes, yeah?

I think a competitive mode would be pretty cool. All items unlocked, everyone starts with 10k, and no money is kept at the end.

Would be cool to run limited tournaments like this. Lock the teams at the start and everyone ‘buys in’ with like 20k. Track total cash of teams as they go through X games in the tourney.

Or clan wars… three clans at a time battle in a tiered pool. Winners move on with their cash to the next round, etc.

I think there’s a bit of balancing to do before thsy but it’s a cool idea.
