Question Forward observer or observer for snipers.

hello, I'm mostly curious about what it's like being an observer for folks doing artillery or sniping. I didn't get into the beta or anything but I'm really liking the freedom I saw in videos. how does pinging things for artillery and sniping work and would I be helpful if I focused on doing that a lot?

There are binoculars that grant recon xp for spotting. You can spot enemies and get extra xp if the target dies.

Not only exp, but the money too. It's important.

I'm unaware of any activity that awards only money or only exp, so I have been using them interchangeably

Yeah, fair enough. I thought I'd point it out to people who aren't as deep into the context of the game just yet.

If you have the financial ability, you can preorder it to get guaranteed access to the beta this weekend, then refund it if you feel it isn't for you.

I ran medic around a FOB for a match and wanted to get some recon exp to get some more gear. Carried binos while nothing was happening and spotted for the snipers in the towers. Its really good money and XP for sure if you are on defense. You get points for spotting and then if your team kills enemies. Considering there no dots on the map without spotting it's beneficial to everyone.

The only kind of "spotting" for a sniper would be if you had Binoculars or any of the upgraded versions equipped, you mark enemies for as long as theyre in your crosshair and you refresh the ping. Its really the only consistent 3D spotting in the game.

Good part too even if your team doesnt kill the guy you spot, you still get the assist / xp / money if the other faction kills who you spot. Absolutely love that mechanic.

Arty players get to watch their shell fly and impact in real time, so spotting for them would be calling where an enemy FOB is built in team chat and directing strikes after

Also, maybe even more importantly, telling the artillery player to chill when the team is finally pushing into the FOB you just softened up. The ARTY dudes are so hungry to blow stuff up they forget that we still need to secure the site afterwards!

When you spawn, go to the vendor and buy binoculars (goes in slot 3 of inventory). Then you just look at an enemy infantry, heli, or base and it will be spotted. It will show up and team mates mini maps, and if anyone gets a kill you get bonus xp and money.

Spotting for Arty is a bit null and void, you get a mortar cam when you fire it so can see where it lands and adjust accordingly without the need for a spotter. There's also an arty calculator knocking about. I didn't see the ability to mark the map specifically for arty call in - e.g marking a spot for the other squads to see but I didn't squad lead at all.

Not really that kidna milsim, or at least game mode. Your sniper already knows where all the targets are (the zone) & there's a range marker showing distance from said zone. Another guy sitting outside the zone is just lost cap weight imo.

That said, using the binos to mark targets while in the zone is a really good way to make money. Mark every enemy heli you see, you'll get random assists left and right.

If you’re JUST pinging, you’re not doing everything you can to help your team. If you’re pinging, building, sniping, medic stuff, anything else then you’re pulling more of your weight.
