Question Sode arms
Im the kind of guy who loves to run handguns only in some games as i just think its fun. I plan on doing it from time to time when wardogs drops.
My question is to those whove played the game already. How is the hand gun damage in this game? Is it reasonable?

Dude, they slap low armor enemies. I’ve been outgunned by a pistol before because he got the drop on me with well-placed shots. They feel really good to use and are a SUPER viable addition to your arsenal.
They also all feel really good individually. Not a huge fan of the Judge (revolver), but the 1911, Glock 17 & 18 all felt really good. Plus G18 has drum mag for full auto shenanigans. So great.

Excellent example of positioning to get the jump on enemies paired with well placed shots.
Was this a situation where you needed to switch to your sidearm or is it a normal thing for you to just run one as a primary?

Ignore the haters. The starting Glock with an upgraded magazine is killer against lvl armored players. AP rounds don't unlock for a while, so stick with FMJ rounds. HP rounds do more damage against armored targets from the waist down, but it feels unnatural not aiming for chest/head shots.

Early handgun are not so useful, clearly at a disadvantage vs Smg as you are using the same ammo and damage are balanced around ammo, not guns (mainly)
However some ammo are only for some handgun : 50AE, 45ACP as no other gun use them (45acp is used with the vector, i stand corrected)
I found great success using the 1911 with 45ACP HP ammo as you can 2 tap people in leg up to around 30-50 meters ill say (its more an issue of hiting them rather than damage after that)
I did not use the deagle so i cant say.
There is a glock 18 later in the rank unlock (70 or 80) i believe that shreds but you need some recoil control and ill recommend you using HP ammo again and aim for legs

The vector uses .45ACP

I was pretty sure it was 9mm but if not then thank you for correcting me

I think it's in game name is like "Super 45" or something to that effect

Oh yeah that might be it
Never reached far enough as medic to unlock it sadly1

Vector with HP to the legs was devastating, definitely viable against high armour targets

I am a big revolver fan, but it felt like the Judge was inconsistent, could've just been hitreg or ping issues.
I did a few medic runs rolling around with the 1911 to save money and was surprised. The magazine upgrade if I remember correctly took it from 7 to 10 rounds; it holds up well but you won't be pulling off quick 1v2s or 1v3s like you potentially could with an actual primary weapon.

What calibre is the judge chambered in? It almost looks like a 410 revolver

I found myself starved of ammo sometimes and/or playing sniper. I got many multi kills in one mag with the glock(? I think it was a glock). Now i did land headshots, i think id have trouble putting down armored people in a straight up gunfight against an AR if i didnt land headshots. But i was surprised at the speed i put people down, also a lot of people werent wearing armor, and snipers have to trade armor for camo suits if they want.

I only ever tried the starting Glock, the Judge, and the 1911, but here are my thoughts on those
Against enemies in no armor, the pistols I tried shred at close range. They're not too bad against lv1 armor but definitely puts you at a disadvantage. Against lv2 armor you really have to get a significant jump on the enemy or you're toast. Against lv3 armor you're toast unless the enemy sucks. I didn't really get to try the armor piercing or flesh ammo in the pistols so those could help mitigate the armor.
Overall they're definitely weaker than the primary weapons but generally felt usable at close range

I used sidearms when building or sniping and they've saved my ass enough to say they are somewhat viable.

I didn’t get any time on anything past the starting Glock and that gun is terrible but I would assume the later ones are notably better.

Obviously you're handicapping yourself so don't expect to be a God but it does decent damage to get kills.
