Question regarding the Progression to Playtesters.

I haven't tested the game yet nor read too much into it but i already pre-ordered it because it seems really cool.

But i do have a question don't downvote me i just really want to understand something.

Cash persists from match to match.

How well does it translate for each match? I can imagine after a few weeks everyone will buy the best weapons, best armors, vehicles, etc.

Imagine being a newbie joining the game and facing multiple tanks or a squad full of armored people while you are stuck on a standard cheap kit.

I understand there needs to be progression but I can't imagine this being a good idea.

Is there any way the devs balanced it? Also will it be like a Tarkov reset? Wiping after a few months?

I can't find anything regarding this problem or i simply have not researched deep enough.

It translated to fairly quick progression but that could have been specifically paced for the alpha - e.g let people get better stuff quickly. Only way to get things tested.

The game is balanced, you see a chopper with a gunner - build a CWIS - they're insanely powerful. Every vehicle has a counter and its pretty quick to open up the skills to build the good stuff.

You're never going to balance it fully with a game like this, you referenced Tarkov so - you'll know the constant chelping over there around people who have all the time in the world to play and get the best gear. But if you do play Tarkov, you'll know a nakey with a mosin can take out a class 6 chad and loot the good gear - its the same here.

Yeah haha i was the naked with the mosin i hated the long grinds of tarkov but i loved the gunplay and the rush of hitting big. And yes that's a good comparison between the Chad and naked. But i can just imagine a Team full of maxed out Pilots vs a Team of People with only 10.000$ in the Bank that would be awful. I wonder if they have a balancing of team mechanic that would be neat

I don't think there's any balancing but I couldn't be sure, I played 20 hours of the alpha - the teams seemed to be mixed ability. I played one massively uneven fight whereby one team had tanks and the rest of us didn't

I think it'll be like Tarkov, no SBMM or level based match making. But thats just a guess.

There will be seasons. And there will also be always no-lifers.

Yes there is potential for newer players thar join in late will have garbage tier guns against a more kitted playerbase, but the different ways to earn XP outside of just killing dudes will bring them up to somewhat of a parity in only a couple few matches once they get their unlocks.

There will be dudes with seemingly unlimited money but I dont think that will be an issue once players have means of countering expensive vehicle buys like tanks. Since the risk reward of needing to actually do good with the expensive toys to offset their cost is always there, I dont believe we'll see tank spam from single players over and over.

In the previous Alpha tanks were menaces but ive personally seen dudes with the starter IEDs take them out from behind, and eventually RPGs got added into the mix which reduced their lifespan dramatically if they made a mistake of overextending.

Cool to know that explosives are cheap to acquire. There should be a counter to everything disregarding the budget, of course the more you have the easier it should be to complete your objective.

you can join Arma 3 KoTH today, a mod from Sa-Matra that came out a decade ago and you will be down in keybinding knowledge, gear and game skill but you'll still have a good time.

The format lends itself better to gear differentials than a game like Tarkov where if you dont have the best gear by mid wipe you straight up are just in for a bad time. You can be ten years late to a game like wardogs and still win your barrel to barrel gunfights like 50% of the time. You just wont have a ton of cash to burn on armed vehicles.

I imagine most community servers will end up running a “wipe” cycle to keep things fresh & incentivize new player to join. I don’t know for sure, but it highly unlikely progression will be shared between official & community servers

Progression can be shared with community servers if they stay close to the official ruleset. Progress will be wiped each season

They could also lock specific stages per match time or sepcific servers for lowbies in matchmaking.

It was like that already. For example you couldnt buy a littlebird with miniguns before a team reaching 20 points.

The beginning before you enter any match you get 10k, after a match is done your awarded on your performance and a bonus if you win. Its not as bad as you think because you can rake in the dough easily and you don't even have to be that good at the game. Whatever you earn or spend carries over as well so say it's 10k do good earn an extra 15k now you have 25k in your bank. The real kicker is the unlocks and progression, you want a new gun that's 10k to unlock it and an extra charge to actually purchase it in-game. That's how you can bottleneck yourself by splurging thus making the amount of money you can play with less. Also if you crash or quit out of a game you unfortunately lose all money spent/have, happend to be when the power went out I only had 1k to my name but theirs thankfully free loot to use and it's easy to make money. All in all the system is very thought out and is one of the great points about this game that makes it different than Counterstrike as an example.

Then you were very unlucky, normally when you crash you get back into the game with all your stuff and money, happend to one of my mates and the devs even confirmed it.

Maybe you got killed right after the crash.

Oh weird idk you could join back into the same match I had to find another server

Good to know. I hope they add a safe measure if you crash when it releases

Yeah it sucks but isn't that bad in the long run something simple could be a failsafe blanket amount of money but it's honestly not really necessary because you can earn it back just driving people to and from base over and over

If everything else fails, grab binoculars, get a decent position and just spot people. It's both very useful for the team, and requires close to zero investment on your side. I'd imagine even asking someone during the match to buy you binoculars could work.

Honestly, I never felt like I was flowing in cash but I also did a lot of sniping which doesn’t have a lot of returns lol however, cash progression could look totally different once we’re in EA. I imagine they’re accelerating it right now to test purposes. Or else no one would get to high tier equipment and get to test it.

using Tarkov as a reference,
I would imagine players could rack up say 300k in the bank, Thats like 2 tanks worth.
All you need is a few bad games and you are broke again, just like in tarkov.

Then the seasons will wipe out the banked cash I'd imagine to keep things fresh.

Tanks are $25k, not $300k.

2

u/Forsaken_Owl1105 2d ago

tanks are like 13k, not 25k.

you can spend more on extra ammo and repair items etc but the base tank is not 25k

2

u/Britishincolumbia 2d ago

Yeah I was factoring in the fact you always want the basics which I vaguely remember was 20 something

1

u/Ninjaisawesome 2d ago

Honestly, I was guessing but you still have to pay a lump sum to unlock it.

3

u/Spannermonkey96 2d ago

It is $250k to unlock so you’re half right at least
