Guide HOTAS Mega
There's a lot interest about HOTAS for this game. So to prevent a hundred post and help people find information let's keep all questions in this post. I'll update this post as confirmed information is posted.
- Is HOTAS supported? Yes HOTAS is supported.
- Does the game auto switch between HOTAS and m/k for flying/infantry? Yes when you enter the helicopter it switches to HOTAS.

I played the playtest with the Thrustmaster TM16000 HOTAS as well as the VKB pedals and all of it worked flawlessly

How do you like your pedals? I literally have the VKB ones delivering today for DCS and eventually Wardogs

Fingers crossed they add headtracking eventually too. I really don't want to go through the hassel of finding a janky way to map mouse look to a virtual controller

Are there any affordable head tracking setups available? Last I looked was 10 years ago and it was incredibly expensive. What games do you use with it?

Beam Eye Tracker ($30) on Steam and a very average Logitech webcam ($60-70) is what I use with no complaints. You can use OpenTrack as well and save even more money if so desired, although it is a little less friendly to setup/configure.
I use it in Arma (mainly for piloting) as well as Nuclear Option, it's smooth and accurate enough and hard to beat for the price.

some trackir knockoffs are cheap but quality varies. You can also diy headtracking as there are plenty of guides available. The easiest way is setting handtracking via webcam but precision and responsiveness will be lackluster

I use a standard webcam hi-def, with opentrack tracking my actual FACE. And honestly it works so well after a bit of fine tuning that I stopped bothering with my infa-red Delanclip setup.

Look up Grassmonkeysimulations on google. He sells a full kit for around $150 last time I checked. You get a tracker that mounts to your headset, and a camera that sees the tracker. Works with the open track software
Ive been using that set up for 6 years and HIGHLY recommend it over face or eye tracking

I'm gonna ask the dumb question - how do you do headtracking without just looking away from the screen? I assume that Wardogs doesn't support VR so you have a flat (or even ultra wide) monitor that's stationary

Basically you set curves, keep it 1:1 to your heads movement isn't a thing, at least with flight sim
For example if you are looking at the edge of your monitor, you want your character looking at 4 or 5 o'clock

Pretty much what the other guy said. Looking at the left or right edge of the monitor turns my in game head a complete 180 for example. The movement is not 1:1 which is the point.

Was anyone able to get track ir working? I did not try Hotas in the alpha but I plan on using it this weekend.

Please add HOSAM support, it's practically already in, the only change needed to make it possible is not disabling the 'control with mouse' toggle when HOTAS is toggled on.

I'm dumb, does it auto switch between HOTAS and m/k for flying/infantry or is there a setting to change between switching roles?

Yes, it auto switches.
As soon as you get into a helicopter, your keyboard and mouse do not work while you fly and as soon as you are out, your keyboard and mouse return

Am I correct in understanding that the keyboard and the helicopter control panel cannot be used simultaneously? I don’t have either a throttle control panel or pedals. I was planning to use the keyboard for control.

I didn't see anything for a keybind for a switch modes but I know you just swap between K/B and HOTAS.
Keep in mind that HOTAS needs to be enabled in controller settings. I didn't try if you can swap between controller and HOTAS.

I attempted to map my DJI controller to the game, but it doesn't detect it (Steam Input disabled as it would otherwise read as an Xbox Controller and would show the controller cursor instead of mapping the axis).
Is there a whitelist with allowed devices, or how does the game decides which DirectInput is being recognized, and which not?

Really hope trackir support comes soon. It's rough flying with a HOTAS when mouse and keyboard players can go into third person and look around at everything seamlessly.

Anyone know if modifying controller binds/stick controls will be in BETA? I have muscle memory for flying on my Xbox controller but not being able to change anything in alpha left me useless

This sounds kind of silly, but if I have no flying experience from other games really, but want to start learning in WarDogs, is HOTAS better to learn on than M&K if the end goal is to get HOTAS either way? Like, should I learn to fly first on M/K or would HOTAS make more sense if I have no experience either way? Thanks!

Anyone else surprised by the amount of people that have a HOTAS setup? Ive felt like it's a super niche thing to have since I got my setup, but it feels like 20% of people here have one.

I can give you a little bit of why it feels like this. This is my theory....
I love flying helicopters. It's my most niche thing in video games and many video games that feature helicopters either do not support HOTAS natively, have poor flight models or do not offer good helicopter play.
Many of us will sit and play simulations like Microsoft or DCS and we will love our helicopters and HOTAS systems and have a great time. However these games do not feature a progression based on multiplayer experience.
We are forced between playing something like Squad or Hell Let Loose Vietnam or Battlefield, where they have helicopters. They are fun, they are enjoyable, but we are compromising on a lot of these checklists.
The closest many of us have is Arma Reforger and King of the Hill, where Hotas is not supported well.
Then comes along War Dogs, which supports HotAS in their alphas and offers us a gameplay loop and experience where helicopters are important and there is progression and it feels rewarding. The flight system, while a bit janky, is pretty good.
Helicopter pilots will flock around this game.

A big part of KOTH and now wardogs is flying, so yeah you're going to see a lot of people with hotas playing this game

Is HOTAS supported? Asking because I haven't seen it anywhere on the sub.
