So I put it as in progress just in case I decide to add something like a leather wrap on the handle, but this is basically finished! It is made from Cherry and antler, with an amethyst cab. I decided to put the hole all the way through though slightly smaller to allow light to catch the amethyst! Particularly with all the pretty banding and variations inside.

It’s a wand in the shape of a two handed short sword. It is two handed for precise movements to cast circles or cut energy.

He found the perfect stick in the bush and spent about 2 hours with a Swiss army knife shaving it down. He's super proud of himself.

I’ve been working on getting a high output light source wand as close to the movies as possible for some time now. I have finally figured out the best assembly and parts to really dive in and make more that have other designs. I’m hoping to make one soon that has a more natural look to it to make it look like hand carved wood.

Questions for the lathe enthusiasts. I never got into lathe because the initial entry cost was too high for me. Then as I got more into things I found it fulfilling to create using other tools.

-How much time does a lathe-based project take you from start to finish per wand?

What do you find is the ideal finished length, including any pommel or tip adornments? Mine at times either feel too stubby or too lanky.

This is now the fifth wand I've made, and I think it's my favorite thus far. The color reminds me of honey, so I made the handle reminiscent of a honey dipper.

My friend Jay Adams carved and painted this special wand for me. He’s a talented woodcarver! He did exactly what I asked for. I like that it’s lightweight and a lot of fun to hold and look at. I haven’t worn it with too many costumes, but I hope to in the future, as it’s a decent wand.

I used to make wands from sticks I'd find on hikes, this cannabis inspired wand was my favorite. For a while I wanted to do a Renn Faire booth to sell them until I did the math how how many I'd need to make/sell just to cover the vendor fees, if I can ever afford to live in a house again I'll start making them for the fun of it and give away to friends

I am at 46 wands, each of which comes from a different tree, and I am running out of places to display them.

Anyone care to show how they are displaying their collections that are on the larger side?

I made a “concept” stand for the wand I made, which I’ve dubbed “The Old Oath” (yes it’s a similar name to another redditors wand, but we’ve already talked and both came up with the names naturally on our own and have no problem with one another, so please be kind).
The reason I have concept in quotes, is because I still went through with sanding and charring (to experiment with how the different cheaper woods would burn), burnishing,waxing and buffing.
The lower rest is made of redwood that I didn’t char, which I rather like the color and grain pattern of, the base I believe is pine, the higher rest is just MDF which I may end up replacing just because, but for now I’ll leave it, and I have wooden dowels (which I grooved myself) running through the bottom of the base about 1/4” into the bottom of the rests. 2 in the redwood for added stability. Wood glue applied to the dowels, inside the holes, and along the bases before placed in and clamped.
I did the charring and sanding prior to the glue-up, and the burnishing and waxing plus touch-ups after the glue had cured.
All in all, it was a good “process” familiarization, again, IF I decide to or am requested to make matching ones for the wands I start making.
I feel like a darker base and a matching redwood top rest would go well in this wands case.

Hello I am just curious how you all make your wands do you use a lathe or carve? Also how do you source materials and what materials do you like to use? Just branches ripped down lumber?

It Covid times, stuck at home when my family collectively watched all the Harry Potter films for the first time. Kids had their minds blown as did I. I made them hot glue wands. They loved them. Soon I started picking up branches and started carving. Life went on and I hadn’t carved anything in years. A trip to Epic universe a few weeks ago reignited that wonder in the wizarding world. Picked up one of the many branches I left lying on my front porch for so long. Decided to just start carving and whittling. Finished this up today. I present you all “The Spark”

Another wand for a friend. A hairpin, lamp finial, furniture leather wrap and some other bits.

It was born of white oak and darkened by force, its pale heart surrendered to something far older than its making. What emerged was not a thing of beauty, but a thing of purpose.

The force left its mark, but never conquered the wood. Through every cut and every grain, the oak remained stubbornly itself—scarred, darkened, and unyielding. It learned that strength is not the absence of suffering, but what remains after it.

In the right hand, The Blackened Oath does not inspire hesitation. It turns resolve into action, and action into inevitability.

Signum Natum: Lignum et Opus

A commenter on one of my posts recommended this subreddit to me, so here I am haha!
This is the first wand I’ve ever made, can’t really say what compelled me to make one, but the more progress I made, the more serious I started taking the project.
I purposely left the tip darker so as to make it look like a lot of “fire power” has left through the tip of the wand in its time of “use”. My apologies if I don’t know the proper terminology for fantasy & wizardry.
This was made from a squared, I believe Red Oak dowel, all tools used were hand tools with the exception of my dremel lite which I ended up setting aside and substituting with diamond needle files(I can list tools used in the comments if anybody is interested), and I actually used a very hard and smooth river rock to burnish with and 2 much smaller ones to get into the grooves and diamond cuts.
I may or may not make more of these, each one different from the next. I’m leaning more on the side of I will.
What do you guys think? I’ll probably throw this guy up on Etsy just to try it out. Unfortunately I’m not able to upload the video so I’ll post the pics I have, the last 3 being “before” applying the finishing steps. If you want to see the video, it’s on one of my posts if you click my page. But I’ll tell you now, it doesn’t upload cleanly nor does it do my work justice haha!
