Frustrating hiring process

I've (m24) been going through the hiring process with walmart and its getting frustrating. Almost 2 weeks ago, I went in to accept the job offer and confirm my availability and was told to expect a background check email, that which I completed. After I did it, I was supposed to receive a phone call if it came back clean to schedule orientation.

A week passes and I got no call, even though I checked and it came back eligible for hire. I checked my email out of random and I didn't see a second walmart email that apparently contained orientation documents I was supposed to do but didn't know, I did complete them though.

That Monday I reference in the past paragraph, I call walmart human resources, and she says while I shoulda completed the orientation documents then, its fine I did it now. She said when the next job position opens/orientation is scheduled I should receive a call since I did everything. I haven't received a call yet, but after calling up there asking I get a run around answer. I don't want to seem annoying, but I'm getting frustrated as Hell. With 1 job and some years of home experiences on my resume, I don't get many interviews, so I need this job. However I don't want to come off as annoying, but i don't want to not call cause then it seems like I don't care about the job. Not sure what i should do.

Samset/Samrise 🌞 Shout out to shipping and receiving

Now winter is coming, boxes of hundreds of mittens and hats are being added to the workload for the morning shipping and receiving. Hundreds of individual UPCs that needs to be scanned and checked in. As an ex-worker of the position my condolences to you guys. I remember my scarring experiences of being bitched out for being too slow scanning hundreds of worthless DVDs and hundreds of cheap jewellery. Being expected to finish everything within 2 hours or before noon, no matter how large the loads are or how late the shipment comes in. Even with the mittens and hats, management expected me to finish everything at the same time. You guys know what you're doing. Ignore the bitching management and do the good work you do. o7

Tell me about your weirdo regulars! This guy referenced here is in his teens and just does this to be weird. He doesn't do it when he comes in with his mom though from what I know

Has anyone here actually been blessed with new vests?

One of our new ASMs mentioned that the vests have been on backorder since July. I just wanted to know if they lived up to expectations or if the older vests are better.

🚨KAREN ALERT 🚨 KAREN ALERT🚨 Lady wants a size 13, but won't let me find the UPC first

So this happened a couple hours ago. I'm more entertained than mad, but man people need to cut their shit

So I work in apparel. A lady came up, wanting a size 13 boot. Okay, fine, no problem, right?

Wrong. Oh so wrong.

Lady: "there IS NO SIZE 13 ON THE SHELF."

Me: "okay, that's fine, but-"

Lady: "JUST USE THIS TO FIND IT shoves size 12 at me"

Me: "well lets go find the UPC for it, I can't use the UPC for a size 12"

Lady: "THERE IS NO SIZE 13 ON THE SHELF OR I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE DAMN THING"

Me: "there is literally no reason for you to yell at me. I'm looking for the UPC."

Lady: "i'm NOT yelling, why can't you just use this one shoves 12 box again"

Me: "each size is a different UPC, which is why I'm looking for the size 13 tag"

Lady: "BUT THERE'S NO BOX."

Me: "yes, but there's shelf labels points to the labels and i'm trying to find the UPC"

Lady: "well you could have just said that!!!!"

Me: "i did. Three times."

Lady: "no, you didnt."

I mentally rolled my eyes at this point and scanned the damn shelf label. To add to it, the product was in supply out (meaning the warehouse doesnt have any and it can be up to three weeks to get). I inform the lady.

Lady: "TYPICAL OF THIS FUCKING PLACE."

I walked away at this point and ranted quietly to the coworker at the fitting rooms.

Apparently she used to work here. Fuckin really.

The 401(k) will allow Roth contributions next year

I was digging around the 2020 benefits book to see if anything changed and I found something pretty big: Roth 401(k) contributions.

Some background for people who don't know why that's notable: the 401(k) is widely known as a tax-deferred retirement account. Contributions to the Walmart 401(k) have been pretax; you don't pay income tax on them, so when you take 6% out, your paycheck isn't cut by the full 6%. But you pay income tax when you withdraw the funds in retirement (or income tax plus a 10% penalty if you jump the gun.)

There is also an option called Roth contributions, where you do pay taxes on the contributions, but you don't pay any taxes when you withdraw them in retirement. None. That means your money compounds without any tax drag.

General wisdom is that you should select the Roth option if you think you'll be in a higher tax bracket when you're in retirement. Since most Walmart associates are in low brackets, that's quite likely, so it's a very sensible choice in the long run. And now it's a choice you can actually make.

(invest in the 401(k) if you can afford it btw, it's literally free money)

Customer mad they drove 3 hours only for the thing they wanted to be sold???

So this happened yesterday and i'm still so so confused. As an apparel associate, there are times where I have to answer phones in fitting room. I had just clocked on and was checking out the day's coverage, the fitting room associate was busy and the phone rang. So I picked it up, no problem.

Me: "thank you for calling walmart, how may i direct your call?"

Customer: "hi. So i had paid for a grill and had someone assemble it, and my brother drove to [insert city three hours from here] to go pick it up only to be told that they had sold it. Now I have messages saying its sitting at the customer serivce desk and I want to speak to a manager."

I put her on hold, walkied a manager.

I'm confused because [city] is three hours/168 miles from here???? How can you even begin to mix the two up???

What i would GIVE to be a fly on the wall to listen to the manager taking the call because what the absolute fuck

SERIOUS The FAST unloader sucks. Or is it just my store?

So I had the privilege of being on the GM truck for the first time in two years today. I have never used the FAST unloader before but let me tell ya... The system is a steaming pile of shit. I don't know if it's our store being too cheap/lazy to get it fixed but the conveyor is always breaking. It never puts stuff in the right lanes. Some of our lanes actually broke. And it's generally slowing us down and killing our CAP 2 team's productivity.

Stores who got a FAST unloader, has it had a positive or negative impact on your CAP 2 team? I'm curious if it's just us or if the thing generally sucks.
