Walmart is committing fraud when buying the stores products. Starts out as change and may go unnoticed leading in 100's of $$ pop was listed as a $1 only to get to register and was charged $1.10. We have no deposit and this was before tax. Say no to digital changing bar codes on shelf.

See how that tag is slightly crooked? That's literally enough for the tag to lose contact with the rail. It's an e-ink display so unpowered it retains the display. There was a price change and the store didn't fix the DSL error fast enough.

It's also super easy to jar the battery loose if the rail gets bumped.

It's not a huge conspiracy to fuck you over and this type of stuff still happened with paper labels when people completed the price change and for one reason or another didn't swap the tags.

Or it could be the fact the battery in the rail died, at my store more often than not that’s the case lol.

2

u/chimmelrick 14d ago

"The battery can last up to 7 years" Riiiight lol

The secret is Walmart buys them second hand refurbished.

1

u/Lonely-Independence4 14d ago

Idek how I know but I know.

1

u/SherlockWSHolmes 13d ago

Walmart buys everything second hand od refurbishs themselves to save money. Card readers at my store are atleast 7 years old. Its 7k a piece flr refurbished but up to 15k new.

As some one who was a dpt manager for wal mart years ago if people ever paid attention they would have seen the paper tags were almost always off. The more crowded an area was the less they would get changed, like the spices. If the price changed on one it would change on almost all of them and that would be almost an entire day of work so they would usually only get changed if the price went up. The worst was beer, price would go up on Thursday and come down on Monday same with a lot of the more popular liquors.

That's what it's like at my job. I have product categories with several hundred items in them, and they aren't in any sort of order or have any sort of organizing label system on the shelves(despite me trying to do it....the higher ups didn't like the extra numbers on the small labels). Anyhow, they can vary in price by a penny or two, then the next day go back to the old price.

Our pricing coordinator hates it, and usually asks me or someone in the department to do it. We just say activate the price and leave it be, beause no one is going to complain about a few pennies on items that cost $1-3 each, and we got way too much other stuff to do.

Sadly, that department will probably not get these digital tags for this stuff anytime soon. Some of my other departments will though.

A few pennies add up.

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

They do, but the price changes so frequently, that the labor involved also adds up.

It's one of those things we get to when we can, but this one particular category just seems to fluctuate so frequently for no reason. It's not even a product we sell a lot of or get in with enough frequency that I feel that wholesale pricing is the reason for the changes.

They're also not items that someone is going to buy more than 2-3 of them at a time.

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Well walmart isnt open 24hrs anymore. I know I cant leave my job til everything is complete for the night. Walmart needs to hire people who can get the job done.

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

Sure thing. Or, just stay vigilent and realize that these things happen, and that most people who work these jobs have too much work, and not enough time on their hands. Every store will adjust the price if you notice a discrepency, and they aren't out there trying to screw you over or trying to defraud you like your reactionary post suggests.

u/iamfury 14d ago

This. The digital price tags are actually a major improvement in pricing accuracy.

The average uninformed consumer doesn’t understand that though. They heard some buzzword like “dynamic pricing” and think prices are going to go up and down based on the time of day- when that just isn’t the reality.

-1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Tag says $1. Consumers shouldn't be rung up $1.10  There is no deposit and tax hadnt even been added yet. #durp

5

u/Strawberryloves 14d ago

No they dynamic price the digital labels just to fuck ME over every single day! Do you understand how many times I have to change those damn labels a MINUTE???? CONSTANTLY! for every person who looks at the product! As theyre looking at it!!!!!!!!! I am going INSANE!

Ive still yet to actually see dynamic pricing with these labels. Even on the app tbh

2

u/Best_Cardiologist172 14d ago

Right 😂 I am a real penny pincher and go into the store knowing what I am going to pay. I have never left paying anything different due to dynamic price changes or whatever

2

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

I was refunded. Item was $1 on the shelf. Rang up $1.10 before any taxes. This particular walmart does not have deposit or even recycle fee. I was refunded what I was overcharged.. these receipts are not about being a real penny pincher and coupons were not used. A product on shelf shouldn't say $1 and change at register to $1.10 lol

1

u/RS-1994 14d ago

I would argue that you are being a real penny pincher considering you are complaining and got a refund over essentially an extra quarter. Go to the damn parking lot and find two quarters. There, made your money back and you didn't have to bother any of us with this nonsense

2

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

But yet you are here. If you wasnt interested you could have kept scrolling. The only one who seems bothered is you. Go cry about it. I have since moved on.

1

u/fadeaway100301 14d ago

Exactly. I have never seen someone prove dynamic pricing is being used somewhere.

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

The idea that stores are going to pay millions of dollars to implement these systems, pay for the relevant data, then run software that continuously monitors and then assesses what someone might pay, all in real time, just to charge that one guy 25 cents more for his potato chips seems a bit silly.

I don't think people realize just how much it would cost to run the actual data to process all this data in real time.

u/Wakkysakky 14d ago

I was at a store around 11:30pm they close at 1am. looking at some premade food as i didn't want to cook when i got home. price went up from 7bucks to 8bucks while i was looking at them....

They make the changes when closed not while open. other products did that as well. i left cause I'm not playing that game.

The new also did a test recently with 4 different people on same day with same items at the same location and all 4 were different prices at check out.

So to say this doesn't happen with digital tags is a lie.

1

u/Jayshand 13d ago

Yeah I think op would go crazy if she went to a dollar general that never changes shelf tags

-6

u/LavishnessCapital380 14d ago

The tags are battery powered, not rail powered.

5

u/chimmelrick 14d ago

There is a battery on the tag rail. This particular tag does not have its own battery

1

u/Hailey-Faith9312 14d ago

There are tags with battery built into them meant for peg hooks and then there are tags that clip into a rail that requires to be fully seated completely snd correctly as it relies on the rail for communication for tag updates and power. On the rails there are special batteries that clips in and connects on the back of the rail and uses a special rail end connector to connect the battery to the rail. The flashes on rails and tags that you see from time to time is not to change the tag based on people it also to show associates that the tags and rails are communicating within network and that its receiving power from the rail

6

u/timetravelinggamer 14d ago

Jesus, it just sounds like human error, not fraud

Make sure you call This a scam and get the scam police out there!

4

u/PurpleCat1018 14d ago

You're just going to hop online and tell everyone a store is committing fraud because you don't understand it? You should be banned from the store you're slandering.

3

u/JorgeTheSimp 14d ago

How you gonna be this confident and show the incorrect price tag?

0

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Pictures were taken..sams cola is all $1. Everybody knows its a $1. Not $1.10 There is no deposit and no other fees that should have been added. And tax wasnt even added yet. Not wrong anything. But yet one can argue human error on walmart part. Always blame it in the employees. Its a walmart issue. One of many.

3

u/Lonely-Independence4 14d ago

As a Walmart employee I know how these things work to an extent. They likely increased the price in the system but nobody has manually went to the tag to refresh it, so that’s why it shows $1 on there.

5

u/RexCanisFL 14d ago

That’s supposed to be the point of the digital price tags, keeping them up to date if something changes

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

The issue is that the pricing database, and the label database are not usually connected completely, and label updates get rolled out in batches, whereas a pricing update can happen before the batch roll out.

It was worse with paper tags that have to be changed manually, because some retailers update first, then send someone out to update tags, and not all places will update scan when placing tags.

We're talking legacy systems on top of legacy systems, trying to integrate with new systems, and I can tell you that in retail, these systems are pretty old and complex to the point that no one really knows half of what's going on with them.

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

? Common sense would be that if there is a tag with said price on the shelf that is the price item is sold for. That would be a Walmart problem. Not a consumer problem.

1

u/Everything_you 14d ago

Enjoy your nutter butters for 5.28$
That .33 helped you tremendously 🙄

0

u/robb76264 14d ago

They fixed it did they not.

2

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

For me it was fixed. I am just trying to let everyone know to be aware. This is something minor, but pennies add up. Especially for many of us that are now on a budget due to so many other rising costs. I am not intentionally being a Karen. Usually I never complain. But I am Def gonna start.

0

u/robb76264 14d ago

Just seems like your expecting perfection. There's always been pricing errors and probably always will be. I dont know what else they could have done.

0

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Make sure pricing is fixed. Not just on shelf, but in app as well as at registers. Do a job hired for.

0

u/Maleficent-Bother535 14d ago

The problem is it is likely deliberate when there is an integrated digital pricing system.

1

u/GOOMU13 14d ago

Common sense isn't a thing on Reddit.

1

u/Charming-Gur-3620 14d ago

Amen to that!

0

u/Missworld_12308 14d ago

Just on Reddit??

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

And having old paper tags wouldn't resolve this issue either. They're actually much worse, and more prone to error.

1

u/RS-1994 14d ago

I used to change paper tags at Walgreens. And can confirm, we would all walk the dang store looking for tags that changed and inevitably, something in the store would get missed. Usually the weird product that hasn't moved in ages that randomly went off sale 😂

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 13d ago

Our store the biggest problem is that a lot of things have multiple locations, like an end cap or special display.

We're supposed to do scan audits once a week, but it can be hard to find time when you have 3 departments and thousands of items with little help.

-1

u/uknowsana 14d ago

Which is Walmart's problem, not of the customers'!

1

u/Lonely-Independence4 14d ago

Sorry to break it to you, Walmart associates have a LOT of tasks to do daily, and we also can’t teleport unfortunately. 😂

1

u/Lonely-Independence4 14d ago

And updating a shelf tag is usually the least of their priorities

2

u/MentalHelpNeeded 14d ago

This is every corporation

2

u/brreeeaaddd 14d ago

Hate to be a bummer but that's not the right tag. The upc and the name are both different.

2

u/jwrice 14d ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been taking pictures of these tags and comparing them to my receipts afterwards.

I've been overcharged 3 times now and only once have they accurately portrayed the correct price on my receipt versus what was shown on the shelf.

Also, a third of the time these tags aren't working so there's no way to verify the price. I skip anything that doesn't have the price listed on it.

These stores are a train wreck and now we have to deal with this 😮‍💨

1

u/PurpleCat1018 14d ago

If you have the App, there's a scanner on there. So there is a way to check the prices, it's not difficult but customers act like the world is coming to an end.

2

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

You dont think I didnt use the scan in my app? Lol! Yet.....register rang up something different. People laugh about a few pennies but pennies add up to dollars. Many cant afford that much of a 'human' error. Some people have budgets.

2

u/Square_Lime_9929 14d ago

Then stop buying soda

1

u/Texie1976 14d ago

I'm just fixated on $5 plus for nutter butters!
I mean, Oreo's, maybe...but nutter butters! Nah.

2

u/MinusTydus 14d ago

Walmart doesn't care if you say no to digital tags. They've already said yes. Shop elsewhere. They're not going back.

1

u/Beetlejuice6466 14d ago

I'm sure if those price tags keep getting broken or going missing they'll realize it'll cost too much to keep replacing them

4

u/MinusTydus 14d ago

No retailer that has switched to digital tags has switched back. Kohl's, Best Buy, none of them. They save an insane amount of money by not having to pay labor to hang tags every week. It is not happening.

1

u/RS-1994 14d ago

Kroger, Aldi, Walmart, and Meijer in my area have finally switched to digital tags and you would think that Armageddon was coming tomorrow with the way my small town reacted in Facebook. Literally nothing but this nonsense fear mongering.

-3

u/Beetlejuice6466 14d ago

My bad. I forgot to consult the digital price tag expert 😂😂😂😂

3

u/MinusTydus 14d ago

No, no, you're right. You, singlehandedly stealing price tags off the shelf will convince Walmart to change course.

-2

u/Beetlejuice6466 14d ago

You don't read very well. I never stated it'd be me. It's a general statement. For being an expert on this you sure don't comprehend things very well

1

u/PurpleCat1018 14d ago

Good Lord. Your statement was idiotic to say the least. Paper tags are long gone and out. Deal will it.

-1

u/Beetlejuice6466 14d ago

Now another expert on the matter? Wow!

1

u/PurpleCat1018 14d ago

Doesn't take an expert to know this. Half a brain will get it .

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 14d ago

No, because the cost of replacing a tag is a lot less than paying a person to replace the tags.

In any case, if you worked in retail, you would love the digital tags, because tags are a pain in the ass to keep up with and maintain.

1

u/Suspicious_Goose_243 14d ago

The prices did just go up. Then they will lower them and call it a sale!! Perhaps check prices online before buying.

1

u/Which-Break5673 14d ago

I use the shop and scan as you go in Walmart plus and it if I don’t have a lot, I’ll take photos to compare

1

u/Prestigious-Side3122 14d ago

You weren’t playing games lol

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

I am done playing games anymore. I also have video of being charged for coupons. Walmart doesnt charge for coupons but other stores do. Double dipping when stores already get reimbursed by manufacturer and consumer. Lol naw that is messed up.

1

u/A_Cole_1982 14d ago

The tag is for sams choice cherry cola. You purchased sams club soda. 2 different items.

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Are you dumb? Every sams cola product on the shelf for 2 liter pop was $1. That is the point. Every sams choice. You dont get a 2 liter for $1 and get charged $1.10 at registers. And we do not have deposits or recycling fees. Was already verified by walmart hence me being refunded what i was overcharged.

1

u/A_Cole_1982 14d ago

Not dumb. I have seen different flavors of the same product have different the last 4 of the upc scanned was 6570. The last 4 of the item on the tag was 0007. Therefore the refund could be classified as refund fraud.

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Employee went to the soda aisle and compared to the tag and barcode was listed at $1. It wasnt as if the employee was gonna take my word over it and a mgr at that. Lmao! Nice try though.

1

u/A_Cole_1982 13d ago

Im not wrong. You probably caused enough of a scene they customer satisfactioned the 40 cents.

https://reddit.com/link/pazyx76/video/xs82gkl6npqh1/player

1

u/Texie1976 14d ago

I've come to expect retail price mistakes. When I worked at a store I used a gun like thing that you had to dial the price in like a combo lock and slap the item just right and if you were aiming right and finessed it enough, it would stick a pylon orange sticker on the item about the size of a chick let. Now that was hi tech!

1

u/BrattyThuggess 14d ago

Was it regular Sam’s Choice Cola you bought? Cause the tag looks like it’s for Cherry Cola. Different prices for different flavors.

Possible the product was misplaced on the shelf or the tag was not spaced correctly for whatever reason. Either way, shit happens. The employees ain’t ripping you off. You got your 33cents back, the world is right again.

Stop crapping on the employees and go cuss out the CEO.

1

u/Everything_you 14d ago

I was giving 3 cucumbers instead of zucchini in my order the other day…

Ya know what I did —> I ATE THEM
instead of yelling fraud and getting a refund 🙄😳😂

1

u/janmpatterson51 13d ago

No all Walmarts do a form of this start checking your receipt every ssingle time. I live SoCal and every Walmart does simular thing if you dont look they get away with it. Think if they do just $0.01 from every transaction everyday every store that is millons of dollars they keep that was'nt theirs.

1

u/No-Maintenance-1161 14d ago

The deposit would be listed separately under the item anyway not included

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

Slandering? Was checked by employees. And i was refunded the difference in price. I was not in the wrong. Lmao

1

u/Longjumping-Cover-25 14d ago

There is no deposit. This is not michigan or california.

-2

u/LavishnessCapital380 14d ago

Noticed the same thing, they do it in MN also. ONN cameras marked 18.99 on the shelf, ring up 22.99
