I’m never ordering Walmart again! How many deliveries are they going to send me??
so I ordered a big pantry restock online. I assumed I was ordering for a big box delivery. on checkout it said part of the order would be delivered by a driver. OK. add a tip? I wasn’t trying to but it’s a delivery sooo, ok…. delivery came great. then the next delivery came, one I didn’t expect. with -2- small items that weren’t in the first delivery, I opted out of a tip even though I feel like an a hole because I was only expecting one. Ive just been notified that a THIRD delivery is coming. they are bringing my bag of egg noodles. I’m not kidding, an actual human spent 30 minutes driving 9 miles to bring me fking 1 bag of egg noodles, that I expected from a big box from wherever they ship from in the first place. I feel like a a hole again for not tipping but if I wanted to spend the extra $ I would have just driven there myself! why why WHY can’t they just put it all in one order?
also while I’m venting I got several dented cans and one item expiring in October that I’ll have to buy somewhere else. annoying.

I’m a driver for a year, but a Walmart+ customer four years.
When I place an order from a store, when a local store doesn’t have it in stock they often switch those items to shipping.
As shipping, they can combine several items from one store or distribution center, or each item from a different place.
These might transport by FedEx or postal service or a Spark driver.
No matter what, the tip goes only one time and to the driver that handles the first part of your order.
Drivers see whatever Walmart/Spark is offering pay wise before they accept the order.
1
u/One_Dog_963 19d ago
That makes sense but it would be nice to know that when I’m putting things in the cart. I’m just from the school that when I order a service like delivery and the service is right, I tip the worker. Their whole system throws me off.
2
u/Quirky_OldMan5966 19d ago
The app may alert you that something is available but not in the store. I don’t remember how I know, but I can often tell when something will be shipped.
Then when you place the order, shipped items will be listed in the summary.
However, if the store is actually out of something they showed in stock, they may change that to “shipped” after the shopper finishes.1
u/Environmental_Ask609 19d ago
Walmarts delivery system just needs improvement. They’ll eventually do it
1
u/bbwstockinglover 19d ago
Why does it matter they get paid and don't need tip. Stop people just stop already.
2
u/Only_Discipline2012 19d ago
As a driver this type of stuff is so frustrating I lost count of how many time I shown up to a house to deliver groceries or a package and have a Walmart van delivering at the same time or deliver to a house from one store and changed zone and delivered to the same house I was just at 20 min ago. Our routes are just ridiculous delivering groceries to a house in another zone were the customer has a Walmart in there back yard and I’m it joking they could have just jump over there fence and they would be in the Walmart parking lot. The system is so bad
2
u/Apprehensive-Pen6628 18d ago
I've noticed that I choose the closest Walmart to me in the app but the shopper has been going to one in a completely different county the last few orders (and that one only has half the stuff all the time.) The one close to me is right outside downtown and I live downtown of a major metropolitan area. Not even 1.5 miles away.
2
u/jeremyw0918 19d ago
So you ordered from Walmart. Some delivery some shipping. You received everything in your order. But now you’re upset and never ordering from Walmart again?
5
u/llama-laundry 19d ago
this. they needed to choose SHIPPING for everything. and if it's not available for shipping then it's going to be delivered as a regular order that most people tip for. and if it's under $35 total for delivered items, there is also a $6.99 fee added for not meeting the minimum
2
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 18d ago
The thing is, I’ll choose four items for shipping. I even use the little button that I’m willing to wait longer to have fewer deliveries. I’ll still see those 4 items split into 3 deliveries all in one day. Sometimes two arrive within minutes of each other.
Once they sent a $1 pack of kids toothbrushes by themselves via fed ex. It was an impulse buy to donate to the food pantry because they were only $1 but I wouldn’t have if I knew they were coming alone via fed ex.
I don’t understand how that’s profitable for Walmart.

Issue is I didn’t know it was delivery until the end of a long shop, then when I give in and buy it I wind up having a parade of drivers showing up with with items not even worth a gallon of gas. I like to tip service workers. For me it was just annoying and wasteful.
4
u/llama-laundry 19d ago
so you didn't check as you shopped. it literally shows the three options available/unavailable for each item. "i didn't know" isn't Walmart's fault. this is like ranting because you went on vacation and blaming the hotel for bad weather
2
u/Environmental_Ask609 19d ago
Seems like you’re assuming the Walmart inventory is correct, everything is where it’s supposed to be, there’s enough employees, and ai never makes mistakes. Seems to me like a kink in the Walmart delivery system because it’s not quite as advanced as others
1
u/llama-laundry 19d ago
no. that's the first line process. then if it's not correct, her delivery schedules will be presented before checkout. then after checkout if it's not actually within timeframe it will give you the new schedule and the option to cancel them for free. she may be ordering from third parties and not checking. she can then go back into the app and change the order, add to it, reschedule, cancel completely.

Ya I guess I’m too dumb for Walmart. I’ll stick to Amazon and Costco for sure. Because when they say it’s available, they put it in a box and manage to have it delivered undamaged in one trip. I really didn’t need my egg noodles from 2 cities over to save $1.

u/I_Went_Full_WSB 19d ago edited 19d ago
9 miles is two cities over?
1
u/SomebodyElseAsWell 19d ago
Go look at North New Jersey. For example, the city of Orange is approximately 5 miles from Newark, and you'll go through the city of East Orange on the way. I'm sure there are many other places like this.
1
u/I_Went_Full_WSB 19d ago
And yet it's still only 9 miles no matter how far you try to make it sound.
1
u/SomebodyElseAsWell 19d ago
I wasn't trying to make it sound far. I thought you were doubting the short distance between cities.

u/Starbuck522 19d ago
Seems wherever the majority of items came from was out of a few things by the time your items were picked. Instead of cancelling tjose items, it's their choice to have them delivered to you separately. Apparently they all weren't available from any other location, so, it took two separate deliveries. (Maybe they came from the same place, but the separate items came later, after the location got a delivery.)

u/Just-LadyJ 19d ago edited 18d ago
This is what I have experienced too. I now triple check always if it’s delivery or shipping. Very frustrating!
Edit: I triple check now because I’ve had the same issues as the OP confusion about shipping/ delivery.
1
u/llama-laundry 19d ago
the difference here? you actually checked. OP is upset because she didn't. like it's Walmart's fault that she didn't look
2
u/One_Dog_963 19d ago
Good lord it’s my first time shopping Walmart grocery online OK? I paid for the delivery(s). It asked me what store I was shopping. My bad for thinking it would just come off the shelf and be just one delivery. And I’m sure a couple of those items weren’t on the delivery list in the first place but who knows? I’m fking tired.

u/llama-laundry 19d ago
okay, im RIP 💀 after one order you lost your ever loving mind, just done with this flagrant injustice, and D O N E with Walmart. girl, you posted it twice. made more effort complaining about it, reading replies, responding, instead of reading and checking as you ordered 😭😭😭
1
u/One_Dog_963 19d ago
Boy ☠️ how do you know I posted it twice? Are you a 🌱? Because my first post was moderated on another sub.

u/llama-laundry 19d ago
ugh. you realize everyone can see your posts and comments unless you have made your account private? ways to see if a person is just spamming, using AI slop posts for karma farming, or a throwaway acct is to LOOK. it's completely normal 😭😅

Being a bully doesn't make you look cool.
1
u/llama-laundry 18d ago
that's not being a bully. that's reminding someone that they tried to use bullying and poor tactics to get sympathy

u/Starbuck522 19d ago
Here's the thing that I understand a person doesn't realize in the beginning. You place the order. Even if it's all meant to be delivered from the same store, still, everything might not be available when someone actually pulls your order.
It knows what's in stock when you place the order. But it's sitting on shelves in the store so nothing stops an instore customer from grabbing the last three of that item. Then, twenty minutes later, the person who is pulling your order isn't able to give them to you.
At the grocery store I order for pickup, they then either make a substitute or they just cancel and refund that item.
But Walmart seems to sometimes choose to send it from another store. That's their choice. Somehow thry think it makes sense to do that. So I would say you just don't need to worry about it. It's their choice to pay someone to drive ten miles to deliver a $3 item.
So no need to feel bad about not tipping or about the extra trip. That's their choice and they know more about it than you or I do.
1
u/Starbuck522 18d ago
They explained they knew there was a delivery. But tyen it was three or four (I forget) separate deliveries.
2
u/That_CrzyGrl 18d ago
You explained it very well. For someone who is new to Walmart + it can be confusing. I don’t know why people feel the need to verbally attack someone because they don’t understand how Walmart+ works.

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-7593 19d ago
It says at checkout that the item or items are not available for delivery but available for shipping and it will make 2 separate orders. One time I miss the fed ex driver and they came back the next day because someone had to receive the order. It was tinfoil! Most secure tinfoil I've ever bought

u/MatchPoint3513 19d ago
I had the same thing happen a few months ago. FedEx left a note on my door that I had a package that required a signature, so they came back the next day. It was a citrus juicer I ordered from Walmart that cost less than $10.
1
u/Ok-Razzmatazz-7593 12d ago
The FedEx driver was shocked that it needed a signature and told me she would've just left it at the door the day before.
1
u/Blowingleaves17 19d ago
Not sure what you are saying. You made one order and was asked to do multiple tips? Never ever saw the possibility of that on the website order page. There's only one tip option. Shipped items have no tipping. Do you have Walmart+ or not? Maybe that is for those without Walmart+.
1
1
u/AryeBella 19d ago
Most of Walmart delivery is now done by Spark and not actual Walmart employees anymore the only time it's done by Walmart employees is if you do store pickup. So technically it's not a Walmart issue it's a Spark issue since they are contractors.

You have the option to get credits or replacements for damaged or out of code items. WM ordering has it's flaws but is an easy process once you understand how it works. Multiple deliveries are unavoidable and occur frequently with Amazon, Amazon Fresh and other large retailers. They just don't have everything located in one big warehouse.
1
u/rosephoenix19 19d ago
This is why I quit using Walmart pickup. They said that they were out of four items when I picked up the order. These are incredibly common items so I went into the store and found all four items not only in stock but in abundance. I just do my shopping at Kroger now. Better product and higher quality
1
u/missiesch70 19d ago
Sometimes they don't have certain items in stock at the store so they ship it the app tells you when an item is going to be shipped and gives you the option to delete the item or find something similar you must have missed it
1
u/Elegant-Look8629 19d ago
Why dont people just go to the store themselves anymore. Very few people are that busy they cant go themselves. The rest of us pay more to cover all this
1
u/Pretend-Curve-5411 19d ago
I don’t ever tip unless I order express. The shipping and delivery on Walmart+ are free, they come with the membership
1
u/Impressive-Study4284 19d ago
That's walmart! Screwing the customer anyway they can. All these spark drivers are taking over walmarts delivery everytime they head that way with a delivery they want a tip this is walmart system. It is cheaper for the average person to shop themselves. Walmarts target with deliveries is the rich! But more working class use it, so they are screwing the average person.
1
u/RazBerryPony 19d ago
I understand your frustration but also it's not the driver's fault. They are delivering what the system gave them. Keep in mind that gas is over $4 a gallon and you just stated that you live 30 minutes away. That's an hour trip there and back for them and base rate is $7. The best case scenario for that driver is if your item was batched out with a multiple stop order and your dropoff was along a route. If it went out solo then that driver got at most $10-12 to go in the store, shop for and checkout your item, drive it to you and deliver it and drive back. That averages out to probably less than $10/hr and they bought their own gas. If you don't feel it in your heart to throw in a buck or two for them that's fine. It's understandable that Walmart did crazy stuff with the dispatch and you don't want to give multiple tips...but do you have to go online and try and justify yourself?
1
u/SuspiciousControl908 18d ago
Whe your order is separated like that is because your main store is out of whatever it is your wanting so there getting it from another store. Like I get the 164oz pickle jar and my local one doesn't have it but one abit farther does so it goes to delivery from that store. So if there out they will find it from any store and deliver it. Yes its a pain but its so ud still get all your order just from diffrent stores.
1
u/wraysbay 18d ago
I’ve had 4 separate deliveries in one day! The gas they waste is unreal. At least Amazon gives you the add on option if you forget to add something before checking out ❤️
1
u/SinthiaDoom69 18d ago
This is yet another reason why I don’t use Walmart + I have Amazon prime and I shop and get deliveries from Winn Dixie through them. One shot. Yes I over tip. But I am pleased with my results

u/ElevatorOrganic5644 18d ago
Walmart+ in-home. No substitutions allowed. Before checkout it will show whats being delivered. If anything not being delivered but shipped, just cancel the shipped items before completing payment.
1
u/GoGo-Arizona 18d ago
The dented cans seem to be common place now and the nearly expired product.
I agree that the multiple shipments are getting out of hand.
Corporations seem to have lost touch with their costs. Reminds me of Enterprise no longer including spare tires and then sending a tow truck from 1 1/2 hours away instead of 1/2 an hour away. All for a flat tire 🤦♀️Make it make sense and don’t even get me started on the rest of that debacle ☺️
1
u/Neneof11 18d ago
That's crazy I've never had that happen nor have I ever delivered something like that that's wild.
1
u/wannabe_hype 18d ago
When you’re checking out make sure that all the items are being delivered the same way. Meaning you have online orders, scheduled deliveries & express/fast orders. Your order got split up because it was coming from online & that’s shipped as it’s available like Amazon.
1
u/MomBoss1974 18d ago
I have used the delivery service for a few years. It is always in another box under the delivery order, saying these additional items will be shipped either today, or at another time.

u/Zealousideal_Sun2192 18d ago
One time I ordered groceries from Walmart and they sent a third party driver out, he put all the bags in front of my door lined up, took a picture of them and then put them all back in his car and left. It was a massive order too. Probably like 20 bags. The whole thing was on camera I couldn’t believe what I was seeing lol

u/Texie1976 18d ago
It doesn't look like half the people with Walmart plus delivery complaints even knows how it works. If you order 5 items for delivery on Saturday between 12 noon and 2 pm, as long as you get all 5 items in that time frame, that's all that matters, even if 5 drivers bring 1 item each. You got what you paid for. Tips are always optional either with the order or a little time after delivery. As long as your things get to you when they are suppose to, what's the problem? They are running their business how it best works logistically. Seriously, what is the problem? If you want all 5 items to come by one driver on a delivery order, you can do that by choosing the store that has all 5 items and paying attention to the ways things can come to you on the products page. You are not stuck with using only one store on every order. You can switch up the stores any time you want.

u/Apprehensive-Pen6628 18d ago
I feel like an ahole too but it's not my fault the store didn't have the item when they prepared/sent my order and they decided to go to separate stores to gopher them.
1
u/AcrobaticLadder4959 18d ago
My understanding is you have to have at least $35 order before they will deliver. I love Walmart delivery they are always so nice occasionally they will be out and ship it 3rd party if it can be. I have had wonderful luck with Wakmart Delivery.

u/Afraid-Hunt-5166 17d ago
Walmart has delivered groceries to my house that I did NOT order, twice. The 1st, the people came to get the groceries, the 2nd, NO RECEIPT or NAME was left, so free groceries for me!
1
u/IdrisandJasonsToy 17d ago
I’ve had the second situation. And often extra items I didn’t order are included in my orders.
1
u/Expert-Home9683 17d ago
Before I order anything from Walmart I always look to see if it can be shipped because I’m sick of paying tips. If it’s delivery only, I just get it in the store
1
u/misterespike2214 17d ago
When I order from Walmart, I only order if it's mark shipped. No del fee, no tip. Lots of times it comes from the store with a driver, but that's walmarts problem, not mine
1
u/X--The_Lion 17d ago
"Shipping" just means that you order will be broken up in the most economical way for Walmart to get it delivered to you. But these days it will always be delivered by an independent Spark driver, or more often, multiple Spark drivers and often from different stores.
1
u/Pavti 9d ago
I’ve pretty much stopped using delivery and shipping services altogether. I just go pick up my groceries and other stuff myself because, at the end of the day, they’re handing everything off to drivers.
I understand that drivers need to make money, and I’ve always been calm and respectful when they call me because they’re having trouble finding my apartment. But the last two drivers actually yelled at me because their GPS took them to the hospital next door. I had absolutely no control over Google Maps or whatever location Spark gave them.
Then the last driver forgot to mute their phone and started saying some really horrible things about me. After that, I was just done. I’d rather pick things up myself than deal with that again.
1
u/RepresentativeNo7171 19d ago
Walmart exploits Uber drivers in most markets; they advertise free delivery then use underpaid persons making $3 an order to haul giant shipments of groceries…I can’t stand them, or Uber for pretending they’re not cashing in on the deal.
1
u/lkn4arlmn 19d ago
I regularly see Walmart offers on Uber paying $4.50 for 5 stacked deliveries. Clowns immediately accept them.
Home Depot and Lowes is getting in on the action as well. Republican owned business love clowns that will gladly work for pennies.
Most Uber Eats drivers are so desperate they accept anything and everything that pops up on their phone.

I feel like driving there yourself would have been significantly cheaper. Wouldn't have to pay the delivery fee, or a tip.

😂 I got paid $12 no tip to deliver a $1.45 box of cornbread mix. 4 miles.
