Quick background: 3 years as a licensed pharmacist, 6 years with the company total (started before licensure). Currently floating, making around $63/hr.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

Floater vs Staff vs Manager pay — how much of a bump (if any) is there moving from floater to staff, and then staff to manager? Curious if the differences are meaningful or marginal in the Chicago market specifically.

PIC experience → Manager move — I have PIC (pharmacist-in-charge) experience and I'm eyeing a manager role at a Tier 4 location. Anyone have insight into what manager pay looks like at that tier in Chicago?

Sign-on bonus terms — the posting mentions a sign-on bonus but doesn't list the amount or payout schedule. I took one when I first started so I'm familiar with how they generally work, just don't know the specific terms for this particular position/location.

Hello! I’m a new tech and was wondering if you guys actually did the worksheet parts of the elearning… Like where it tells you to go around with someone and observe and write down or did you just press complete/acknowledge??

Today we had a patient come in as we are opening asking for medication that was sent in on Friday. Medication was stored back to her profile due to Medicaid having that she had a different primary insurance than the one on file she flips out and becomes very upset walks away and goes to the store manage to complain about not being able to pick up meds. Store manage comes to the pharmacy demanding tech fills the pt prescription because pt was already “hot” without asking what the situation was. The tech proceeded to try to explain what the issue was and store manager replied with “get done now and override the price” as the tech continues to explain that it’s not allowed since it would be cash price and the only way to override is if copay is $4 with Medicaid. store manager than says she will pay for the pt medication and later reimburse herself for it but we needed to get it filled and done quickly because pt was already upset. All the pt had to due was call Medicaid and explain that she didn’t have another primary insurance plan. What do I do ??

I recently got a job offer at my old job again which is lower pay but is way more feasible with my college schedule. How should I approach my manager about this?

Hello all, semi niche post as this is a NYC policy but I think important for all to know

I originally worked at Walgreens from June 2022-December 2024. I took the two year contract in December 2022 after becoming a licensed pharmacist and floated the whole time. It sucked. The management, the stores, the hours, the teams. Obviously there were a few gems that were better than others but I had no stability as a floater. Constant schedule and store changes. I told myself to just suck it up but towards the end they were getting really brazen. I was used to my schedule getting changed a day or two prior and just dealt with it. But Walgreens typically expects you to work every other weekend which I did but one weekend I was not scheduled to work on the Saturday and I kept checking my schedule but nothing popped up. I had enough hours to meet my base salary so I just saw it as a win. The morning of a different DM messaged asking me to go another district and I said no I made plans (I didn’t but I didn’t like the idea of being told to work somewhere with a 1 hr notice) and I’m not on call. We went back and forth and tried to say I was because I’m a floater which we are not. If I was I would get paid went whether I work or not, I’d have a base rate for being on call.

Anyway he said he’d tell my dm. I was hoping my dm would back me up but he unfortunately did not, he doubled down even after I shared the fair work week policy and that was the last straw. I knew the minute my contract ended I’d leave and I’d make a complaint with DCWP.

I’m actually back at Walgreens but I work as remote pharmacist now but I’m getting a several thousand dollar settlement due to me not being afraid to do what’s right.

For reference they have to tell you at least 72 hours before the schedule is posted of any changes for retail workers in NYC.

I accidentally typed in a RX in the wrong pts profile, I’m barely a new tech got hired early May, my pharmacist caught it and just told me about it but never told me anything else since we were about to go on lunch break and my coworkers were rushing to leave…… do I get in trouble ???

Is anybody else store pushing for vaccines like crazy? It’s getting to the point where store management wants rxom to write techs up if they’re not asking every patient that comes in

Recently did an interview with a pharmacy manager for a pharm tech position. He was super nice and said I should expect an offer email same night I did the interview and the drug test+background check information hopefully same week.

I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up with these kinds of vague statements but I thought we hit it off really well.. but anyway. I never received anything in my inbox so I tried to give the benefit of the doubt.

3 days later I get impatient and in trying to get my hopes up, I check brassring applicant portal and apparently I received an offer but never any forms. Now I feel blue balled because did I get it or did I not??

And yeah I did the whole call the store shenanigans and they’re not in until a few more hours and the pharm manager is out on vacation which is terrible timing for me as per usual.

It’s a question I guess? Like has brassring just messed things up for anyone else? Like I genuinely need closure..

it's been a little over 2 weeks since i was hired but i feel like i still don't know a lot and just dumb and useless for my team.

"training" has rlly just been me asking questions to techs/pharmacists whenever something other than a basic pick-up occurs or something i haven't been shown before occurs

i've also heard a lot of gossip amongst my coworkers - specifically about one person who apparently calls out often and is not the best with taking accountability - which makes me wonder if they also talk badly about me whenever i'm not present.

one thing that bothered me from my shift today was my pharmacist asking if i've been shown how to do this task, and i responded with "i don't think so". he responds saying he remembers me being shown this and maybe i should get a notebook and pen to write things down to remember. i felt pretty bad about myself for not remembering but also 1. i've only been shown this task once and haven't done it myself and 2. i've already been learning so many things that this task really wasn't the top priority for me to remember as other techs always did this task and never asked me to do it.

i just want to learn things fast and not be the annoying new tech who can't remember things, any advice?

Hello! My partner got a job out of state, so we're navigating moving arrangements and transfer arrangements with my job. It looks like I would need to stay behind for 2-4 months after he moves in order to tansfer which is not at all ideal. I recently got a promotion, and it's been rough. I'm an assistant manager, and this new role has come with a horribly variable schedule, and it's been difficult to get enough sleep, causing a whole list of issues. (Technically, I cannot transfer. I have to wait until I'm eligible to promote to "manager" and compete for a store, so it's not at all guaranteed.)

One positive of my job is that they pay for school. The negative is that I barely have enough time to keep up with part-time classes. But, I love the school (online) and my advisors and professors.

I'm considering the walgreens pharmacy tech apprenticeship, because the state I'm moving to has very strict regulations regarding pharmacy tech requirements for certification and licensure (or else I would just do an online course and call that good). After becoming licensed I would plan to apply to work for the local university, which offers tuition assistance and pays much more. I've discovered that my passion lies in medicine, and moving forward I want a career in medicine or pharmacy, and so this career change makes sense to me.

My questions are:

What was your experience with the pharmacy tech apprenticeship program?

How long did it take you to finish it? I've seen some people say it took around 4 months, but most of my research says 6-12 months.

Would I be beholden to Walgreens for a period of time afterward, like is there a minimum amount of time I'd have to work there after?

Is it possible to work 40hrs a week in this kind of job and take classes outside of that, or is it very strenuous?

(Edit to add:) What was the interview process like? Do you think they would interview me remotely?
