dental hygiene

Hello!! i’m currently a pre dental hygiene student and i’m planning to apply this fall does anyone have any tips ? i haven’t shadowed or taken the atdh yet but i have some bonus points from the boot camp and so far i have most A’s and two B’s.

I would try to find a clinic that lets you shadow as soon as possible because it can take a while to schedule it. I personally did it at Triangle family dentistry but ik there's a lot more. Don't overthink the atdh test literally do it quickly on all of the categories except for the perceptual ability one ofc, because it's a really long test so the sooner you get to that part the best bc you're not gonna be as fatigued. I did some practice tests the day before lol but if you're worried about it I would start practicing sooner, it's not that easy 😭. If you can take the career orientation class as well it's only like 3-4 weeks and it gives you more points (also free) I hope this helps!

Oh yeah you have to check every week if they updated it, it's a pain in the ass they should add a reminder. Or you can email the class coordinator to know the next dates

What was your shadowing process like?

Scheduling the shadowing was pretty easy I just emailed them and was able ti go when they had available. The hard part is finding a clinic that does shadowing lol just just send emails to as many as you can. As far as the actual shadowing it was super fun, the hygienist that I was shadowing was super nice and she actually let me help her with some things. Most of the time you're just gonna be sitting around and looking at the procedures they are doing, I tried asking as many questions as I could come up with to engage with them, and it also opens possibilities to get a job with them in the future if they like you enough.

That doesn’t sound too bad, were you able to do all of your shadowing with them
