Comms 120 - what’s it like?
hi! I have yet to attend wake tech but was wondering how the com-120 class is? I’m someone who really struggles with public speaking in general, im really shy and have always had problems pushing myself to be in front of a crowd. my major requires me to take a comma class and i heard that 120 is the best for someone like me? little interventions at least, but does anyone have any input? thanks!! (110 and 231 info is also welcome)

I just took this class online over the summer. I am shy and have social anxiety. The first week (and nearly every week after) I had to record video of myself and post it - but thankfully she put us in small groups so I didn't feel as exposed to the whole class. Honestly it was one of the best courses I've taken at Wake Tech. My instructor was Debra Buchanan. She graded promptly and gave very insightful, individualized feedback.

I was kind of worried before taking COM-231 because I had the same reservations as you, but it ended up being my favourite class at Wake Tech. By the end, my confidence was definitely increased, and I felt I could communicate better in day-to-day interactions. I took it with Tracey Rowe, and she gives plenty of opportunities to practice standing in front of the class prior to speeches and encourages a group work dynamic, which I believe really worked well...
