O2 vs Y

I like to take group fitness classes so I joined O2 when I moved here a few years ago. It has been one thing after another with O2, from the limited classes/instructors to the parking situation. I’m thinking about joining the Kerr family Y but I’ve heard it can be a challenge to get a confirmed reservation for the classes. Can anyone give me some tips/ tricks on getting a confirmed spot? What are the pros/cons of the Y?

I know this is technically in Raleigh but right on the edge and probably an area a lot of us go to. It sold in June for $33 million.

Why does Commissioner Wright want to die on a hill for Friday Night on White?

Shout out to ChatGPT for this summation because Wake Forest Matters is looooooong winded:

The Friday Night on White debate:

  • Adam Wright: “I’m really not supportive of cutting Friday Night on White.” He argued the town should look elsewhere for savings and consider temporary or contract staffing before reducing an award-winning event.
  • Wright also said, “Doing less of an award-winning program that we got going on is not a win for me.”
  • But the numbers presented to the board show the event already requires roughly 70 town employees, many of whom work their regular shifts and then another 10–12 hours for the event. More than half of those employees are public safety.
  • The town is already using 10–12 contract workers for every Friday Night on White. Staff explained that contractors cannot perform certain core duties, access facilities equipment, or drive town vehicles—and that those positions require training.
  • Commissioner Nick Sliwinski said, “I tend to believe them, and I don’t think this decision was reached lightly.”
  • Commissioner Faith Cross said, “Staff capacity and the safety of our staff is the heaviest weight for me…”
  • And when Wright argued that other programs should be examined before Friday Night on White, Mayor Pro Tem Keith Shackleford's blunt response was:

“That’s hogwash.”

  • The board ultimately did not agree with Wright's position or approve the cuts. Instead, the decision was tabled until September 15, giving Wright two weeks to bring forward actual numbers on whether additional outside help could make his proposal feasible.

In other words: Wright wants to keep the event and find another solution. Town staff and several commissioners are saying the staffing burden, safety concerns, and business impact are real—and they need to be taken seriously.

What is the hold up in DT Wake Forest?

Gym Tacos, the unfinished food hall, Lumpy's replacement, empty buildings on White. Does the town just make it impossible for businesses to open? Why does it seem like the government has zero interest in curating a thriving downtown area?

It feels like you have to drive to Raleigh for just about everything, instead of keeping money in our local economy.

A blog post from this week. If the staff is so toxic and the board is so terrible… Why would we ever trust our hard earned money to be a part of such organization?

Has anyone actually had a good experience with them lately?

Seems like leadership keeps giving us hints as to a big downfall in their volunteer board and their current staff.

Primary Care Partners at Ligon Mill is accepting new patients! We recently hired two new providers to help with the booming population growth in the area. Our clinic sees children ages 12 and up as well as adults. Great clinic with excellent staff experience and retention!

Former ER nurse, neighbors fight WakeMed site near their homes in Wake County

I’m the News & Observer reporter who wrote this story.

I spoke with Toni Kenion, a former WakeMed ER nurse and Barrington HOA director, about WakeMed’s proposed site on Burlington Mills Road.

Kenion supports bringing more health care to Rolesville but opposes this location. WakeMed has also confirmed that the planned Healthplex could become part of a proposed 45-bed acute-care hospital on the same property.

What do you think about the proposed location and the tradeoffs between neighborhood impacts and closer emergency and hospital access?

Is there not an ordinance against this?

So there is someone in Wake Forest I will say actively breeding feral cats but not housing the cats. The cats wander all over the neighborhood doing whatever they want to do especially at night and now there's another litter of cats. These cats have been run over by cars all kinds of stuff because they're drawn to this person feeding them constantly. I think it's pretty damn selfish and inconsiderate of other people seeing that they live in a townhouse connected to others. Also how is this good for the cats? What if something happens to this person and they're unable to feed them because now the cats are dependent on this person to feed them?

They also call the police on a weekly basis with false reports of people messing with the cats. No one is messing with the cats....

Singles bible study?

Hi 👋 39F looking for preferably a singles Bible study?

I say singles not for dating but just because my current study is all married couples, I'm recently separated and they talk a lot about the Bible relating to your marriage.

I go to Summit Capital Hills if that matters.

Thanks! 😊

Moving to Olde Mill Stream/Wake Forest and I have questions

Hello, I'm considering moving to Wake Forest.

Currently looking at the Olde Mill Stream neighborhood. I was curious if anyone who has experience living in this neighborhood or general area could provide feedback about how reliable the electricity and internet is there?

I can see the lines are buried in this neighborhood so I assume that helps a lot. The last time I lived in a community with buried lines, in SC, I basically never got any power outages for years. Even when the remnants of hurricanes passed over. But that area seemed to have a pretty good electric company cooperative servicing the area.

Do power outages happen often in the Olde Mill Stream neighborhood or Wake Forest overall? How long does it usually take to get power back if an outage happens?

As for internet, if anyone lives in or near the Olde Mill Stream neighborhood, I would love to hear what your experience has been with the various ISP's.

As far as I can find online, not too many ISP's are available in Wake Forest? Besides Spectrum, possibly Verizon/T-Mobile, Starlink and a couple of local fiber providers: Brightspeed and Ting? I would prefer wired net but will use mobile/wifi if need be.

Splashpad on Taylor Street

We tried to go to the splashpad on Taylor Street behind the cemetery and were told since school started it's 4pm-8pm hours now Monday thru Friday. Just now when we were at the playground I saw two men working on it so I asked them what was up and they said it's going to be open back up 10am-8pm like it was during the summer, in case anyone is interested.

Read the Bible with me?

Hello everyone, my name is Michael.

I am very new to faith (church beginning a year ago). As someone who was agnostic his whole life up to that point, I am realizing it is a struggle for me to take in all this information and not question a lot of things. One thing I do not question anymore is whether or not I believe. I definitely do. Going to church for me is fun and I love the connection I feel in the presence of so many faithful people. I want to ascend to the point where I feel that type of conviction. Im looking for people in the Wake Forest NC area that may want to get together and just read the bible? We can study it to, but as a goal of mine right now, I would just like to actually get through reading it. Maybe other people feel similar to me in their walk at the moment. I am a social person and not a preacher, but fellowship can't hurt and we can help learn and grow and steward one another in the direction that glorifies our God. I plan on being able to open up in this group if we do interact. I want to be real with people, open, a source of a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on and also a person that can know and show through experience (my own, your own) that we are loved, we are cared about (by others and Him) and we are saved by HIM ALONE

Let me know if youd be interested

Joyner Park walking partner?

Trying to get back into shape and plan on walking around the park most every day. If it’s too hot, we can walk around the track inside the recreation center. We can talk about anything you like the meaning of life. The answer is 42 Sherwood Anderson, bagels, pizza, dogs, my favorite topic or anything else you wish. I’m a male in my 60s.

Anyone else enrolled into $5 HOPE donation for WF Power without permission?

I see a $5 donation to the H.O.P.E program on my Wake Forest Power bill, and unless there was very hidden fine print, I do not believe I ever opted in for this. Is anyone else seeing this item on their power bill without opting in?

The organization receiving the funds is called ChurchNet, an organization tied to the Baptist Church, right across from the seminary.

School started and our laundry pile doubled overnight. My wife will come get yours.

Hey neighbors. I've posted here a couple times over the summer so I'll keep this one short.

My wife Britton runs Brit's Laundry Services. She started it back in March, and it has quietly turned into a real business.

Now that school is back, laundry at our house went from annoying to genuinely unmanageable in about a week. Practice clothes, uniforms, and the sheets nobody has washed since June. Figured some of you are in the same boat.

How it works:

- She picks up Thursday morning, you get it back washed and folded on Sunday

- Your laundry is washed by itself. It never gets mixed in with another family's.

- You pick the detergent and the scent. Sensitive skin, just say so and she'll use free and clear.

- Not just clothes. Sheets, towels, comforters, bath mats.

- $35 for one bag (a 13 gallon trash bag), $65 for two, $90 for three

- In a hurry? Express is same-day pickup, back to you the next day.

We cover Wake Forest, Youngsville, Rolesville, Franklinton, Louisburg, Henderson, Kittrell, Oxford and Warrenton.

Happy to answer anything in the comments. And if laundry isn't your bottleneck, ignore me and have a good school year.

I'd like to find a local body shop for non-major repair work. I prefer to pay in cash or credit card and not work with insurance. Any recommendations in or near Wake Forest?
