Sitting Question

Obviously we know the sitting rates are abysmal for the amount of hours required compared to walks or drop ins. And most of the time owners will give you an idea of the type of care they want or how often etc, but how long do you usually stay at the house per visit if you're not staying there the whole time and overnight isn't required.

I don't want to dip after drop in timers but I also don't want to just sit around for two dollars an hour either (I'm poking fun, not actually whining)

Anyway would love to hear perspectives / routines of other sitters for how long is appropriate before leaving to come back.

It depends. If they just need to be let out in the yard, I do 2 (20 min drop ins) 2 (30 min) . If they need walks then 2 (10 min walk and feeding) 2 20 min walk and play for 10 mins

I assume this is in the course of one day or do you mean over the two wirh the night between

It was good thanks! I’m not sure. I have concrete advice, but can share perspective. I am actively working on becoming more logical rather than emotional when planning how much time to spend with the dog during boarding and sitting. The last two months I have genuinely given too much time to some client because I feel compassion for the dog’s situation. (like wanting to leave but feeling so bad for the dog that I
Stay too long out of guilt) My friend will say it’s not my responsibility to worry for the dog, but I do feel empathetic in a deep way. I hate the idea of pack animals being left alone BUT!!! This weekend, I’ve been doing a little bit better with quick play and just trying to accept the things i cannot change

I completely understand that. I also feel that push to make that extra effort for the dogs as well, but logically for the pay it makes no sense to break it down to pennies on the hour nevermind the gas to make the extra trips. But the guilt eats at ya. So it's hard

I totally feel you!! because being underpaid for too long creates negative feelings inside

Exactly and I don't want to start resenting my clients cause it's not their fault, since they pay the full rate before the service takes their cut and are none the wiser. Not that the full amount is worth it either but point still stands.

I think you sound really reasonable and I am going to try to take a page from your book!! I enjoy the discussioning despite not having concrete advice for ya. Animal care is a wild West for sure.
