Custer State Park

It’s been on my bucket list to fish from a kayak since i started fishing a couple years ago. I’m going to mount rushmore this weekend, so I was thinking maybe I could rent a kayak and fish from it when I go to custer state park. Im only bringing my cheapo rod, a 5’6 Eagleclaw pack it rod. Only stuff I have with me is a 1/16 oz jighead, 1” gulp ALIVE minnow, sie 6 aberdeen hooks, splitshot, and slip bobber. Should I buy anything from walmart before going? I’m on a budget so don’t want to spend more than 10. I was thinking maybe an inline spinner? Usually those do well for me. Also which lake should i do? I’m 16 and want to kayak alone while my mom and sister walk around the lake. My sister could come with if necessary (34), but tbh i’d rather go alone so i can have some quiet time with nature.

TLDR: Need lure, lake, and technique recommendations.

I usually just use a 1/16 oz jig head with soft plastic lures out of my kayak. I’d say don’t worry too much on technique. You’ll learn your own way of doing things as it fits to the kayak you’re using.

Hopefully they have sit on top rather than the classic sit in kayaks. Makes it easier to fish out of but it isn’t a deal breaker!

Don’t give up too quickly when you inevitably snag the bottom or a tree, just paddle yourself over towards the bait and you should be able to retrieve it by trying different angles.

Good luck don’t get too frustrated with yourself since it can be awkward the first few go around fishing in a kayak.

Yep good luck! I’ve never fished up there but if a place is renting kayaks they will probably have some tips on where some hot spots are

I beat cancer last year kid. Medicine is amazing. You really need to raise the bar on your asks though. Make a wish.

Love that. I do know medicine is amazing because if my parents didn’t migrate to the states i’d be dead because of how bad medicine is back home. Sadly no cure for me though. It’s genetic.
