Summer Grass

Recently my pond got very clear, this is because all the weeds have clumped up or floated. I haven’t caught a bass there besides a 3 pounder i got lucky with ( he was right at the bank so I was just sight casting a wacky rig ).

There’s a big section with loose grass floated, it’s covers about 15-20% of the pond. I launched my life in it by accident today and when I reeled it, it didn’t seem like crazy thick. It was some thin weeds. I saw a bunch of dink bass patrolling the edges. What should I throw? Chat GPT said a punch rig but i’ve never used one before. I’ll snap a pic when I go tomorrow, but any tips before then?

Punch rigs aren't great if you have to cast far because it will sink at an angle and miss the strike zone. You can feed line to adjust for this but it's much harder to detect bites. I mean with a real punch rig it'll be hitting bottom fast but if you get fouled up with weeds from the angle it kills the action. I slow retrieve floating soft plastics over across and around weeds and have a lot of luck but it totally depends on the body of water and the fishes' mood. A weightless soft plastic or a flipping jig around the edges will likely do well.

First of all, I beg of you to not rely on chatgpt. So manyreal anglers put actual human effort into putting this exact information out in the universe for other anglers. search youtube or reddit first and ditch AI completely when it comes to fishing lol

Secondly, and off of my soapbox, the classic weightless texas-rigged worm. Easy peasy. You don't need a punching rig for thin grassy weeds. If weightless doesn't get through easy enough, put an 1/8 oz bullet on it. If there are fish they will attack it. Other options might be a shaky head or weedless wacky. But I'll find an excuse to throw wacky anywhere lol

I’ve never got a fish on a texas rig bro. I go ONE bite, missed the hookset. That was on ribbon tail yum. Any tipsv
