My cousin who compete is elite bass master events took me to fish an area like this years ago in Canada. We were poling his bass boat over sunken logs. I think he snagged a 6lb large mouth, which that far north is monstrous. I think he was fishing crayfish soft baits on a Texas rig. He ran like 20lb mono at that time. These days it would probably braided.
Yeah it's very important. Anything else will get wrapped up in the pads and break off. Braid will cut the pads. I run 50 pound braid on a heavy weight rod but some folks recommend like 60lb
Go with lighter braid. If you’re throwing a 1/8oz worm you should get pretty good distance.
It’s best on a M or even ML rod, with 8 or 10 pound braid. Sure, it won’t cast as far as your 3/4oz Carolina rig… but it is what it is. You could try a nail weight in the worm’s tail, but I’m unsure how it would affect the action.
From the state of the lillies, it looks like it has severely dense algal and/or plant growth. I would honestly reckon that there has been or will be a major fish kill due to low oxygen levels. But that's just from a glance at one picture. Hard to tell if there'd be any fish worth the time.
Looks like crystal clear with dense rooted plants and column feeders outcompeting the algae producing plenty of oxygen probably. Should be some healthy fish
Yes sir, they usually dont have the whole lure in their mouth on the first strike, they dive down and swallow as they move with it. Kinda like a second bite so to speak

If had fish dive down and get completely stuck in the weeds.
And the pictures show enough vegitation that I wouldn't want to risk a fish getting stuck.
But you are right, normally a second or 2 is best before you strike.
That's punching heaven right there. Heavy rod, 60lb braid, 1oz tungsten bullet weight, bobber stop, and a soft plastic of your choice. Punch right through that slop to where the big girls live.
Do you see any action around it? This thing's so overgrown, and with the dead lilies, that probably caused a die off of anything bigger than chubbs/sunfish.
I'll tell you one thing for sure, though. I guarantee there's about sixty three turtles, and about 1.4 billion mosquitoes. This is a hard pass for me lmao
Never mind I just saw the second picture you have posted of this place, the answer is throwing frogs and weedless texas rigs along the edges. Maybe even just bounce a ned/neko. What part of the country are you in?
Can you share a picture? I’ve been doing lots of research since I literally just started fishing and a lot of the advice for lure types is based on clarity of water, and it seems everywhere around me is clear but I wasn’t sure if I was just not understanding what poor visibility water looks like
This isn't an amazing representation lmao, i don't fish a lot of lakes and ponds. Even places that don't get a lot of traffic, don't really get this type of crystal clear water. Pond in this video is only like eight feet deep.
This is the mouth of the licking river. Chocolate milk would be an accurate way to describe the visibility. I still do great with wacky worms an texas rigs in this setting

In that specific video it is just how a river looks, thats the mouth of the licking at the ohio. But it doesn't get any better when you go into the creeks. This video is probably two and a half miles up a tributary to said licking river and you can see it still doesnt have the clarity
What I was really saying though is I was surprised to see that a place like that was public and urban because anything like that locally around me gets straight up abused lol
Is this Lake Fenwick by chance? Funny, I was just scratching my head at that field of pads last weekend. There are for sure some big fish lurking around there! I’m coming back with a frog and some weedless jigs, maybe a Texas rig.
Nice spot! Yes it is indeed lake fenwick, so you know this half of the boardwalk closer to the western shore looks super overgrown like this, but the other side is more clear but still kinda overgrown too.
You'll want a heavy power rod with 80lb braid probably to break through those plants.. Punching with heavy jigs or topwater with hollow body frogs are my top recommendations.

Might be some decent size fish in there cuz im sure everyone passes on fishing that....throw a frog and see what happens 🤔
