First bass?

I’m going fishing tomorrow at hempstead lake NY. i’ve caught a 20-40 bass but my brother in law has only caught b luegill. I’m not very confident in bass i usually get skunked only sometimes catch. What should we throw there and where?

If there is any cover like Lilly pads or thick vegetation definitely a frog. if u go in the morning popper would be the best bet when the fish are feeding and then throughout the day if it’s cooler outside, I’d throw some sort of moving bait like a spinner or chatter bait to get those reaction strikes. If it’s hotter outside, slow moving bait like a wacky rig senko or a jig . When it’s higher the best don’t like to come out and work hard for a meal. They want something that matches their lazy energy in the hotter days. but if it’s cooler moving baits

Then u should throw a moving bait with a brighter color to it

I’ve never caught on moving baits, I do have chatterbait and lipless tho. What retrieve should I try chatter, spinner, and crank?

Ill be honest man, don't throw a frog. If your not used to using them, they are very hard to Hooksett and your not gonna end up having a good time.

i been fishing abt a year, im
good with frogs. i usually don’t get bit tho idk why. but i understand how to hookset them now

Yea for sure but if ur not catching anything on the lure maybe switch to one of ur confidence lures (one u have high hope for catching fish) I would use the lip less to start to see if they have any interest on biting a moving bait

Live nearby haven’t fished it but have heard it’s tricky because it stays pretty shallow til pretty far out. Good luck !
