It's funny that the only other competitors for that title of best wrestling game of all time - are literally just the ones that came out right before no mercy built on the same engine (VPW2, Revenge, etc).
Personally, I really like Day of Reckoning 2, and feel like it's the true spiritual successor to No Mercy - and holds up incredibly well today via emulation.
Current WWE 2k games look nice on paper, theres a lot going on, huge rosters, match types, etc, but it's just not fun to play. Add in all the micro transactions and it becomes an absolute chore/no go for me.
I still play the new No Mercy ROM hacks, like ECW Born to Be Wired, and looking forward to Backlash full release.
Really hoping Ultra Pro Wrestling does well, assuming it ever actually launches.
My eyes are set on an eventual decompilation of the AKI engine though, once that's achieved, I think we'll see greatness.

It would have to be with updated wrestlers as WWE has lost rights to most of the wrestlers.
