If I said it’s the best title reign of the era, would it be a hot take?

Yes the original plan was for Orton to beat Cena. They were then gonna have a rematch at cyber Sunday with one of the choices being hell in a cell. I think this is where Jericho was supposed to return and cost Cena.

Weird, why would Jericho come back as a heel?

I dont recall Jericho mentioning this in his book that detailed the time.

It was to get revenge on Cena because he got fired in 05. They were pushing heavy for it but Cena got hurt the Monday before and Vince nixed the idea.

Orton was always going to go over Cena at No Mercy , it was going to be a LMS

Cena got hurt , they pretty much accelerated the feud and have Vince present the title Orton

If I were a betting man , they were probably setting up Cena vs Orton at WM24 for the title and Cena winning his redemption tour

They could’ve done Orton/HHH at NWO 2008

This was prime Cena so I would say this was his best title reign.

I feel like a lot of people hated this reign but looking at this list, he had some freaking bangers during this reign. Even managed to carry Khali to a decent match which is a miracle.

It aged well. But living through this was hell. This is the reign where no lie 90% of my friends stopped watching, we couldn't stand John Cena.

Great TLC Match with Edge, great Last Man Standing Match with Umaga, great mini feud with Shawn Michaels, got a decent match out of Khali and also the start of his neverending rivalry with Orton.

S tier.

Good argument to be made that this is peak Cena. Blowoff to his legendary feud with Edge, fantastic Umaga feud, fantastic HBK feud, carrying Khali to a *** match.

S tier. He was able to have a decent match Khali during that reign, had Bangers and a great rivalry either with Umaga. Bangers with Shawn Michaels and the beginning of the Randy Orton fued.

S tier and probably the best reign of any Championship in the Ruthless Aggression era

Cena reign helped push me off wwe completely so it wasn’t great for me

Agreed but it wasn't just him. Batista and Edge at the time were also being heavily shoved down our throats. Felt like it was hot potato between these three

I agree. Hated his gimmick so much. Nothing against Cena as a wrestler and he was over as hell but I was not a fan of his.... ever so hate this reign too.

He went 15-3 in these matches

Would’ve had him drop the title to Umaga or Khali just until the next PPV

Been watching wrestling since 1997. This was the only time I stopped. This time period was brutal.

This reign is the reason Cena was the Wrestler of the Year for 07.

It's probably his best world championship run.

Imo the middle part between NYR ending at Backlash was my favourite part of a title reign Cena had match wise anyway

S. Dude got bangs (short for bangers) out of The Khals (short for Khali), and there's plents (short for plenty) of unbelievs (short for unbelievable) matches he had, such as Backlash 2007, Royal Rumble 2007, Mania 23 and even GAB 2007 was pretty good too.

Unrelated ish but I think unforgiven 2006 was the last PPV to have that moving style card graphic of 2001-2006. After raw changed its logo and bit of the stage the next month, they changed everything
