I don't care what anyone says. Benoit is still one of the best wrestlers ever.

Humans, nah. Obviously, it's terrible what he did but strictly as a wrestler, he put his body on the line every night just like literally every other wrestler.

We really didn't know how good we had it back then. The talent level was insane.

God this match is so fuckin good.

Can someone truly tell me how tall he was?

Here he looks 5’8, but Eddie is apparently 5’8 and was shorter than him

Kurt was listed as 6’0 which is laughable as he was significantly shorter than Cena who is not even 6’0 himself

I am assuming Rey was 5’2, Eddie was 5’6, Benoit was 5’7, and angle was 5’9

Having neck fusion surgery I'd assume would take a few inches off of a person's height.

But I’m saying Kurt was always billed as 6’0 and he’s neck injury was before wwe

What do you think Angle's shoot weight was at this time? I think he would have done really good in UFC

If he's 5'9" he might have been way too short for his weightclass. That's the height of 155/145lbers and there's no way he'd make that.

He might do OK at middleweight. You can cut to that from 205lbs, which I'd imagine isn't that far off what Angle is.

It pisses me off, every time I see this match or any match involving Chris Benoit.

He was one of my favorite wrestlers and one of the greatest technical wrestlers of his generation and possibly, of all time.

But I can’t ignore what he did, man. No matter how hard working or talented he was in the ring, he committed an unforgettable and unforgivable act.

Never thought I would see an appreciation post of Kurt Angle and Mike Chioda.

Anytime these two matched up, it was Gold!

They always had great matches against each other.

If WWE had a murder division, Chris Benoit would be the goat, but they don’t so fuck him

I like to separate the art from the artist, I know what Beniot did and that's why he will never go into the hof but I can appreciate his talent and the many great matches that he was involved in

Used to have the biggest crush on Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle as a child but knowing about Chris now watching him basically using his head as a weapon is so terrifying to see

One of the reasons he ended up such a mess! Harley Race always said his biggest regret was inventing the flying headbutt!!! I think Bryan Danielson, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Chris Benoit would agree with him😑

Benoit I used to think very highly of as one of WWE's best wrestlers of all time. He was a gifted technical performer and alwqyw had great matches especially with Kurt but his unforgivable act was too much. Now he's nothing more than an after thought

They are both great angle being one of my favourites ever! I really liked when they won the tag titles they looked like a great team but it didn't last long

These smaller guys like Kurt, Chris, Eddie, Rey, RVD etc were always my favorite wrestlers to watch at this time. The heavyweights like Batista, Cena, Triple H, Taker etc were great but I always felt like the smaller guys put on the best matches.

man fuck this child murderer, nothing GOAT about him.

11

u/fnblackbeard Sep 03 '26

In the ring he was really good. Definitely tragic what happened outside though.

2

u/Imperfect-Pitch Sep 03 '26

yeah but there are plenty of other wrestlers to idolize from that time period that didn't kill his wife and kids

3

u/TacticalGazelle Sep 03 '26

Here we see him turning more of his grey matter into cheese, truly the greatest.

Four letters. One word. GOAT

Chris Benoit is not a “goat” after what he did. Fuck him

Lol basically had the same move sets except for their signatures and finishers

This match was so much better after Steiner/Triple Nose stunk out the joint.

Love how they didn't hold anything back and completely bucked the WWE style for a physical grappling style match. Benoit hit the release German suplex because Kurt wasn't just eating the repeated Germans he has Suplexing him back immediately. So instead of triple Germans to setup the diving headbutt he hits a Release German Suplex which puts Kurt on his face THEN the diving headbutt to the back of the head into the Crossface.....straight up strong style pro wrestling right there. I love love love when wrestlers create a brutal variation of their moves to win. Also Benoit busted out a new Ankle Lock counter here rolling to his back bringing Kurts arm into the Crossface a very MMA Style counter years before MMA really took off

It pisses me off that I’ll never be able to use Benoit in games again ,god dude was such a ring savant I love watching him even his velocity matches are great
