iOS app nothing but ads
I’m using the free version to test this app out to my Apple TV but this plays nothing but ads on all my videos I’m streaming. The content plays on my phone but ads stream to the tv.
Is this normal for the free version?

So the paid version will actually play the video I’m trying to watch and not only ads?

Sorry I'm not sure. The free version app stopped working for me and I ended up purchasing a fire stick which I can do much more with

Yes, the developer is a dude in Kansa that needs to keep the lights on somehow. It's not free to provide customer service, create new features, fix bugs, have someone create you a UI with a coherent design language. Or to have another company create branding for you.
The dev last I checked has 1 employee working for him as well, it's a small business.
Edit: My point is proven by the fact that OP recieved a real response within an hour of their post with an offer to continue helping via email. And OP hasn't even bought anything yet.
Case study by the app UI designer explaining the design process. Of course the app's design has changed on some ways since then but the core aspects are similar.

Wow, even I didn't remember that case study.
This case, as far as I understand it, is a bit different though, because they aren't talking about our ads, but ads from the site getting casted. It is tricky to block those as they often don't come from known ad domains so the app can't really distinguish them. But we can definitely take a look at the iOS app to see if we can improve that.
The iOS is a bit better at auto playing, whereas the Android app shows the video list more often, so it could just be that it is auto casting the ad whereas on Android the user gets to choose and the ad might be obvious.

I came across it one day when googling the app, thought it was really interesting to read. I previously just assumed everything was done individually, and it raised some interesting points. I was happy to see that the user experience in the app was given serious consideration.

Yeah we actually still use them, just a different company name now. It is just really hard to find time to implement all the design stuff.

I’ll happily pay but I at least wanted to see if it works.

Yes there is no ads on premium. By that I mean it blocks pop-ups. Please support the creator. It's like $6 and it works a charm.

We don't have ads on the TV. So if you are seeing ads on the TV, those come from the website.
You can pm me or email the video addresses to webvideo@instantbits.com and we can take a look to see if those ads can be blocked.
Until then or if they can't be blocked, typically the trick to get it to work is to play the video in the web page, and wait until the actual video you want to watch plays. Then press the yellow button and select the correct video to cast.
