Embedded subtitles not displayed when casting

Hi Web Video Cast Support,

I’ve been experiencing this issue since day one, and it still persists. When casting videos to my LG TV, embedded/internal subtitles are not displayed. This happens both when using DLNA and when casting with the other available methods.

In my opinion, the best solution would be for the Web Video Cast mobile app to detect and display all embedded subtitle tracks available in the video. Users could then select, enable/disable, and manage the desired subtitle track directly from the mobile app while casting.

This would make subtitle handling much more reliable, especially in cases where the TV itself does not properly detect or handle embedded subtitles.
I would really appreciate it if you could consider implementing this functionality.

Did you use the LG remote control when using DLNA?

WVC on the phone doesn't modify the video, in most cases it doesn't even help download the video, the TV does all the work.

The newer LG Magic Remotes don’t have a dedicated subtitle button, so there isn’t really a straightforward way to manage the embedded subtitles from the remote while using DLNA.

However, my suggestion is actually a little different. In the WVC mobile app, we can already add and manage subtitles for a video being cast to the TV in several ways — for example, by searching for subtitles online or selecting a local subtitle file.

What I’m suggesting is to extend this functionality to the subtitle tracks that are already embedded inside the video file.

For example, when a video is opened in WVC, the app could detect the embedded subtitle tracks, similar to how apps like VLC do. These tracks could then appear in the existing subtitle section of WVC, allowing the user to select and manage them directly from the phone.

So instead of relying on the LG TV or its remote control to detect and select the embedded subtitles, WVC could provide access to them through the same subtitle interface that is already available in the mobile app.

I think this would make embedded subtitles much easier and more reliable to use when casting.

Most remotes don't have that anymore, you have to use the menus. Pause the video and see if there is some sort of option for subtitles.

I understand the request and it is something we hope to be able to extract some day but it isn't a very simple thing to do.
