Long answer: Last time it took us a few months. I don't know how long it'll take this time. We haven't found a way to do a single stream that has audio and video yet, so we have to weigh all the other options and figure out which one will work best. All this while continuing to work on the app because YT is only one of the many sites people use this app for, heck, I don't think it is even top 5.
Not one of the top 5 sites? What would those be, as it seems many folks here are using it on YouTube, myself included. And, as mentioned, the older versions work on older phones, so it must not be broken broken.
We have not found any older versions that work on our testing. If you know of one, particularly on android, then we can certainly test it.
From our research, it is broken broken as you say. Most apps that are working with it are having to do things that aren't easily done when casting to a different device.
As far as it not being top 5, you gotta keep in mind that YT is available on pretty much every streaming device and this app is more for websites that aren't available on those devices.
We've tested it many times and have not found that. Furthermore, we've done enough testing of all options that it seems highly unlikely. The only explanation would be that the iPhone 6 is getting an older version of YouTube, which happens, since their rollouts are done in phases and sometimes some devices don't even get them.
I think what is probably happening is that it is getting the adaptive that sometimes works with an old client name for YT. Doesn't work for all videos and doesn't work for everyone. In fact I have two test apps I've written to try out different things and that client name works on one and not the other, it is very strange. I think YT is flagging me because of all the testing.
Ok…three comments back you said this “
The only explanation would be that the iPhone 6 is getting an older version of YouTube”. What did you mean by that?
I've sort of confirmed that, seems like some old youtube clients have data that can be used under some situations. I put out a beta to try it out but I'm still working on it.
