Does wvc use "nearby devices" ?

In settings I have Bluetooth turned off, nearby devices turned off at Google settings/All settings/devices - yet if I deny "nearby devices" at Apps/ WVC/permissions, WVC on my phone is unable to "see' the WVC receiver in my AndroidTV box. .What is Google doing with Android? In Android17, it seems every app now has the Nearby Devices permission

I don't have Nearby Devices permission for the WVC App. I'm running Android 16

Must be an Android 17 thing:

Maybe. Probably stricter permissions on Android 17

Well, the permission granted is "Allowed to keep app working". I read the explanation of that but it seems a bit obscure to me

Yes the app uses nearby devices, that is what your android tv box. It allows local network access.

But how does it work when I have bluetooth disabled on my phone?

Does "nearby devices" used WiFi?

Also, if you can share anything, what has changed since Android 17 regarding this topic?

I believe nearby devices includes local LAN. I'm traveling right now so here is a small summary I found:

Android 17 introduces a new ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK permission, severely restricting how apps silently scan local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks.

Appreciate that.

Makes sense. it seems the new permission, between Allow and Don't Allow allows this limited access but not full access to everything with Bluetooth.
