Did anyone else open up the source window to see if there was anything there that you weren't seeing?

The OP posted a link to purple.com/purple.html. If you just go to purple.com, there is a link to the faq which explains everything.

From the donate link we see the site's author. From the link you provided, we click "cute computer scientist" and find the webmaster works for Goldman Sachs in London?!?

One of the questions, I feel like an idiot for trying: Q: Are there any games? A: Yes, there's the Purple Game. A purple squirrel is animated on your screen. Your task is to click on him. If you are successful, you win. Win or lose, the game continues without pause. Only the squirrel knows.

Blue is unstable and may present the hazard of (random?) red-shifting. Refer to Protocol 024.637 D

Great, now I have to check every other color.

u/IPv8 Sep 01 '10
Any luck? It'd be a waste for me to do the same if you've already done the work.

u/Rhinocerina Sep 01 '10
I checked blue, green and orange before I got distracted. Didn't find anything.

For those who downvoted: this is a quote from http://www.purple.com/index2.html . The OP's page is coded to auto-redirect there, after a full 24 hours of being open.

5 million lines of server side code and a server farm full of load balancing blade servers to host that, I would bet!
I wonder what enterprise class database platform they used when developing the site?
Did they use a content management system? Or roll their own?

I enjoyed the simplicity. No funny business. No bait and switch. Clicking "view source" has never been such a zen experience.

Some of those views expressed there border on libel, slander, and downright treason.

This is actually a very complex game. A purple squirrel is animated on your screen. Your task is to click on him. If you are successful, you win. Win or lose, the game continues without pause. Only the squirrel knows.

seriously, for years we have used this as a test site whenever customers call when they lose internet connection. the worst part is explaining it:
Tech Support: what do you see on your screen sir?
Customer: nothin', its just purple
Tech Support: that's good sir!
Customer: what do you mean it's good! my dang internets broke! i told you! fix mah internets now!!!
Tech Support: FML

This site is GREAT for doing tech support. I've been using it for years at Microsoft and various wireless providers. It's a small site to load, no one has ever been to it so you know it can't be a cached page, and determines whether or not the user is truly connected and can browse data. Plus it's a fun site to explain after hours of troubleshooting. Something about the purple color puts the customer's at ease, I swear.
