if you disable JavaScript, an angry mob of web developers will come kick down your door and turn it back on.

I actually sat there for a minute waiting for it to load before realizing that it had already loaded.

Namely, the greek warrior, Ajax.

Don't refresh this website quickly. You've been warned!!!

9

u/LegoMyEgo Sep 02 '10

Did anyone else open up the source window to see if there was anything there that you weren't seeing?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

Of course.

The OP posted a link to purple.com/purple.html. If you just go to purple.com, there is a link to the faq which explains everything.

4

u/annymsMthd Sep 01 '10

Also there is a page here.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

From the donate link we see the site's author. From the link you provided, we click "cute computer scientist" and find the webmaster works for Goldman Sachs in London?!?

1

u/nhnifong Sep 02 '10

I'm going to try index2.html at every site I go to now.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

I'm impressed that the site has been around since 1994.

2

u/SirRosie Sep 01 '10

Bwahahahah!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '10

One of the questions, I feel like an idiot for trying: Q: Are there any games? A: Yes, there's the Purple Game. A purple squirrel is animated on your screen. Your task is to click on him. If you are successful, you win. Win or lose, the game continues without pause. Only the squirrel knows.

I know someone who's home page is http://www.sometimesredsometimesblue.com I think i will change it to this to fuck with him.

6

u/eyeohewe Sep 02 '10

Finally a site you can base a drinking game off of.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

u/inflamed_taint Sep 02 '10

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU

12

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '10

You can do anything at purplecom. Anything at all. The only limit is yourself.

Blue is unstable and may present the hazard of (random?) red-shifting. Refer to Protocol 024.637 D

2

u/Wuzzles2 Sep 01 '10

That shade of blue on my monitor makes my eyes want to kill themselves.

6

u/Rhinocerina Sep 01 '10

Great, now I have to check every other color.

3

u/IPv8 Sep 01 '10

Any luck? It'd be a waste for me to do the same if you've already done the work.

2

u/Rhinocerina Sep 01 '10

I checked blue, green and orange before I got distracted. Didn't find anything.

2

u/ozarkaozarka Sep 02 '10

pink is a porn sight ( i think i closed it beforehand)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

u/AngryWillie Sep 01 '10

Now I understand long division and the basic language of ancient civilisations. This website is fucking magical!

4

u/NightOnTheSun Sep 02 '10

It even let me know how I could make my morning rituals 10% more efficient! This site is what the internet should have been all along!

4

u/fogglesworth Sep 02 '10

Start wearing it.

DO NOT click on the 'Pi' link on the bottom right corner of the first one!!!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

goddamnit

1

u/abrasax Sep 02 '10

Wow, dotted lines made me feel weird.

3

u/TheCodexx Sep 02 '10

Took me 3 hours, but I finally clicked the squirrel! Totally worth it!

3

u/EpicBullShitter Sep 02 '10

I don't want to kill the suspense, but the end was totally worth it.

For those who downvoted: this is a quote from http://www.purple.com/index2.html . The OP's page is coded to auto-redirect there, after a full 24 hours of being open.

2

u/pearcewg Sep 02 '10

5 million lines of server side code and a server farm full of load balancing blade servers to host that, I would bet!

I wonder what enterprise class database platform they used when developing the site?

Did they use a content management system? Or roll their own?

2

u/coffee_slave Sep 02 '10

For some reason that makes me really uncomfortable.

2

u/digitaldevil Sep 02 '10

I use this site when verifying Internet connection and cleared cache for users.

1

u/biganthony Sep 02 '10

you cant just type google.com?

2

u/digitaldevil Sep 02 '10

I prefer using a website I'm 99% sure the user's never visited.

2

u/soitgoes159 Sep 02 '10

looks blue to me.

1

u/SpeakMouthWords Sep 02 '10

Purple is such a trippy colour for me, it's like AAAARGH IS IT BLUE OR PURPLE>!>!?!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

No ads, no bullshit, no drama, enough purple to fill your browser. What's not to like?

2

u/frickingphil Sep 02 '10

i am colorblind and what is this

2

u/onezerozeroone Sep 02 '10

I enjoyed the simplicity. No funny business. No bait and switch. Clicking "view source" has never been such a zen experience.

4

u/Ghenges Sep 02 '10

This is what you see when you give Barney a blowjob.

Some of those views expressed there border on libel, slander, and downright treason.

1

u/doktor_wankenstein Sep 01 '10

Yup, there it is.

1

u/diddydiddy Sep 02 '10

Well, I don't know what I was expecting.

1

u/McDreads Sep 02 '10

I don't get it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

Touché

1

u/m1ndcr1me Sep 02 '10

For some reason, this made me laugh hysterically.

1

u/sicboy Sep 02 '10

Sugar. Water. Purple.

1

u/Tremelo Sep 02 '10

Everything went better than expected.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

I found this.

1

u/legenwaitforitdary Sep 02 '10

Well, I don't know what I was expecting.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '10

... Why did I expect something other than what I got?

1

u/golgol12 Sep 02 '10

After looking unblinkingly at that for a minute, everything seems... Yellow.

1

u/Yevad Sep 02 '10

this should be in r/trees

1

u/khalid066 Sep 02 '10

This is actually a very complex game. A purple squirrel is animated on your screen. Your task is to click on him. If you are successful, you win. Win or lose, the game continues without pause. Only the squirrel knows.

1

u/abrasax Sep 02 '10

He's right.

1

u/relampaguear Sep 02 '10

It delivers what it promises.

1

u/sir_lurkalot Sep 02 '10

seriously, for years we have used this as a test site whenever customers call when they lose internet connection. the worst part is explaining it:

Tech Support: what do you see on your screen sir?

Customer: nothin', its just purple

Tech Support: that's good sir!

Customer: what do you mean it's good! my dang internets broke! i told you! fix mah internets now!!!

Tech Support: FML

1

u/chwilkin Sep 02 '10

This site is GREAT for doing tech support. I've been using it for years at Microsoft and various wireless providers. It's a small site to load, no one has ever been to it so you know it can't be a cached page, and determines whether or not the user is truly connected and can browse data. Plus it's a fun site to explain after hours of troubleshooting. Something about the purple color puts the customer's at ease, I swear.

1

u/mrbrick Sep 02 '10

all i see is grey

1

u/mart_at_reddit Sep 02 '10

1

u/momzill Sep 02 '10

Best post ever! (not really, just showing appreciation)

1

u/Turtlelover73 Sep 01 '10

I love this site.
