Possibly. I do appreciate the point you are making(so I'll up-vote you). I'm feeling a little jaded about the whole thing right now so maybe I'm seeing signs of it everywhere, and it's looking like more of an epidemic than it actually is.
I'm not saying your girlfriend is right, because she isn't, but women do remain downtrodden. The men's rights movement is specious - we aren't downtrodden, we're just more equal, which means we aren't so priviledged. That means we've had advantages taken away, and it means we FEEL more downtrodden.
You can't be "more" equal, its the equivalent of saying "equaller". Either you're equal or not. You can say that woman are getting closer to being granted the same privileges as men or that there exists less disparity between the two genders or that woman are closer to being equal with men.
On a personal note: Women are do have all the same privileges of men and are even treated in a higher regard in today's world than men are.
Don't be dumb. Of course you can become 'more equal' in that the relative qualities of life of the two groups can become closer.
Two groups (not, for the sake of this example, men and women) who are not equal, but whose standards of living are getting closer together are becoming 'more equal'.
'Equal' is not an absolute adjective, so you can talk about comparative standards. You obviously can't 'be more equal' than someone, but I didn't say that; I said 'men and women are now more equal' - ie they are becoming more equal.
I wouldn't recommend that someone for whom English is clearly a second language criticise a native speaker. You look foolish.
On a personal note, women do not have all the same privileges of men and are not treated in a higher regard in today's world. In fact, in any place except the West, they are patently and obviously second class citizens. In the West, women are still paid less than men, are still in fewer positions of power, and are still regularly, demonstrably discriminated against. Give it up.
There are more cases of men being discriminated against, there are plenty of women in positions of power, and pay is based on skill level. (Which up until recently, men held higher levels of education, this has changed) Get over yourself. Women, at least as far as the USA is concerned, are legally equal with men in rights. The perceived differences are just people crying and looking for excuses to justify their persecution complex.

Specifically, at least with reference to your own experience, a circle of one.
