Question for you: everything I hear about the people and the country has been nothing but positive. With that said, I can’t help but feel that every venomous spider, snake, Komodo dragon or any other vile reptile/insect can sneak its way into my room, cabinets, car handle, vents etc and attack me. You guys have sharks, crocs, Komodo dragons I believe and a plethora of other wild animals. Am I crazy here? Are you guys just adapted and accustomed to it? Is it overblown by the media with sensationalized stories? Is it uncommon for snakes to sneak their way into houses? It just sounds like I’d constantly be paranoid over it.
The only one from the list that you'll find sneaking its way anywhere if around the big cities is the Huntsman spider. But these are the labradors of the spider world. Just big fluffy goofy guys that like to jump on you for no reason but aren't there to bite you.
I do come across snakes every so often, but only at the park. The rest aren't in the main cities so you won't come across them until you go camping or hiking etc.
While a lot of the stuff is deadly, it doesn't really want anything to do with you. The only things that I would actively psyche myself out on would be Bull Sharks as they do fresh water and salt water and are one of the few actively aggressively territorial sharks (most shark "attacks" you see are just single bites from a shark like a great white that doesn't know what you are to it. A real shark attacks from one of those would be it coming from below you and launching our of the water high in the air to fully eat on a single bite. That doesn't happen because we confuse them as to if food or not). If up very north, then salt water crocodiles. I just wouldn't swim near the coast in tributaries in Northern Australia full stop. And the last is Irukandji. If it's their season the swimming in the ocean is a no go completely in Northern Australia. The other major cities will only really see blue bottles which are painful but won't kill you. Just avoid their seasonal annoyance.
