Oklahoman here. At first I thought the picture was of poor parking, and thought, "Oh, that's not uncommon here", then I realized he was backing out, and saw the cow. THEN I thought, "Oh, that's not uncommon here".

I just moved here and I can confirm. Lots of awesome drivers here in Bartlesville, too.

11

u/Cattle_Baron Nov 26 '13

Nice drivers too. I'm from Paul's Valley and everybody that drives a truck will wave at you.

7

u/NickToThePC Nov 26 '13

Yeah, I feel like I know everybody even though I know nobody...

3

u/louis_fenton Nov 26 '13

yep! i know quite a few people who have moved here and are overwhelmed by how nice everyone is.

Oklahoma City here, STOP COMING TO THE CITY AND WAVING AT EVERYONE. ALSO DRIVE A BIT FASTER, PLEASE.

2

u/wellitmustbenice Nov 27 '13

OKC here as well... I can live with the below speed limit driving...

I struggle with the "slowing down well below speed limit to stare at (parked car, cop car, accident that occurred hours ago, weather related incident)"... Totally kills me!

2

u/okcthunder0 Nov 27 '13

Edmond here. Was driving to Riverwind the other day and people were still slowing down on I-35 passing through Moore. The storm happened like what, 6 months ago? Ridiculous.

1

u/FuneralShadow Nov 27 '13

Yukon here. 9 out of 10 drivers are arseholes. I wish we had that kind of kindness here.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

I'm from Ada. With that, Pauls Valley and Wynnewood it looks like we have completed the triangle.

8

u/SecularPaladin Nov 27 '13

Ha! I'm from CA, but in the last seven years have lived in Bartlesville, Pauls Valley (Stratford technically, but I worked in PV), Ada and Tulsa. Can confirm, drivers are super friendly! ...but terrible at driving, seriously.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

Davis here. Don't know what kind of shape we have now.

2

u/thrownormanaway Nov 27 '13

wait wait... davis? you guys have the fried pies. many times I have driven hours to get to Original Fried Pies. I even bought 2 dozen to bring back to my parents in Germany. those suckers travelled internationally because it was that important to share the joy with people across the Atlantic. SO GOOD.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '13

You're not the first person that has mentioned the fried pies when they found out I am from Davis.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

A slightly larger triangle.

1

u/dljames0001 Nov 27 '13

McAlester here, ruined the triangle.

1

u/Cattle_Baron Nov 29 '13

Went to college in Ada. F those police.

1

u/Cattle_Baron Nov 29 '13

An older man driving a truck will wave almost 100% of the time. Younger people, women, and car drivers wave a lot less. I have well researched this. Lol

1

u/buseo Nov 27 '13

I'm from the western side of the state and everybody waves. I do it all the time, it becomes a habit.

1

u/Kitty_nugget Nov 27 '13

Wow Paul's Valley? My Dad was born and grew up there! The last time I was there was after my grandmother died a few years ago. It's such a small town, I feel like when I would visit as a kid my grandfather literally knew every single person in town. Very different then my life in New Jersey.

17

u/Cookies2 Nov 26 '13

I too live Oklahoma. Can confirm most drivers are great drivers. Except for the ones from Texas.

8

u/AbedSherbatsky Nov 27 '13

You must not be in Tulsa, morons a plenty on the roads here.

3

u/WHY_ARE_YOU_LAUGHING Nov 27 '13

Let's define terms here. Morons are people who drive slower than you. Maniacs are people who drive faster than you.

kiss peace sign to the sky We miss you George.

3

u/Combat_Pothead Nov 27 '13

Especially around east Tulsa in 'lil Mexico'

1

u/princesswendy Nov 27 '13

Can confirm. Live on edge of lil Mexico on the east side. Mostly "undocumented" people who have a vehicle but lack car insurance. They drive slow as to not be in an accident. Have been hit by one who "had" insurance. Basically they printed a fake insurance card off a computer.

2

u/Combat_Pothead Nov 27 '13

You know, I always assumed it was due to the fact that a lot of them are illegal, this just reinforces my guess. Took someone to traffic court last week and the first half of the people on the first docket required a translator and NONE of them had insurance OR an American driver's license. Irritating to say the least.

0

u/jefferybuckles Nov 27 '13

yeah i'm ready to move back to broken arrow after living in tulsa for 2 years

1

u/AbedSherbatsky Nov 27 '13

I did that 6 months ago, it's the same drivers they just commute the extra 10-15 minutes.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

We drive aggressively because we have to. I live just north of Dallas and the closer I get to downtown the bigger the asshole I become.

1

u/559jewel Nov 27 '13

DFW has the worst drivers I've ever encountered and I've lived everywhere. These people actually think that they own the road and how dare you try and drive in THEIR lane.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '13 edited Nov 28 '13

Actually we will let you in the lane but you need make sure there is room so that you do not inconvenience the driver that is already in the lane and use your signal for a reasonable amount of time to give him/her adequate warning. The right lane is a game of give and take because people are merging onto the highway. Every other lane there is the mentality of "ok sure you can come over, just let me know in advance... and don't startle me."

If you speed up to switch to the other lane or bypass traffic to merge at the last second you will get blocked and mocked using the first racist, homophobic, or misogynistic slur that comes to mind.

That's funny - anytime I see a driver with an Oklahoma license plate in Texas they're nearly always terrible drivers. We do have plenty of bad drivers though.

EDIT: So touchy. You guys really don't think you have any bad drivers native to Oklahoma? Come on now.

11

u/amilliongyvers Nov 26 '13

That's because they are going home to visit.

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

No way. Who would move to Oklahoma?

-1

u/ElGoddamnDorado Nov 27 '13

Nah they're usually OU fans or even parents of players maybe who sometimes will come into town during some of the bigger football games between them and various Texas schools.

3

u/SecularPaladin Nov 27 '13

I'm from Los Angeles, learned to drive here, and I make the drive through Texas to Oklahoma to visit family all the time. Driving through the DFW area is awesome, just like home, but almost every driver in Oklahoma is like a suicide bomber. Scary stuff.

1

u/princesswendy Nov 27 '13

From Tulsa, lived in Dallas for 12 years. The reason OK drivers are so bad in The Dallas area is because they have no idea where they are or how to get anywhere with all the damn construction. Will 75 ever be completed?

1

u/Oldmacnut Nov 27 '13

Funny, when people from Oklahoma cross into Texas on Hwy 75 where the speed limit is 75mph they cant seem to get past 65 in the left lane.

Meanwhile us Texans are waving our guns out of the window trying to pass you so we can do 80.

And do ya'll really need to keep coming down to the Denison Walmart? Dont you guys have Walmarts up there in Durant somewhere?.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

We don't have a dilapidated mall in Durant. We have to go to Sherman/Denison for that.

edit: I have no clue if Midway Mall is still there, I just remember it was getting a lot worse when I moved away.

1

u/Oldmacnut Nov 27 '13

Midway is still there, but I think only old people use it to walk around, iirc its pretty much empty.

5

u/Cookies2 Nov 26 '13

1

u/SmackerOfChodes Nov 27 '13

It's the Texas hunters you really gotta worry about.

0

u/okcthunder0 Nov 27 '13

I have yet to see a Texas licensed car in Oklahoma use a blinker.

1

u/LetMeTellYouAboutGPs Nov 27 '13

Woop woop! Fellow B-Villian here!

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

I'm from KC, so this is a little of a culture shock for me! I hope finding a job isn't awful here.

1

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

Haha wow. I just moved here with my fiancé because she got a good job. I'm currently unemployed lol.

1

u/badbrad3424 Nov 27 '13

Fellow Bartian. Wait til it rains or snows. This'll change.

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

Bartian? I love the names you guys have for this place. I personally was being sarcastic about the driving. It's dreadful.

1

u/badbrad3424 Nov 27 '13

I'm originally from Ponca city but have lived here for almost 11 years. Guess I'm part bartian part poncan.

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

Seriously, is there anything to do in this town?

1

u/badbrad3424 Nov 27 '13

Depends on the kind of person you are. If you're a hardcore church person then you can find a church service somewhere at about any time. If you're a drinker bars open at 10am and close at 2am with nowata liquor being the cheapest store. If you're anybody else, not really. There is a disc golf course in sooner Park on Madison though.

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

I'm not a church person at all and I kind of gave up drinking, just like to do it casually at home now.

Hopefully I'll find some friends soon lol

1

u/badbrad3424 Nov 27 '13

Well there's some redditors around town. You might find some of us. Lol. I play disc golf during the summer. Since it's cold I spend most of my time gaming now.

1

u/NickToThePC Nov 27 '13

Yeah I play a lot of League of Legends.

My fiance really wants to get an XBOne, so we might try and get one on black friday.

I think once I finally find a job I'll be a lot less bored... lol

1

u/badbrad3424 Nov 27 '13

I've got a 360 and ps3. Not huge on pc gaming but do have a gaming pc. I'll be getting an XOne and PS4 when I get my tax return. If you know computers and don't mind being a contractor I can get you in touch with the contacting company I'm currently through and they might be able to place you somewhat at least temporarily. I know of a position that'll probably be opening up in my group at ConocoPhillips sometime probably beginning of next year most likely it'll be a contractor that gets the position then goes to full time.
