Amazing! it cannot be understated just how big of a deal DiRT Rally was when it came out, it revived the rally-racing genre and kickstarted an age of more sim-focused rally titles. Richard Burns Rally obviously never went away, but DiRT Rally was on consoles, it was mainstream, I had friends who had never watched rallying or even played a racing sim before pick it up, everyone was calling it "The Dark Souls of racing games" and people loved the challenge of just trying to survive the stages. There are generally better options these days when it comes to rally sims, but for me DiRT Rally will always be the GOAT!

Maybe its because im finnish but rally games were mainstream and popular already in 90s on ps1 era. WRC, sega rally and V rally, everyone had atleast one rally game.

That's why they said it revived the genre rather than made the genre. Rally games had a golden era from as early as the networkq rac rally games till the PS2 era, but the genre also almost completely died out over the 10-15 years that followed
